Soul Land: The Savage Star

Chapter 12: changed mindset

Dai Lin, thirty years old, former spirit king of the Star Luo Empire and promising youngster, part of the elites of the Dai family's young generation. He was very successful in life and was promised an elder seat of the White Tiger imperial clan. He had everything he could ask for but… He wanted Zhu Zhuyun, the princess of the clan for himself. ( big sis of Zhu Zhuqing )

As this fact was known, his position was demoted and was sent to undergo a trial to reflect on his behavior but, he still didn't give up. His pride, fostered by the endless amount of praise he received each day made him do the unforgivable. He challenged the prince of the family Dai Weisi to a deathmatch, which was equal to betraying the clan, a fact even more unforgivable since he was way older and stronger.

His cultivation was destroyed and was sent to the gigantic sword mountain market as a slave. He lost everything and his hate knew no bound. He wanted vengeance and the opportunity to be freed, which was technically the first step to it, presented itself after five long years of suffering.

Walking toward the scared kids with a nefarious expression, he caught the first trembling kid he saw by the collar and prepared himself to stab him, he aimed for the kill. Unfortunately for him, said kid was Beibei who was frozen in terror looking at his menacing expression.

It was unfortunate because the moment he was ready to stab, a powerful blow stroke his rib area, sending him flying to the wall. The blow, was a blazing fist, shining a white hue. It of course came from Feng, whose eyes were totally white with some kind of vapor, or white smoke coming from them.

He didn't want to harm anyone, but the fact that his brother was almost killed in front of him made him steel his mindset as he punched with everything he had. He didn't know why his fist was shining but he knew that he saved his brother. And that was more than enough to relieve him. This action was full of adrenaline and once his nerves loosened, he passed out.

All the other people present had wide eyes spectating the entire scene. The deep fear caused by the man's slow approach, coupled with his evil expression made all the children freeze in terror. Then, they saw one of their comrades grabbed and about to be stabbed, only to be saved by Feng, thanks to his weirdly shining fist, which sent the man flying.

The only one here who was joyful was obviously teacher Qian. This outcome was better than anything he dreamed of. He initially was slightly worried seeing that Beibei was the one targeted but this turned out to be the best course of action.

As previously stated, kids this young easily followed the lead of those before them. Seeing their comrade act would make it so that more of them would do so as well in the future. In his joy, he almost overlooked Feng's strength and shining fist. Almost.

' Great, this kid really is promising. But there is a problem. His trip to Ti Cang city made something change in him. It seems like it was a really bad idea to let him go there... What passed through the Dean's head to allow him to go there out of all places? He most likely learned some… truths… Hmmm… The question now is what he learned and what to do about it… '

...

With the sun rays hitting his face, Feng woke up the next day in his bed. Taking a few instants to remember what happened, his eyes widened as he looked around frantically but calmed down after seeing Beibei sleeping on the floor, next to his bed. ' Whew, he is alright… But this man… ' Shaking his head, Feng got up and placed Beibei on his bed before starting to cultivate.

He had a hard time though as the events kept replaying in his head nonstop. That and thoughts like what would have happened if he didn't react in time or what if the man was still able to harm Beibei didn't help him concentrate. He was happy he reacted and nothing happened but the fear that he almost lost his brother stayed and made him promise himself that just like he did before, he wouldn't hesitate if situations like this represented themselves.

Teacher Qian was thus successful in making him more ruthless, though, the path would be long before he became a pawn. ( Most probably too long for his remaining life expectancy to see it. ) Not long after, Beibei woke up and looked blankly at his brother.

He got up and hugged Feng while quietly shedding tears. This could be considered a traumatic event for him as he almost died while being the recipient of the man's nefarious gaze.

...…..

The lectures resumed and like the first six months, they were perfectly normal. One thing that had changed compared to before the second lesson though was the deep respect every classmate of Feng had for him. Other than that, another thing changed, but that was only the case for Feng.

Every week, he had to test his ability he demonstrated against the slave and had a special ' knowledge strengthening lessons ' for two hours in which he had to respond to questions pertaining to what he learned in the week and they could extend to three or four hours if he didn't have the correct answer. This should have slowly seeped ideas into Feng's mind by making him forcefully learn them but, his vision of spirit hall was too bad for this method to work.

This continued for the next six months and the final exam of the year was imminent. Feng became a rank 19 spirit master and Beibei became a rank 14 one. In the group battles, Feng's team never lost again as his powerup made him strong enough to beat every one of his opponents by himself.

The twins became seven years old not long before the exam, the 21st of May.

A sad thing though was that their mother still didn't come to see them and they still had no news from spirit hall.

As the exam was like the mid-year one, they would have no problems passing it but there was one thing that made this exam spacial. It was that another feature was added. A feature that they didn't know of yet. This time, Feng and Beibei were very eager to finish it the fastest way possible as they would be able to go back to Flying snow village.

Elder Luo, who Feng became slightly wary about and most importantly their nanny were the only people other than their mother who they could call family.
