9 – rainy day(1)

Day 3 of the uninhabited island.

Chester, who wanted to move in earnest, went into the forest early in the morning with a slingshot, a stone knife, and a stone axe.

Go to the bamboo you found on the first day, and swing your stone ax toward the bamboo in front.

As he split the bamboo, Chester thought of the floating island.

‘I heard that the floating island is an extreme environment in which people cannot live.’

As a result of Chester experiencing the drifting island for three days, it did not seem to be such an extreme environment.

The bitter heat and cold were unbearable, but not unbearable, and it was easy to get food because nature was abundant.

‘In Monia’s case, it would be difficult for nobles to live.’

Chester tossed the knocked down bamboo some distance away and started to beat another bamboo.

‘Did rumors like that spread because it was originally an execution ground where only nobles were imprisoned?’

Rumors about the floating island vary.

Some say that it is a demonic land from which no one can come out, or that it is an island where legendary adventurers hide their treasures, or that it is the land where the gods lived before they left this world.

Of course Chester was wary of all sorts of rumors, but living on a floating island wasn’t as big of a problem as he thought.

Now that there is a water source from which water can be obtained stably and tools have been made, all that is needed is a stable supply of food.

‘Is this enough bamboo?’

Chester, who divided the fallen bamboo to make it easier to carry, tied them with vines and moved them.

When I returned home with the bamboo, I saw Monia practicing how to make tools by bumping against large stones.

It looks like Chester is trying out what he just woke up in the morning and taught me a little trick.

“Bird, it doesn’t break as well as I thought… … . I’m sure Chester broke it.”

Hearing Monia’s self-talk, Chester was slightly impressed.

‘Did that guy even know my name?’

Always there, hey, you, slave, dog, etc. Chester was startled.

Incidentally, the reason Monia knew Chester’s name was simply because Chester’s name was embroidered with silver thread on the inside of his butler’s uniform.

Not just Chester, but everyone who worked for the Duke’s family had their name embroidered somewhere on their clothes.

Recalling that, Monia found out Chester’s name by secretly examining the jacket he had taken off last night while he was sleeping under the leaves.

It was embarrassing to ask for his name directly.

Chester didn’t approach Monia, but quietly watched her do it.

“ah! ah! broken! It’s broken!”

Monia is happy that the stone is broken.

“Now on the other side… … Ouch!”

Monia cries in pain because she misplaced her finger.

“You cheeky stone! dare me! Who do you think you are!”

Monia throws stones and vents her anger.

“I will definitely succeed this time!”

Monia is motivated by taking out a new stone.

“Kyaaak?! How long have you been watching!”

And Monia, who is surprised to find Chester, throws away the stone she was practicing with.

‘It’s like watching monkeys develop civilization.’

It was pretty fun to watch.

“Shouldn’t we learn how to make a rope properly?”

“Whoa, what do you think of me? I already did that!”

Monia smiled confidently and took out the rope she had hidden in her dress and showed it to Chester.

‘Why did you hide it?’

Chester took the rope and examined it.

‘… … Not bad.’

Braided pretty nicely.

This was good enough, so Chester nodded and threw Monia’s braided rope into the bundle of ropes.

“What have you done to my rope! Did I do it?!”

“I’ll teach you the art of breaking stones tonight.”

“oh. Whoop whoop. great! You can learn that in one day! Even the valuable skills you have learned! experience too! Give it all up for me!”

The motive for Monia to move so hard and aggressively is revenge, which has a near 100% probability of being impossible to achieve in reality, but Chester thought it was not bad.

Having it is hundreds of times better than not having it.

“Are you making a bucket out of it?”

“yes. Even if you make it, it’s not like you’re doing anything special.”

Chester picked up one of the bamboos and began slashing with a stone knife some distance from the joint.

After a few cuts to make it weak by scraping off the part, the bamboo is cut with a stone knife.

After cutting a piece of bamboo like that, Chester showed it to Monia.

“Oh, is your stomach empty?”

Suddenly, Monia recalled the memory of drinking the water in the bamboo.

“Ah, so the water inside the bamboo.”

“right. And the words are blocked. So, if you cut it properly, it will become a water bottle.”

“It’s good!”

“right. In addition, you can easily make a bowl depending on how you cut it, and there are many things you can do.”

“Hey.”

Monia’s eyes sparkled in amazement whenever Chester cut bamboo nodes to make water containers.

“Besides, it’s light, so even you can handle it easily.”

Chester cut bamboo to make about 10 of them for water bottles, and then drilled two opposite holes in the water bottle openings.

Thread the rope through the hole and tie the rope through the hole to close.

It is a complete water bottle that can be carried comfortably.

“You do too.”

“Don’t order me!”

Monia shouted and grabbed a bamboo.

“But how do I drill a hole?”

Chester picked a twig of the appropriate thickness, cut the tip into a sharp point, and gave it to Monia.

Monia stabbed the bamboo with the twig and turned it to make a hole.

Chester attached ropes to all the buckets to make handles, then attached the handles to the ropes and lifted the buckets at once.

“Then the water is long and coming.”

“Please try for me!”

“Do your job.”

Chester walked through the woods more slowly than usual.

My hands are not free because I am holding a bucket full of water, so I move my feet more carefully than usual.

After quickly reaching the river, Chester dipped the entire bucket into the water and filled it up.

I had to tie all the buckets together with one rope to move them, so a lot of water flowed down as I lifted them up again, but even the outermost tilted bucket was half full.

‘It’s a bit heavy.’

Chester staggers through the woods because of the water bucket.

It was not easy as water poured out even if the body was slightly shaken.

‘Should I reduce the amount transferred at one time tomorrow?’

Still, the fact that both hands were filled with an ample amount of water made Chester’s heart quite reassuring.

Chester went back to the forest and walked through the forest without looking at the marks he had left on the trees when he first came to the island.

However, finding the house was not difficult.

As I always walked through the forest carefully, the detailed shapes of the forest were slowly becoming familiar to my eyes.

If so, it wasn’t difficult to find it on the usual route.

‘I can’t see any fruit that has fallen to the ground. Did the other animals eat it all?’

Chester felt a little sad.

Fruits that could be obtained without having to climb the trees were an excellent source of food.

It’s gone, so you’ll have to climb the tree to get the fruit in the future.

‘Monia ate all the fruits I collected at home.’

Is it because Monia doesn’t have the concept of ‘saving food’, or is it because she suffered from extreme hunger once on a deserted island?

As long as there was something edible, Monia would eat it all without leaving anything behind.

‘I’ll have to fix this too.’

Arriving home, Chester put the bucket on the floor and untied the rope.

“Wow! It is water!”

Monia, who lived on coconut juice all day yesterday, laughed at the splashing water and took one out and drank it.

“~ Big!”

After drinking the water in the bucket at once, Monia spit out exclamations of joy while shaking her body.

“If anyone sees it, they will think that the worker is having a drink after work.”

“I beg your pardon!”

“How is your ankle?”

“Stop talking and apologize for insulting me now!”

“Did you work while I was getting water?”

“… … .”

Monia avoided Chester’s gaze.

“hey.”

“Ha, I was going to! I was going to do it now! look!”

Although it was Monia who proudly pointed to the strands of shells piled up next to her.

“So, did you?”

I was sunk by Chester’s words.

“Don’t drink water until you’re done.”

“… … ! such an evil! this villain! You are trash!”

Ignoring Monia’s protests, Chester picked up a bucket and drank.

“… ……”

It’s really faint, but the scent of bamboo melted into the water.

“Not bad.”

Cooling off his thirst, Chester smiled at the full water in the bucket.

Keeping a good supply of water at home naturally enriches the mind.

“Didn’t your ankle get better soon?”

“You mean the ankle?”

When Chester asked, Monia laughed and stood up.

“Voila! It doesn’t hurt to stand up anymore! Whoops, it’s me too! How can such a terrible wound heal so quickly!”

“Just with a little sprained ankle.”

There won’t be any pain, but the ankle will still be stiff and it will be difficult to move.

Chester decided to let her rest until today, and take Monia to the forest tomorrow.

“Let’s rest until today, and tomorrow let’s go to the forest together.”

“!”

Chester’s words surprised Monia.

And with a nervous face, he swallowed his saliva.

“De, finally!”

“Then I’ll bring you food, so work on it, really.”

“Ah, I get it! Got it! I was going to! I was going to do it! Because it’s real?! If I had come a minute later, would you have seen me at work?!”

As Chester entered the woods with a slingshot, stone knife, and stone axe, Monia grumbled that she didn’t believe her and lifted a strand of shell.

“… … what?”

Then, suddenly, she looked at the sea and tilted her head.

“Is it raining?”

Gentle ripples in the sea water keep appearing and disappearing.
