41 – Severe Heat (1)

After completing the canal work, Chester and Monia began to secluded themselves in earnest.

I only occasionally move to replenish food, but I spend most of my time at home.

Chester devoted himself to caring for the palm wound, while Monia spent her time practicing and receiving Chester’s teachings.

The biggest reason the two of them shut up like this was, of course, the heat.

As Chester had mentioned before, the terrible heat that befell the plains exposed to the sun came upon them even in the dense woods and shadows.

The start of a hot summer day.

The air was so hot that it was painful to sit still and breathe.

“I would have died if I went outside.”

“Yeah. It’s more than you think.”

Some plants died from the heat, and with the change of weather, animals that were too late to hide themselves also died.

Usually, in this heat, rivers can dry up, but fortunately, the floating island did not dry up because the island itself filters seawater for use.

This alone was fortunate for both of them.

If the water had dried up, or if it hadn’t, if the amount of water had decreased to the point where it wouldn’t go into the canal, the canal would have been useless.

“How are your hands?”

Early in the morning, Monia, who wanted to drink water, found Chester washing his wounds with running water from the canal and asked.

“yes. It’s pretty good.”

Fortunately, the wound didn’t add up and started to heal smoothly, and I reached the stage where the flesh came up and the skin healed.

If you’ve come this far, unless you do something rough enough to add to the wound, you’ll be completely cured if you leave it alone.

“That’s fortunate.”

After Chester had washed his hands, Monia drank from the bucket.

Now that water is readily available at home, Chester hasn’t recycled every bucket.

I didn’t know when the canal would be blocked, so I still left it for the purpose of collecting water in advance and carrying it with me when exploring the forest.

“Then, soon I will be able to climb a tree too!”

“If you learn well, that is.”

“What do you see me as? can you do it well? Now I can climb up and down the ladder to my heart’s content!”

“Oh, yes? How great?”

Chester grinned at the confident Monia’s words.

‘Climbing up with a ladder is completely different from climbing with your bare body.’

“Now, let’s go see my bow skills sooner than that! Today, I will get them all right!”

“okay okay.”

Chester took a plank of wood, drilled a hole through it, tied it to a rope, and hung it from a branch.

Next, take some charcoal and roughly mark the target on the board.

When that was over, Monia raised her bow with a motivated face and stood a little away from her target.

“Good! I’ll get everything right today, so wait and see!”

“yes. I’ll be watching.”

Chester, who saw Monia holding her bow and stance, thought of the Duke.

A duke who liked hunting and a bow, but was not good at it.

‘I don’t know what he’s doing right now.’

Chester was well aware of the Duke’s greed.

It was because he had eyes like a starving beast that had just woken up from hibernation.

He hid his true nature well under the guise of a duke, his unique charisma, and his excellent control, but Chester could see it.

It was the eyes he had seen as a child, the bear that ate the knight, that he would never forget.

‘Will he wait leisurely when he has an opportunity? no way.’

Perhaps, by now, we are at war with the country.

Chester thought so.

* * *

The horses shook the earth as they ran, and the shouts of the soldiers resonated in the sky.

The duke’s family was a family settled in the royal capital, but the duke deliberately moved to a villa for a while and prepared to hit the royal castle from the outskirts.

One reason.

If you don’t destroy it from the outskirts, you will never be able to defeat the Kingdom Army in the ‘Royal Capital’.

There was no way the Kingdom Army would use its hidden power until a meager force like the Revolutionary Army came forward, but the moment the duke staged a coup in the capital, they would use it without hesitation.

A secret passed on only to the royal and duke families.

Of course, the duke told all of the aristocrats closest to him who were the first to hold hands while planning this work.

Externally, with the pretext of ‘let’s all write a new founding myth together’, he captivated the eyes and ears of aristocrats who did not know the truth.

To be able to go into ‘making a nation’ again and follow their footsteps there.

So now, the duke’s army, which had started from the villa, was advancing rapidly and approaching the royal capital more than any other army.

The biggest reason is that as a result of the prince not risking his life in the beginning, the nobles who had lost trust in the royal family easily passed over to the duke.

The second is simple.

“Damn it… ! Is that the peacock who missed the prey 5 meters in front of him and laughed at him?!”

Duke was too strong.

Of course, one person’s military power, no matter how strong it is, has its limits.

Even the leader of the Royal Knights would die if he shot a few arrows from afar.

Here, the strong duke refers to the so-called knights led by the duke.

Regardless of the difference in status, the boys were selected and selected based only on whether they were talented or not.

The duke, who had a prosperous life before inheriting the duke’s family, brought young boys and trained them from then on, raising them as his own knights.

Although each has a different body, they were raised as a life called ‘Knights’, powered only by one brain called Duke.

At the same time, what was given to them was a battle horse that maximized its combative traits and physical abilities by breeding the best horses that had been selected and selected over a long period of time.

Their ancestor is also the horse that the duke rode during the War of Nations, and has faster feet and tenacious muscles than other horses, covering long distances to deliver information on the battlefield and saving allies in crisis over and over again, creating the ‘Bridge of Life’. It is also a miraculous parbal horse called .

It is armed with selected talents, selected horses, and the latest overseas techniques.

The duke took the dragon as their symbol, called them the Dragon Knights, and called his own knights made up of dragon knights the Sky Knights.

What they do is simple.

to stand at the forefront and pave the way.

Using overwhelming breakthrough power and stamina, throughout the war, penetrate the battlefield to defeat enemies and open the way for allies.

Where the enemy cannot penetrate the most.

A place that allies must penetrate.

It advances to the most unprotected and dangerous places and literally destroys them.

Even though the besieging side needs several times as many men as the defending side, one Knight of the Sky creates a power difference that ignores it.

The nobles, who became friends with the duke while hunting and knew of his ability to catch a rabbit, were astonished.

At first, the knights, who were wearing beautiful blue-silver armor, quickly became bloody with the blood of the enemy.

They weren’t slow enough to catch them even with cannon aiming, and even if they rained down arrows, they couldn’t pierce through what the hell they were wearing armor.

If you want to set up a strategy to catch them, the duke will notice in advance and use it against you, and if you face the knights in the same way, you will crush them head-on with overwhelming power.

Crush.

No one could stop the duke.

“Bur, you’ve already come this far?! Damn, what are all the other bastards doing!”

“Majesty.”

And, the knights of the duke, who did not know how to stop, approached the front of the fortress commanded by the prince.

“Ah ah ah ah ah… … !”

As Jordi trembled with fear, the royal knight, who received the king’s edict and became a soldier, an escort knight, and a teacher to teach tactics and strategy, raised his hand to his sword and said,

“Your Highness the Prince.”

“Hick!”

“Please don’t show ugliness. The moment the commander sees a pitiful figure seized with fear, morale, the heart of the army, is shattered.”

At that quiet one word, the prince frightened and nodded his head.

“Ah Okay. It’s my fault!”

“Your Highness the Prince.”

“It was my fault! do not reflect! I will do it right!”

“… … .”

Even when he first went to the battlefield, he had little sense of reality.

I thought I would punish him a little and soon be able to return to the safe castle.

But, now it was different.

The dream full of love that he dreamed of not too long ago had disappeared, and the reality of death and bloodshed was right in front of Jordi’s nose.

* * *

“ah! Missed again! Why do you keep missing?!”

“Your bow skills are like a peacock?”

“profit… ! It can’t be! That I resemble such a person!”

Chester looked at the arrows and targets that had flown off the wrong side and were either sticking or rolling around.

“Oh, but I just brushed here.”

“Yes? Really?”

“yes. look.”

Chester picked up a target and pointed it.

By the way, in the target Chester drew, there were three people Monia hated.

Tiara, Jordi, Peacock.

Unfortunately, I missed both the tiara and the peacock target, but luckily I was able to brush Jordi’s target.

“Wow! It’s real.”

Monia smiled brightly when she saw the arrow grazed Jordi’s right arm drawn on Jordi’s target.

“Okay, I’ll set you up again, so come here.”

“Yes!”

As Monia approached, Chester held her hands as if hugging her behind Monia, positioning her to shoot the bow.

So the two spent time practicing archery for a while.
