The Strongest Fox-Demon (54)

It was inevitable for some people who were close to the Chen family as well as those close to the younger generation of the family to know about Mrs. Chen’s affairs. Hence, with this incident alone the story that Chuji Teahouse could capture and exorcize ghosts spread within a certain range.

If there was a first, of course there would be a second and a third. After Chu Xiang finished her first transaction, a succession of customers came to ask help from the teahouse. There were demons, ghosts and evil spirits. With Chu Xiang and Li Yufeng joining hands, there was nothing they couldn’t solve. Their fame spread more widely, and their business has also become more and more prosperous. In no time, they gained a firm foothold in the capital.

Bai Yi and Bai You were blessed with excellent medical skills. After recovering from the illness, Mrs. Chen introduced them to her lady friends, who in turn introduced them to other acquaintances. They also gradually gained their own connections, setting up a circle of high-ranking officials and nobles. Their gains were considerable.

Bai Yi didn’t often go home now when she has free time. She preferred to go to the teahouse to meet Chu Xiang. She also felt that it was more interesting to go hunting and exorcizing ghosts with her.

One day, she was joking with Chu Xiang on the third floor and happened to see Zhuang Yulang and some students entering the teahouse. Bai Yi smiled and said, “Sister, does Brother Zhuang come here often? Those people seem to have a good relationship with him.”

Chu Xiang nodded. “He is a frequent customer and is fond of treating guests very much. Those people are naturally willing to accompany him.”

Bai Yi felt that something didn’t feel right. “Huh? Aren’t they together for the four forms of poetry?”

Chu Xiang looked at the notebook in her hand, raised her eyebrows, smiled and said, “The four forms of poetry? Yes, that is indeed the case when others gather together. Your Brother Zhuang… seems to be a lot weaker in this respect. If he didn’t have a lot of money, they would not necessarily be willing to accompany him.”

This surprised Bai Yi. All she had heard back in that town were praises of Zhuang Yulang, that he was heaven-sent genius, that becoming a provincial imperial exam passer was a height that many people would never reach in their lifetime.  She always thought that he was very powerful. How come he had to rely on treats to meet with other scholars?

She did not show herself and quietly hid to see how things unfolded on Zhuang Yulang’s side. Chu Xiang noticed her curiosity and asked, “What are you doing?”

Bai Yi pursed her lips and said under her breath, “I want to know what he looks like outside. I feel that…what I know about him is not all the real him. I want to know everything about him.”

“I see. I understand. Actually, I think you can turn into a little fox again when you have time and get close to him to see what he is like in private.” Chu Xiang smiled and didn’t feel that she was teaching her sister something bad.

Bai Yi was puzzled. She asked, “In private? When I was a little fox, he often told me that Bai Yi was very good, that his mother worked hard, and that he wanted to be the number one scholar and become an official to repay her mother, such things. Oh, yes, he also returned the money he found. He is very kind and sincere, and also like me very much, nothing else.”

Chu Xiang raised her head and regarded her. “Silly Sister, people’s hearts are ever changing. Since you have the ability, why not use it? Anyway, if he says he likes you in private, you can also enjoy it sweetly and happily. It’s not a bad thing.”

Bai Yi hesitated for a moment, and then was surprised to realize that she wavered. Since when did she not trust Zhuang Yulang to this extent? She didn’t realize it herself. This was not a good sign. She took a deep breath, nodded and said, “Sister, you are right. Instead of making wild guesses on my own, it’s better to know more about him.”

Zhuang Yulang really did not stand out at this poetry meeting as Chu Xiang claimed. And because an older noble young master joined the company this time and this young master didn’t have to flatter Zhuang Yulang, he didn’t care whether he was treated to the meal or not. Consequently, he mocked Zhuang Yulang’s poems for lack of inspiration in public and put him on the spot.

Bai Yi watched Zhuang Yulang’s face flush red and then leave in shame. She stood up angrily, “Who is that? Why is he so rude?”

Chu Xiang nodded in agreement. “He is indeed very rude. Even if the poem is really terrible, just point it out. Why bother ridiculing him? What are you going to do now?”

Bai Yi just wanted to teach that person a lesson, but after hearing Chu Xiang’s words, she thought about it and calmed down. “It’s a trivial matter to say that he is rude. What if I hit him hard and end up like Miss Jiang again? I can’t do that.”

Bai Yi shook her head, mulled over it for a while, and finally, when the young master got up to leave, she moved her finger to make his foot slip, and he slipped on the threshold!

The older young master’s servant quickly helped him up, and they left quickly. Bai Yi laughed and said, “Sister, did you see his face just now? It’s flushed red. Now he knows shame too.”

Chu Xiang said with a smile, “Okay, an eye for an eye. Go and see your Brother Zhuang.”

“All right. I bought a roast goose for home. He likes to eat this the most. Sister, I’m leaving then. You should be careful when you go out and do things. You must call me if you encounter a serious one, and I will help you.”

“I will, go ahead.”
