Sonia: Legends Of Eternal Darkness

Chapter 27 - Night of the Living Ginger (Ch. 2)

Back on Earth, the school day was done, and all of the children were heading home. Sonia, whom had just recently gotten home from school, sat by her window, slumping all over her couch in boredom. The ginger girl had her shoes plopped against the front door, her backpack laying on the couch, and her jacket sprawled over her back as one of her arms just hangs down from the couch with her finger gently grazing the carpet. Sonia's other arm, was holding up the invitation that Mellisa had given her earlier today, and she lazily stared at it for a good few minutes until her slightly-mangy black cat, Scruffles, strutted into the room.

"Heya Goy'lie," Scruffles greeted, "You's home from school already?" Sonia yawns as a response to her cat and tries to close her eyes and take to take a nap. The black cat however hopped onto her back and began to paw at the back of her neck and nuzzle some of her hair. However, Sonia just lazily m.o.a.n.e.d and waved the invitation at her cat. Scruffles started at the invitation being waved around and grabbed it with her paws, and proceeded to read it.

"Let's see here," Scruffles mumbled as she attempts to read the card, "You's have been cor-…core-gia-nally invited to Mellisa's Super Spectacular Spooky Halloween Party tonight from 8 PM to midnight. Don't forget to… don't… don't forget to put on your scariest costume for the costume contest! See you there!" Scruffles put down the card and began to comment, "Hey that's nice. You've been invited to a party there~." Sonia grumbled and rolled over and laid on her back, and responded by simply plopping a pillow onto her face. She also commented that Scruffles's ability to read was getting better, making the black cat playfully scoff at Sonia's comment.

"So, ya' gonna go to this party? By the sounds of this invitation here, it could be lots of fuuuunnnn~," Scruffles persuaded. However, Sonia slowly shook her head from the idea, so Scruffles tried to persuade the ginger more, "Oh come oooooonnnnnn. Pleeeeeeeaaaasssee?"

"Noooo."

"Pleeeeaasssee?"

"NOOOO."

"Pleeeeeeeaaaasssseee?"

"What are you? Mellisa?"

"Well I can't help it. That girl's cheeriness is infectious, goy'lie. But hey, why don't you wanna go to this party? Ya' ain't got a costume?" Sonia turned her head to the side and explained, "No, it's not that… it's just that I have… responsibilities now. What with fighting demons and monsters of course. I can't subject myself to stuff like Halloween anymore. Plus, at this time of the month, I'm afraid that they might be up to something fierce… especially since this month is where all of the VILEST creatures would come out…." Sonia covered her face into the pillow more and continued to contemplate and her current situation to Scruffles. The sound of a door is heard, and a familiar bark emanates through the house. Matthew, Sonia's loyal pet dog, had come home from a walk, led by her father, David, who was BUSHED from having to run miles with Matthew.

"PHEW!" David exhausted, "Matthew, you sure have a lot of energy for a dog your age." The father then tripped over and rubbed the dog's head before coming and greeting his teenage daughter.

"Heya there, butterbean," David greeted to Sonia, "How was school today?"

"It was okay. A little boring but…" Sonia started before making a little yawn, "…an alright day." David smiles then sees Scruffles with the invitation. He then takes it gently from Scruffles's grasp and proceeds to read it himself. David then commented, "Say, a Halloween party. And it's at Pumpkin Village. That's only five minutes away if you walk. Why not give it a go?"

"I dunno, dad… I mean I don't have a costume, and I'm so busy with schoolwork and-…"

"It sounds like somebody's a little embarrassed to gooooo~," David playfully teased.

"Daaadd…"

"Somebody's a little cheeky about gooooiiiiiinnnng~"

"Nyeeeehhhhhhhhh~" Sonia w.h.i.n.ed, until David began to tickle her, making the ginger laugh in surprise. Sonia laughed happily while also begging her dad to stop. David gently stopped then commented, "You should go to the party, Sonia. A little friendly gathering would do WONDERS for you. Especially with the school year effectively restarting and all, it would be nice to re-introduce yourself to your fellow classmates properly." David was right. Sonia's first introduction to her new classmates was pretty rough. A fresh start would absolutely do WONDERS as long as nothing particularly bad happened. Sonia gently sighed and reluctantly, but with hope, agreed and decided that she'd go to the party. David smiled then ruffled Sonia's hair some, then proceeded to head to his bathroom to take a shower and later on, take a nap. Sonia laid back while her pets casually relaxed next to her.

"See, goy'lie? Yer gonna have a great time~" Scruffles chuckled lightly.

"I agree, dear friend," Matthew replied, "A social gathering is a pleasuring opportunity for friendship and bonding among peers."

"Besides, with this new demon-hunting scheme we're forced into, this would be a fun opportunity to meet up with the class and… give 'em some spooks, if ya' know what I mean~." Scruffles added with a complimentary wink.

"Now Scruffles, regardless if it is a national holiday or not, we should not go around blowing our secret just as that," Matthew informed, giving Scruffles the look of a teacher.

"Oohhhh, what's a little risk?" Scruffles commented as she hopped off of the couch and began heading toward the kitchen, "It's just Halloween. Nothing bad ever happens on this holiday anyway."

However, as night began to fall in the Halloween-decorated town, things began to stir at the Haberdashery mansion of Pumpkin Village. From beyond the high-top with which the mansion stood tall, a large graveyard sat below. Within the desolate, spider-infested yard of buried corpses, a dark, fiery portal opened up from above and Maligra, the Skeleton Witch, and a cloaked being exited from the portal.

"Ugh… thou MUST come up with the idea of FASTER travel, REAPER..."

"Oh forgiiive meee…." The grim reaper commented, "Not ALL of us get be second hand of a demon lord you know. I once worked for the ALL-POWERFUL DRACULA, and we CONQUERED THE MIDDLE AGES!"

"And where did that get-est thou, bone-for-brains?" Maligra came back, making the grim reaper shake the scythe in his hand rather furiously. The Reaper then exhaled calmly, not wanting to stir up any angst against the skeleton witch. The Reaper then asked, "So what task does the master require us to uphold?"

"I be looking for a soul… a black-hearted soul… One of whom hast violently died hear a millennia ago and who had wished to exact revenge on the humans who murdered them…." The Reaper gave a devilish smile from such a request. His skull then formed a collection of black energy, and then walked forth in a straight path. He ordered the skeleton witch to follow, and she does so, floating by the Reaper's side as they search for the blackened soul.

In the meantime, Sonia was at her front door getting ready to head over to see the mansion. The ginger then called to her dad and waved goodbye, while also giving her pets some loving head scratches before heading off. When David, and her pets headed back inside, Scruffles quickly whispered to Matthew and called him to the closet.

"Scruffles?" Matthew whispered, "Dear friend, what are you doing?"

"Ooohh," Scruffles started while pulling down a cloth, "Just something I've been working on last month." Matthew looks in awe at Scruffles creation after she reveals it to him and says, "Byyy….. Geoorrge…."
