Talking about the Past

About an hour had passed since Graziano had teleported back along with Francesca.

In a way, simply walking back on foot from there seemed like it’d actually take more time, but for him, it almost seemed too slow if anything.

“And Francesca?”

“I had her take a bath and change clothes, and right now she’s getting checked up with a doctor as well just in case………although it didn’t seem like she had any injuries whatsoever.”

“That’s good to hear.”

Aldini simply laughed almost shamelessly. But he had a feeling that somehow it was this man’s doing that Francesca had returned completely unhurt.

“………I suppose I should thank you. Thanks to your quick and precise instructions, we were able to find the young miss very efficiently.”

“Good good, you can show more of  your gratitude to me. And if and when you mess up in the future, I’ll be sure to deal with you in a [precise] manner as well.”

Graziano of course frowned hearing that, but Leonardo simply narrowed his eyes as water dripped down his hair.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of secrets Francesca may reveal to you, it’s no more than a trifling matter.”

“………?”

“After all, if you end up getting brainwashed by our enemy, I will instantly kill you.”

He spoke so casually and lightly, yet the words he spoke were anything but that.

“……..You..”

“I’ll be sure to erase even your very corpse to make sure that Francesca doesn’t feel too sad. I’ll even erase every little trace of the fact that I killed you as well………that’s why, don’t worry.”

He smiled at Graziano, as if he was talking to a close friend.

“And if you don’t want that to be your fate, just be sure to never make a mistake like that ever in your entire life. Simple right?”

“……..wow, thanks, I suppose……..”

This man really was not one he could ever let his guard down around.

Graziano glared at Aldini and then made his way quickly towards the lounge of the first floor. In that room, specifically designed to help guests relax, Francesca was currently going through a quick medical check up.

And as Graziano moved away from the entrance, Leonardo’s last few words failed to reach his ears.

“now then….”

Leonardo  Valentino Aldini turned around to look at the silver haired man that had also just arrived at the entrance as well.

“How about it Ricardo? ……….It’s time we go and secretly continue the request made by Marquis Savini, don’t you think?”

“…………..”

***

“………..thank god, you were alright missy…….”

“I’m so sorry, Francesca-chan…….!!”

The next day after the ambush, Francesca had gone out to visit the Ranieri family head Sofia to give her report, apologize, as well as give her thanks.

And right now Francesca was being hugged by the prostitute that had coincidentally shown up during the ambush.

Apparently she had fallen down many times as she ran back through the forest, and had injuries all over, and yet she was still mostly worried for Francesca first and foremost.

“I’m the one who should be apologizing! I’m so sorry for dragging you into something so dangerous.”

“Not only did you help me by  the riverside, and now this time again as well………but still, even though I fell down many times, I needed to tell everyone that you had fallen down the cliff and I’m glad I made it in time.”

“Indeed. Thanks to you quickly calling for help, Leonardo and everyone quickly found me and saved me. That’s why, please, don’t cry anymore.”

“uuuu………what a good girl you are…….!!”

“Now now, Isabella. Let go of the missy already. You need to get ready for the guests tonight as well, right?”

Sofia slightly admonished her, as the lady finally stood up still sniffling her nose. Even though she was much older than herself, Francesca thought she was quite the adorable lady.

“Bye now, Francesca-chan………please let me properly apologize again afterwards okay?”

“Like I said, don’t worry about it! But, I too will be happy to talk to you again!”

“fufu………thanks……”

As the door closed behind her, Sofia exhaled deeply.

“Forgive us Missy. We’ll send a formal apology letter to your family later as well……..after all, the responsibility lies on us for letting these scoundrels inside our forest and letting our carriage get hijacked.”

(uuu, I feel so guilty……! I got on that carriage knowing full well what was about to happen, but Sofia-san has no way of knowing that.)

Francesca could only shake her head to the side and smiled.

“Seriously, don’t worry about it! Leonardo and Graziano saved me very quickly so I’m perfectly fine already!”

“…………”

Sofia cast down her eyes, and then picked up the tea cup on the table before speaking again.

“Do you mind if I talk about the past a little? A story about how a beautiful prostitute fell in love with a certain noble, right here in this forest.”

“?”

Francesca was confused from the sudden topic of this story being brought up. But it took a moment for her to realize what Sofia was actually talking about.

“Of course, their love was one between two people of very different status. After all, the young man was the fourth child of a Marquis house, an honourable family of the highest pedigree. Her fellow prostitutes warned her to not get serious about him as well but, the man was genuinely very caring and kind to her, you see.”

(………ah.)

“Even though I was merely 13yrs old back then, I could tell that it was genuinely mutual love. The day it all went wrong was when due to a certain unfortunate incident, the 4th son suddenly became the next in line to be the heir to the family…….”

Sofia’s eyes gazed directly at Francesca, as she quietly spoke.

“That was also when it was found out that the prostitute had become pregnant with the man’s child.”

(……….she’s talking about Graziano’s…….)
