The Black Necromancer

114 An Extra Assurance

"What? How does Dark magic have anything to do with Space magic?" Leon was confused, and gears turned inside his head.

"This is merely a hypothesis, but according to what I know of Dark magic, it is a magic type that mainly revolves around changing the original form of a thing, or interfering in the normal form of something. Take for example, a blinding spell that is one of the basic applications of Dark magic. This spell achieves its goal by changing the state of a person's eyes, thereby making them blind.

"Curse spells originate from Dark magic in the first place, and they have similar effects. They interfere with the natural state of something. So, my thought is that by using Dark magic, you might be able to interfere with his spell. This is only just a hypothesis, and I am not sure if this will bring about any solid results." Joseph calmly explained his point to Leon, not in the least bothered by the raging spells around him. "Also, Gravity magic will surely have a good effect, so use those two in tandem."

Leon gave no thought and did as the man had suggested. Amidst the explosive fire mana, two other types bloomed around Leon. A deep purple of Gravity magic, and the pitch black of Dark magic. The two tangled together, mixing up their essences as the ground around Leon deformed and warped.

Raaa!

Dark tears appeared in the air around Leon, and his attention snapped in that direction. He had only barely been running the flow of those two magic types without utilizing them in any solid spells, but already, results had been shown.

As Leon directed the attention of the two mana types toward one of the larger tears, he suddenly felt a fluctuation flutter behind him, and he spun. Lightning crackled around him as Kaladin's web sprung into action, reaching into the crack that had appeared and tearing it open to reveal the dark haired man, Jet.

"Eat this!" Leon yelled and tossed a compressed fireball into the hole. The next moment, it exploded, engulfing Jet and Leon together.

[-780 Health Points]

Leon absently waved off the damage notification from the explosion and used a gust of wind to blow away the obscuring curtain of smoke. He glared at the sound of feet touching down on the ground a few meters away from him, and Jet stepping forward from the cloud of smoke.

"What kind of magic was that? It definitely was not Space magic." Jet looked intrigued, his earlier look of hostility gone from his face.

"Why do you want to know? I can not divulge my secrets to potential enemies." Leon remained standoffish.

"Alright, alright. That little collision was enough to show me that you are strong. I am willing to work together with you. Now, tell me what magic that was." Jet grinned and sheathed his swords on his back. He approached Leon with an outstretched hand as Leon pulled back his elite summons. Their jobs were done.

"If you say so." Leon shook Jet's hand with a reserved smile. "I am Lex, what about you?" He asked, maintaining his separate persona from the 'human' Leon that was known in Fort Bender.

"Jet." Jet replied with an impatient look on his face.

Leon laughed. "That was Gravity magic and Dark magic." He said, choosing to be open with that.

"You are actually telling me that? Are you not afraid that I will stab you in the back after making preparations?!" Jet was surprised. Everyone taking part in Divinity's Bout was usually secretive of their trump cards. Then a realization dawned on his mind. If Leon was exposing these, then did that not mean that these two powerful magic types were not even his trump cards? Jet gulped.

"Oh, I don't mind. It's not like I can't beat you if I decide to." Leon shrugged and turned around, looking in the direction of the magic circle that led to the dungeon. Now that the dungeon had been taken by Jet, the circle was slowly disappearing, no longer active.

A muscle twitched in Jet's jaw when Leon said those words so easily. "Excuse me?" He laughed. "I could totally beat you if this wasn't a spar." He did not take offense, thinking that this was part of Leon's attitude.

Leon simply shrugged. In truth, he was not just making a friend for the sake of it, but rather, he wanted a bit more assurance. He was a newly advanced B rank being, so he was still quite low in the grand scheme of things in this zone. If he ran into a hostile powerhouse, then chances of him escaping were low. The only ways he could mitigate this possibility was to make a strong friend that he would be able to count on.

He had thought of this as soon as he arrived in this zone, but who knew that Fate would point him in the right direction so quickly and allow him to meet Jet? It seemed like things wee swinging in his favor this time.

The two broke down into a small, lively discussion as they began to think of what to do next.

"Although we have gained a lot from dungeons, that it just so-so. We could do much more if we kept on looking for other treasures. Not only could we boost our strengths, but we could also become so rich that the generations after us will not need to worry about money in their lives!" Leon expressed his desires. He wanted more money, all in all.

Jet cast a dubious glance over at Leon. "Since when did undead care about money?" He wondered.

"Ahem! Well, I only spoke in regards to yourself, but I do not mind money myself." He quickly said. Internally, he berated himself for that slip up, but it was not like monsters did not like money. Dragons were gold hoarders, while Demons loved any form of riches.

Overall, though, Leon was satisfied with this extra assurance that he had secured for himself.
