While I have skills comparable to A-Class and have gone through many jobs my Stats grow quite slow I wondered about that but since Vandalieus Status became only extremely outrageous after his second growth period I didn´t mind it since I actually still looked like 14 years old I mean I know elves grow slower than other races but come on this is hilarious such thought run through my head while I spend my day with Neria.

Neria and I walked through Mirialak on one of our, dates, well it was actually more like free time which we used to go eat at a nice tea house.

Through I wonder if Neria isn´t considering this as an actual date. Her advances on me grew fiercer every day or so it feels to me

This morning she "sleepwalked into my bed" and yesterday while I used the bath she "accidentally" entered with only a towel around herself

"Hey Val your in thoughts again" Neria called out for me in a scolding tone. Apparently, I forgot to listen to her which she senses every time.

"Sorry I just thought about the news from the duchy capital" I didn´t lie to her thanks to my parallel thought procession skill I could handle multiple problems at one time.

"Yeah it´s really a thing to worry about after all Duke Zeke was an honorable man and even though we didn´t meet him I think I will miss him and his view on Vidas Races," Neria said a little sad

Duke Zeke Johan was an Alda believer but he accepted Vidas Races as human beings even if it brought him many antipathies in the noble ranks and under the Alda extremists.

But still, he allowed Vidas races to work in official posts within his duchy, allowed mixed marriages and stopped the illegal slave trade which was ignored until then. With him as duke, the peaceful faction of Alda's believers grew in strength and Mirialak became the factions bastion but now Duke Zeke died of old age.

"The death takes us all some too soon and some too late but he was definitely taken to soon," I said in honor of a man I only knew by name but we had bigger problems as of now

"But since the duke´s second son won the competition of succession things are getting back to before Duke Zeke took over the throne. Cyrus is an extremist under extremists he put new laws in order which directly take our rights as human beings to him we´re nothing but animals that live among humans." I said and I underrated it a little

The races of Vida were suspended from all official posts were thrown out of the army, knight´s orders and city guards in some towns they even weren´t allowed to be adventurers all they were allowed to do was to work as farmers to raise food but this wasn´t what concerned me the most

"It all went to fast" I murmured to myself

"Indeed but how was he able to enforce such laws within only 3 weeks and how did he even win the competition I thought Auron the dukes oldest son would clearly win," Neria asked me

As the duke didn´t name a successor before his death which was a tradition in the Johan duchy Auron and Cyrus started to gain influence among the nobles and other influential people in and outside the duchy and Auron had many projects which ensured an extremely comfortable live standard and helped the people to come out of the slums everyone already betted that Auron would succeed his father but from one day to another all his ambitious project failed.

The cultivation villages got attacked by either bandits or monsters.

The building of better streets got interrupted through different means each one time the workers quite another no material was there and the funds slowly decreased as the investors withdrew

And many other odd things happened many suspected Cyrus did all these things but nothing could be proven and he declared everything as the will of Alda and the church supported this statement

But I had my own theory which clearly broke out among the many theories that existed out there

"I believe a vampire is behind this," I said to Neria who widened her eyes

"How do you come to this conclusion?" she asked and I began to explain

Firstly, the sudden bad luck that hit Auron. One village might be an accident but so many at one time are far too much it might be possible for a criminal organization but they have their own territories and I doubt they would allow others to do their work in their home

You could say someone bought all of them but that doesn´t explain the monster attacks some survivors reported undead attacks and it´s widely known that undead can´t be tamed so how did they coordinate so good?

Someone created them and ordered them to do so but who could create undead in this number and strength? Only a vampire could do so

Secondly, the sudden stop of infrastructure projects. No one would have nearly enough influence to stop such projects alone but even if all supporters of Cyrus concentrated on this I doubt that they would have succeeded as it happened because so many people were involved in this. It might also have been difficult for a vampire but if his influence was build over a century I thought it might be possible.

And last but not least ever since Cyrus is on the throne the projects continued as if nothing happened they actually proceeded even faster than before I personally don´t think that this is the work of Alda or any other god on his side but a play made by a powerful vampire.

As I finished explaining my conclusion to her Neria look like she didn´t get any of it but if she got the majority of my thoughts I would be actually happy

"So if everything that you just said is true then why would the vampire help people that want to kill his kind?" Neria questioned me but I already knew an answer

Think about it the vampire only needs to manipulate his pawns a little bit and so he evades every chance to get detected" I explained and so Neria and I decided to investigate a little bit while she heard around the guild for any suspicious activities of Alda's believers I went to meet an old friend of mine or so you could call him.

As he had ties with the slave traders which sold female slaves I went to the red-light district, Thanks to the goddess I didn´t tell Neria where I headed, it was already night and I wore a coat in combination with a mask.

I entered the brothel in which my contact man was supposed to be and bingo he was there

"Hello Caleb" I greeted him but he only looked with shook at me

"What do you want I didn´t came near your girlfriend I swear by everything I love" he hastily said

"No I didn´t came because of this I need your help," I said to him and sat in front of him

For a short explanation of why he fears me while Neria and I were still new adventurers, he tried to kidnap her and I punished him for that a little bit.

"Hey, how have you been?" I asked him but he looked at me as if he doubts if I was serious

"Are you f.u.c.k.i.n.g serious dude?! You broke every dammit bone in my body I couldn´t move for 5 months and I´m sure my great-grandchildren will still scream in pain" he complained

"So you learned your lesson," I said a little bit proud of myself after all I changed a person wait of life

"Screw this shit and spit out what you want," Caleb said clearly nerved

"I investigate in something and might need your contact to the criminal organization of Mirialak so could you help me I will even reward you," I said clapping my hands together before me

"Quite expensive but ok in the name of Vida, I Valkorion son of Dalion and Alleana promise you, Caleb, that I will reward you with a Fire-Rubin" I vowed to him "Happy now"

"Thank you put me at ease man and I didn´t even need to say anything" Caleb teared up a little or so I thought but didn´t dig after it any further as he stood up and lead me to my destination the Headquarters of the local criminal network
