“Huh!”

She had a nightmare. She thought it was a very unpleasant dream, but she couldn’t remember it. Suddenly, surprised by the unfamiliar color of the blanket, she looked around. Where was she? It was her first time seeing the space exposed in the moonlight pouring through the open window. She was so scared that she shrank her body.

‘Oh right’. She came to the Duke’s residence yesterday. She even remembered washing and the maids drying her hair. She was barely holding back the pouring sleep, but she must have passed out in the end.

When she came down the bed, she saw a neatly folded robe and a small kettle and cups. She was thirsty and reached out for a drink, but her hands were shaking. She pulled her hand to her chest and tried to clench it into a fist, but the trembling didn’t stop. It seemed to smell like blood mixed with iron. She shook her head to drive out the smell that couldn’t fly.

When Mi-hyang was a child, she saw the staged scenes vividly in front of her eyes, which she had only seen in action movies she enjoyed watching. The color of blood, which was easily glorified, was not at all beautiful. The dark red liquid that was sprayed while spitting out the warmth of life was soggy, wet, and unpleasant.

At that moment she didn’t do anything. She was trembling as she became a helpless burden that couldn’t even protect itself. Without her, Adrian would never have suffered such an injury.

To become a burden and be protected, hug the injured and cause trouble, and make them worry with a face exhausted from blood and sweat. Why didn’t she learn swordsmanship? Wasn’t there such a thing as common magic in this world? Fireworks just fly, and the spirits just call out, so why couldn’t she do that? To catch all the bad guys, to rescue Adrian, and great things like that heroines usually did. If she couldn’t do anything like that, why was she called there? Somebody made her to be Damian. If you call someone, you should let them do something for you. Why did that being forget to call her a supporting character? Was Eilene who disappeared practicing magic in the mountains? Uh? Okay?

‘Wow. I stopped shaking because I was pissed off.’

She threw back the blanket and stood up proudly, poured a full cup of water, and drank with one hand on her waist.

“Pua!”

As the cool water traveled down her esophagus, she stood up. Fluttering, she put on her gown, opened the window and went out onto the terrace. She wanted to shout something, but she held back because it was someone else’s house on a dark night, and she pushed her middle finger as hard as she could toward the night sky, where the bright moon was floating far away.

She didn’t know why she came to that world to become Damian, and she didn’t know what kind of existence made her that way.

‘If you’re watching, eat this.’

After swearing with my whole body toward the innocent moon and stars, she felt a little relieved, but the moonlight and the starlight were just shining regardless of her. What was she doing on someone else’s terrace where the cool night breeze blows? She put her butt on the terrace railing and sat up.

‘Come on, let’s think, Damian. It’s easier than learning a swordsmanship that doesn’t suit you now.’

The sudden change in Milton’s demeanor was after she asked for the books last year? And he talked like he knew Adrian. He wouldn’t have taken her in if he had known it was such a dangerous place. So Adrian was a one-sided grudge of someone he didn’t even know. What kind of resentment did Adrian, who had returned to the capital for only two seasons, could have raised against the top merchants who were active in the capital? No, there’s no way it’s just an upper class. Even taking into account that the items handled were warhead equipment for military supply, did it make sense that that much armed manpower was stationed in the office of the upper tier? She couldn’t see it well, but he looked past twenty. Knowing clearly that the other person was the commander of the Capital Army, there were also knights who came with him, but it would be more fun to think of him as a simple merchant who did such a reckless thing.

What else was the illegal weapon Homer said? If there’s even a secret passageway, he’s doing something really bad. The Marquis of Talus who had been dealing with such a guy. Was he saying the Marquis was not just an embezzlement scammer? Adrian robbed his colleague Talus, so it was a thorn in the eye. Wasn’t the nuance more like a personal resentment than that? It seemed that ‘him’ was talking about something, but was there someone behind the scenes targeting Adrian? No, that’s a problem, but illegal arms trafficking. Wasn’t this the biggest problem? Arms trafficking, what the hell was going on? Whose hands were the stolen weapons now?

Was someone really trying to start a war? What should she do? What could she do? Since she couldn’t fight, should she throw rocks?

‘Ha, that’s ridiculous.’

She almost died twice already. No, one of them really died. So what did she say? Where did she find something like this? Or what did she hope for? Did she wish to have supernatural powers? She lived while trying to adapt somehow and lived a good life. By the way, war?

This time, she raised his middle middle finger toward the sky.

Whether it’s God or fate or hell, she was a part-timer and she would protect her new position somehow. Her little daily life! She was going to live peacefully with her dad, brother, and Jenny, have fun, and get promoted!

The God of this world gave a signal that she couldn’t understand, and he should be laughing because it was funny to see her. She sighed and looked down at the terrace, there was the vast Duke’s garden. And a wide one too. It would take a long time from the front door to the house door, huh?

She saw what looked like a human shadow under a large tree directly across from where she was. As if the other person knew what they had been discovered, they walked out of the shadow of the tree and stood under the moonlight.

It’s Adrian.

Standing on the railing, she bent down and made eye contact with Adrian, who took a few more steps and looked up at her.

“Why did you come out there?”

“What is Adrian doing there? It’s the middle of the night.”

He looked up at her without answering and asked quietly.

“May I go up there?”

It was late at night, but it’s Adrian’s house anyway, and it’s ridiculous to be here at this time and arguing about manners. There were a lot of things she wanted to ask, and more than that, she was worried about whether his body was okay. More than anything, she wanted to say thank you for protecting her, and when she nodded, Adrian smiled. As always, his gentle and kind smile warms her heart.

“Could you please step back?”

When Adrian gestured, she took two steps back from the railing, although she was puzzled and didn’t understand at first. The next moment, four fingers appeared at the end of the terrace floor with a thud sound.

She watched with his chin drooping as Adrian, who landed like a picture in a seated position on the railing, gracefully stepped down the railing. He just smiled sweetly as if that was nothing.

“Ji, did you just jump up here? Wasn’t this on the second floor?”

“Excuse me for being in a hurry.”

No, she was not asking if that’s a shortcut. It was to see if it was possible for a person to rise to the second floor at once. Did he really fly up with the power of one hand? Wasn’t there a spring-loaded footrest under the mattress? Come to think of it, didn’t this guy fight at least 20 to 1 today? In a narrow space, didn’t the country burn out all of it by fighting while protecting the main base? She had a suspicion that Franz could be a surprisingly naive person who couldn’t lie.

“Are you going to become a professional jumper?”

“Pardon?”

“Oh, no.”

Adrian laughed for a while with a puzzled face, then went inside the open window and came out with a chair and a shawl. He put a chair behind her, sat her down, and covered her knees with the shawl. Then he stood in front of her.

“Sit down too, Adrian.”

At her words, he quickly went inside and came out with a chair to sit on. Sit facing each other with their knees about an inch apart.

As soon as he sat down he asked, his face full of worry.

“Are you okay, Damian? Are you hurt?”

“That’s what I have to say. Is your injury okay? Did you get all the treatment?”

“I’m fine.”

“A person was cut by a knife, but why doesn’t it matter? You shouldn’t just pick up a person and fly around while hurting like that. I was surprised.”

“Sorry.”

He apologized with an embarrassed face. When she sighed, he apologized again with a serious face.

“I’m sorry Damian. I made you go through something bad.”

Then the face blurs. His face, unable to even make eye contact, was full of sorrow.

She was fine. Of course, it was a little scary, no, a lot, but she was all shivering with Adrian’s clothes on. They fight sword to sword, and if there’s nothing to be sorry for, it was Adrian, who got injured.

Sitting with his back to the moon, his dark face seemed to be crying.

How could that big man look so pathetic? She reached out and touched Adrian’s cheek. Fortunately, there were no bites. But why did it always look like he’s crying? His eyes trembled as he stared at her in surprise, and his body looked stiff, but he didn’t even think about avoiding her hand and just stared at her.

“Are you crying, Adrian?”

“No. No, no.”

She looked at him and smiled. Thinking that it would be nice if he smiled too, Adrian smiled at her while making a very bewildered face as she wished. She lowered her hand from his face and took his right hand, which rested on his lap. His hand was the size of the lid of the pot, so even holding it with both hands was huge. She took his hand, leaned over and kissed the back of his hand.

“This hand saved me. Thank you, Adrian.”

Adrian, who had been staring at her with his eyes wide open for a while without moving, as if he were going to close his eyes, suddenly got up and sat down again when his hand was held by her. Then, he swiped the title several times with her left hand that she couldn’t hold. He was still restless for a long time, then he looked at her again with a face that couldn’t say anything.

He even reacted to kissing the back of his hand once.

“…”

“Sorry, sorry, don’t do that. I’m so grateful.”

She cut off because it seemed like he wanted to apologize again. His reaction was cute and funny, so she laughed. His mouth, which had been opened, was closed again, and his face instantly relaxed. A bright smile dotted the corners of his eyes so that it was impossible to see. weird. On a dark night, even though the face was hidden in the shadows, the light shone.

They laughed and exchanged a few more words of regards before parting. He didn’t deliberately pull something heavy. It was a tiring day for the two of them after all.

He said goodnight to her politely, then jumped down the terrace and disappeared.

He apologized to her, who screamed in surprise, and was about to jump up again, so she quickly waved her hand and told him to go.

Adrian, who had been waving for a long time from below with a pretty smile, stayed upstairs for a long time. In the end, he looked at her and she entered the terrace first.
