The Strongest Fox-Demon (98)

The maids fell silent and retreated outside the door one after the other. “Miss, it’s not that these servants refused to go… It’s really useless to go. If we are arrested outside, even if we manage to find a doctor, we won’t be able to bring him back, much less treat you. Besides, if we are mistaken for a rebel, the entire family will be implicated. We might even suffer the nine familial extermination. We really don’t dare. Please forgive us, Miss, and wait until tomorrow… Tomorrow, we will definitely find a doctor and bring him back.”

They didn’t dare to face Mrs. Jiang, so they quickly closed the door. No matter how much Mrs. Jiang yelled, they didn’t go in again. Mrs. Jiang has always been mean, so faced with such disobedient maids, she naturally let loose a torrent of abuse. Her livid voice made the maids breathe a sigh of relief. It was only superficial wounds, so it didn’t matter if treatment was a little late. They couldn’t afford to lose their lives over it.

Because of Mrs. Jiangs’ cursing, none of them dared to go in. Naturally no one used the medicine at home to treat her wounds. As a result, the wounds that initially had chances of healing left scars all over her face.

Zhuang Yulang was drinking in his room. He was so drunk that he didn’t come out no matter how loud the commotion was. He didn’t even know what happened between his wife and his mother. Ever since they found out at the temple fortune telling that he and Mrs. Jiang’s marriage was only mediocre, the two women have completely dispensed all sorts of courtesy, having a minor spat every three days and a big one every five. The Jiang family has also expressed their displeasure to him on several occasions.

Yet his fate had gone from being the prime minister to being so ordinary, so how could he be in the mood to deal with the Jiang family? Even if he were to accept reality, it would take time to adjust, right? He just didn’t expect something as big as a power grab to happen before he’d even adjusted. Prince Qi has fallen. What good fruit could the Jiang family enjoy? He has even less need to curry favor with them now, and he would be quite lucky if he could keep his head on his neck.

The scene of Bai Yi killing without hesitation kept flashing before his eyes, and the people she killed always turned into his face in his daze. This endlessly made him break out in cold sweat. He downed glass after glass of wine, expecting to be too intoxicated and faint. Then he no longer had the fear of Bai Yi coming to kill him.

He recalled what Bai Yi said before she left. She said she had saved him, so they were evened, and that they were back to their original places henceforth. He kept reminiscing, as if to ascertain that Bai Yi really wouldn’t hold grudges against him, and wouldn’t visit  him for revenge.

However, neither Chu Xiang nor Li Yufeng were soft-hearted people. They had dealt with countless officials in the past few months, and the families of those courtiers also suffered. Chu Xiang and Li Yufeng had never wavered. The two of them were extremely protective of the people under their wings. Bai Yi’s importance to them was of no equal, and so even if she didn’t care, could they possibly let him off the hook?

The more Zhuang Yulang thought about it, the more frightened he became, and soon he was scared out of his wits. However, Bai Yi hadn’t spared him a thought at all, apart from that glance she gave him on the battlefield.

Some people who were heartbroken would suffer for the rest of their lives, while others would cherish themselves. If there were no mutual feelings, they would stop themselves. Bai Yi, having followed Chu Xiang around, certainly did not learn to suffer for the rest of her life; all she learned was to let go of the past and completely cut off her love.

So at present, Bai Yi didn’t have the slightest thought about Zhuang Yulang, be it love or hate, nothing at all. The look she gave him was akin to catching sight of an ant on the ground, as unconcerned as seeing grass, trees, flowers and birds.

The favor between them has been repaid, and everything has been cut off.  Of course, it was true that they now had to mind their own business. Unfortunately, Zhuang Hualang didn’t know this, so he remained on edge.

This battle for power lasted for three days and three nights!

The cultivators who took part in the war were all those who could not tolerate other races. In terms of numbers, they were more than the full force of the demon race, but despite being distracted from protecting the people, the demons still won the battle in the end.

Li Yufeng personally beheaded the two Daoist masters who supported Prince Qi, and shattered their souls in front of all the cultivators who were arrested.

Their fellow martial brothers attained high cultivation, but they failed to follow the righteous path. Instead, they helped Prince Qi kill the Emperor for the sake of power and glory. They were the people Li Yufeng couldn’t tolerate the most. At the same time, he punished them as a warning to this group of practitioners and suppressed them. That way they would no longer dare to rebel against the imperial power nor rally a crowd to stir trouble.

Chu Xiang ordered all the demons to send away those cultivators and repair the terrain and buildings destroyed during the battle one at a time. Of course, the funds were paid by the cultivators. This time, they didn’t gain half as much as they hoped for. On the contrary, they suffered double losses. They could be regarded as ‘miserable’ beyond description.
