47 – Mud Baking (2)

It took a long time for the kiln made by applying mud to the stacked stone towers to dry.

When the pagoda was dry, Chester pulled out the stones on the bottom layer of the pagoda that had not been covered with mud.

Pulling out the stones, I saw an empty space inside the stone tower. This was the place to put firewood and make a fire.

The grass around the kiln had been cleared before the stone pagoda was built, so there was no problem even if a fire was lit.

On the bottom floor, where this fire was to be lit, a large and wide stone slab was placed.

After reinforcing the mud on the stone, the stone pagoda was piled up again to finish it, but there was also a stone in the middle of the kiln that had not been coated with mud.

Chester pulled out the stones. This will be the space where items made of clay will go in and be baked.

The stones that were pulled out were not removed and left next to the kiln. It will be used to trap the heat by blocking the kiln entrance when making a fire.

“Are you baking cakes now? Where do you get the ingredients?”

“It weighs more than that.”

“no! what!”

Chester pushed Monia’s face as she tried to protest and brought the weight she had made while the kiln was drying.

Why is the weight that I just made and started to bake lightly split? Chester guessed that the evaporation of water in the mud opened up the mud and caused the structure to collapse.

So, the next time I bake it, I decided to try it after it has dried to some extent.

What I brought now was the dry weight.

Not one.

It could fail anyway, so I made it again and again when the time came, and there were more than 10 weights made that way.

“Okay, here’s the first demonstration.”

Throw in the brought embers to make a fire, then put weights into the kiln.

Of course, I couldn’t burn all 10 of them, but up to 5 went in without a problem.

After putting the weights in, Chester also put the weights around the campfire.

“Uh, why are you there?”

“Experiment what happens when you bake dry clay over an open fire.”

After dividing it up and down, weights are inserted, and then the entrance of the kiln is blocked with stones.

“done.”

“By the way, how long should I bake this?”

“I don’t know either? I’m thinking of leaving the fire on all day.”

“Hey. Was it like that? Not enough firewood.”

“ha ha ha. I can’t believe the words coming out of your mouth.”

“What am I! If you use up all the firewood, you’ll have to cut wood again in this scorching heat! I hate that!”

“Ha ha ha ha ha!”

“Why are you laughing!”

To think that the daughter of a duke took it for granted that she worked hard, and that it was a waste to spend anything because of it.

I couldn’t help but laugh.

When Chester laughed at the world to leave, Monia, who was heartbroken, punched Chester, but even when she hit Chester with her dainty fists, Chester didn’t even tickle.

“Ahahahaha!”

Rather, the laughter grew louder.

“Lee Yii Ik!!”

Monia couldn’t hold back her anger at that, and unknowingly broke Chester’s shin with her foot.

“Aagh!”

“Five.”

“Aagh! Write! this! aww!! The shin!”

“Ohhhhh. The response is great.”

That was the first kick in Monia’s life.

“under! How is it! Don’t ignore me from now on!”

“You have to get scolded for this to come to your senses! Who has been feeding and sleeping until now!”

“Kyaaak! The person who didn’t even give me water to get his own food is talking a lot?! I still haven’t forgotten the grudge that left me on the first day!”

“If you will, get out of the house I made!”

“I made it too?! I gathered the ingredients together! I have my share too!”

“Not a single word… !”

“Whoops, I learned! Fight and win!!”

The daughter of a duke who was tainted by the harshness of the wild at the hands of the wandering island and Chester.

She blew away the elegance, aristocratic manners, tone, and etiquette that the duke had almost indoctrinated over the years, and spoke what a tyrant, a powerful man plotting a coup, or a savage would say.

After a fling with Monia, Chester decided to cook while watching the fire burn in the kiln.

Monia also prepared a meal right next to her because eating alone would not taste good.

“Let’s try this out today!”

Saying that, what Monia took out was an elongated scarlet fruit.

“Ah, that. Haven’t you eaten and thrown it away before? Although the color is different.”

“Huh, did you know that fruits left unattended while making strawberry dough become sweeter over time?”

“Uh, yes.”

“So I secretly left this one as well.”

Where did you leave it?

Chester hadn’t known it was at home until now.

“Then, wow! Surprisingly, the color changes over time?”

“I see.”

“When I checked today, everything turned red, so I brought it because I thought I could eat it now!”

‘Maybe it’s rotten.’

Chester watched Monia as she touched the fruit with a throbbing heart as she poured the brewed tea back into the water cup.

“where… .”

When Monia touches it lightly with a bamboo spoon, the fruit begins to split along the grain of the surface.

“Ohhhhh. It’s soft! I was stiff before!”

“It definitely makes a big difference.”

“huh! Even if you pay so much attention, I won’t give it to you!”

“No, not really… . You won’t die if you don’t eat.”

Chester didn’t have as much appetite as Monia.

Monia cut the fruit into chunks and scooped the softened flesh with a bamboo spoon and put it into her mouth.

“Yum.”

As she put it in her mouth and chewed the soft flesh, the fragrance and flavor of the flesh spread smoothly inside Monia.

“mmm!”

Sensing that, Monia rolled her legs and twisted her body while enjoying the flavor of the flesh.

“wow! delicious! Awesome!”

Wow like crazy! wow! Watching Monia exclaim, Chester remembered the moment she ate pork for the first time.

I think it was like that then too?

“Um! Whoops! Whoop whoop!”

Eating the fruit again, savoring the taste, nodding his head in satisfaction, then eating the fruit again, and this time twisting and twisting his whole body in admiration… … .

How long did such a violent reaction last?

Having eaten all the fruit, Monia lifted the fruit peel with a refreshing face.

“I loved this!”

“yes?”

“Yes! I definitely feel the rich flavor like butter from Arlongbach, Gasa, or cheese delivered to the royal family, but the cleanness and freshness are added, so it wasn’t burdensome on my tongue and I liked it!”

Just how expensive butter and cheese Monia is talking about here. Chester couldn’t even imagine.

‘It’s a kingdom that’s quite far away from Gasa or the kingdom, but have you ever eaten anything for the royal family there?’

No matter what Chester was thinking, Monia only continued to praise the fruit.

“like! Loved this! Let me personally name these berries the fruit of the Wandering Islands, with the flavors of Arronbach butter and Gasana royal purveyor cheese!”

Monia gave the fruit a name in the form of ‘a dish made through a certain recipe with something obtained from where and where meat was obtained’.

‘Why do nobles like to stretch everything out like that and speak like a long speech?’

“Just call it cheese butter.”

“Cheese butter? What are you dissatisfied with the name I gave you!”

“too long. It’s annoying to call.”

“… … .”

After thinking for a moment, Monia nodded her head saying that she understood.

“Well, that’s right. especially! Chester, I will name this fruit Cheese Butter made from your lack of naming sense!”

“Yes Yes. Thank you so much, yes.”

Chester drank the chowder stew that Monia made while devouring the berries in praise.

“Please put more thanks!”

‘I was excited to eat something delicious.’

It was the same when I ate pork.

Knowing that she would calm down quickly, Chester paid no attention to the excited Monia and just watched the condition of the palanquin while eating.

‘… … It’s dried and baked, so it doesn’t explode even if you bake it over direct fire.’

Of course, if you actually take it out, there will be some broken and cracked items, but at least they didn’t explode like they did when you baked them before.

‘It must have been a bit of bad luck that it exploded like that. There must have been a part of the mud that was filled with water, so it must have burst from there.’

Thanks to this, I realized that making mud is not just about pouring water and mixing soil, but meticulously mixing it well.

“Whoop whoop! I’m in a good mood today, so I’ll sing a special song for you.”

When she was an aristocratic young lady, whenever she heard that something was going on in the royal capital, Monia took the best seat and started singing the opera she loved.

Chester also hummed the song appropriately in the part where a man’s voice should come out because it was a song he often listened to while performing Monia.

The two of them enjoyed a small opera in the forest together for a while.

and the next day.

“Shall I open it?”

Chester reached out his hand towards the kiln, which had been sufficiently heated and had cooled down enough time.

When he carefully removed the stone blocking the kiln entrance, the heat still stagnant inside the kiln came out.

“Mmm.”

It doesn’t seem like it’s a good idea to take out what’s inside with your hands.

Chester took two thick wooden sticks, held them with both hands and used them like pincers to pull out a weight.

“Where, let’s see how well it went?”
