Chapter 10: Complaints

Xia Xi was in a daze as she looked at the boy in white not far away, thinking about how to talk to him. She had obviously given the ticket for the seat next to her yesterday, why had he wasted money and bought another one instead?
Xia Xi didn’t understand Ji Huai at all. And she hadn’t since the first day they had gone to school together and he hadn’t chosen to sit at the same table.

Suddenly, a girl’s scream reached her ears and pulled her out of her thoughts. Xia Xi curiously looked around and noticed Xia Yuan who was naturally coming towards her, as the girls around shouted and wondered why he was in the audience. Xia Xi felt the shadow of the kiss from earlier and her cheeks flushed again. It seemed like her brother liked her!
Xia Yuan stopped in front of her and took her hand. Among the screams, his voice was clear: “It’s getting late, it’s time to go home.”
The girls around threw daggers with their eyes at Xia Xi but she was long accustomed to it. Who had made her brother so attractive?
She nodded and remembered something: “The results are not out yet, go accept the prize while I wait for you here.”
“No need, you can come with me and stand next to me.” Xia Yuan refused.
Listening to his domineering tone, Xia Xi’s heart pounded and she instinctively agreed. She took her things and followed her brother, as the girls surrounding them kept shouting, not knowing they were siblings.

“It looks like Xia Yuan’s feelings for the white lotus are really superb.” Xu Yinuan muttered as she looked at Xia Xi’s back. Anyone with discerning eyes could see the ambiguity between the two.
Xia Yao glanced at her two siblings and raised her eyebrows.
“Xu Yinuan, let me ask you something.”
“Ah?” Xu Yinuan was startled, “What’s wrong?”
“Do you like Xia Yuan?” Xia Yao asked bluntly.
Xu Yinuan was stunned and speechless for a long time. In fact, she was also a little bit confused about whether she liked him or not. She should say she did as she had skipped classes to take a peek at him since the start of high school. But she also should say she didn’t because she just wanted to chase after any handsome guy she met.
Seeing how confused Xu Yinuan seemed to be, Xia Yao snickered: “I understand.”
“Ah? What do you understand?” She herself hadn’t yet.
“You just like his face!” She joked but felt relieved in her heart. In this stupid campus love novel, Xu Xinuan’s character was the one of a love-struck fool but after spending a whole year with her, Xia Yao had a better understanding of her. She was a free and easy-going person who would let things go as long as she knew it couldn’t be hers. Fortunately, she didn’t necessarily like Xia Yuan that much.
“Wow, you’re talking nonsense!” Xu Yinuan rushed forward, “Look at me hit you with my small fist!”

Xia Yuan was already standing on the stage at this time and was giving his acceptance speech. He read words of thanks and his clear voice echoed in every corner of the theater through the microphone. According to his speed and the length of the speech, he should be done in three minutes.
When he read the last sentence and announced it was over, the host unexpectedly spoke. She was a lovely woman wearing a white evening dress and her hair was tied in a bun on top of her head: “Contestant Xia Yuan, we all know you played your own creation and the audience is very curious, why did you name it ‘Keep this time’?”
“It doesn’t make much sense.” Xia Yuan replied lightly.
“But everybody really wants to know. This melody sounds like a love song, was it written for your first love?” The host insisted.
The contestants this time were all high school and college students from City T and Xia Yuan’s name was very well-known among them. The whole audience looked toward the stage together, ready to gossip.
“No comment.” Xia Yuan frowned. The relationship between him and Xia Xi was different from ordinary people, it was not the time to announce it.
But yes, this song had been written for her. Perhaps he had liked her at first sight, he had never seen a girl as pure and beautiful as her. She had been wearing a dirty dress and dust had been on her face but it hadn’t concealed her cuteness and innocent heart in the slightest, just like a small daisy in the sunlight.

Xia Yao looked at the people on the stage. Others might not know, but she had read the novel and was very clear about Xia Yuan’s feelings for the heroine. Her lowered wisdom character had walked step by step to her doom, only to end up pushing the heroine into traffic and being expelled from her family by Xia Yuan.
[System, no matter what I do, I am going to be kicked out by Xia Yuan in the end, aren’t I?]
[Yes, host.]
[If I am the biological daughter related by blood and yet get kicked out like a dog. Why don’t my parents care?]
[Host, because your parents are abroad, Xia Yuan was able to keep the news and your parents didn’t know about it.]
[This logic makes no sense.] The technology in the world was so advanced, how could a stupid artist cut off all communication?
[Your parents will not appear until after your death.]
[… Alright. Then, can I leave the Xia family by myself?]
[This is not infeasible.]
Xia Yao looked at the brother who was so fond of Xia Xi once more and started figuring a way to leave this disgusting home.

Friday afternoon was PE class. The wind of fall was blowing but the sky was clear and no clouds were visible. The playground was crowded with many students, the equipment room was filled with the smell of plastic and rubber, and Xia Yao went to get the volleyballs alone.
Boys and girls were separated during PE at Williston Noble High School but because this way the number of students would be reduced by half, two classes were required to attend together and unfortunately, Class A and Class F were a pair this year.

Xia Yao walked to the equipment room while flexing her muscles and met with Xu Shizhou who was also here to get balls.
She glanced at him casually, he was wearing a black shirt with the hem lifted up, revealing abdominal muscles and scars he had gotten from fighting. He really wasn’t easy to mess with at first sight.
“What a coincidence.” She spoke lightly and walked towards the basket of volleyballs.
She thought that Xu Shizhou had finally realized the importance of learning in their third year of high school, which was why he had come to class every day and asked her to explain exercises lately.
She had been getting along rather well with him recently. At least, she believed that when Xu Shizhou would fall madly in love with the heroine and she would be forced to make trouble, he might consider all the help she had given him with his lessons and be merciful.

“Huh?” Xu Shizhou looked at her. After so many days of talking together, the girl he had believed only aloof and studying all day long was actually a fierce girl who beat scumbags, and he thought she looked pretty cool as she fought.
“Let me help you!” Xu Shizhou looked at the basket of thirty or forty volleyballs and walked towards her. He really couldn’t figure out why the teacher had asked her to carry such a big basket by herself.
Xia Yao raised her head and replied: “Thank you, but no need.”
Xu Shizhou was taken aback and he saw the girl lift the basket with one hand effortlessly, before leaving the room casually.
He looked at her back and shook his head. He picked up the basketballs and blue veins appeared on his hands: so heavy!

[Please, show up on the basketball court before 15:22 and be sure to complete the plot of “The sweetheart of the three big bosses”. The host must hit the heroine with a volleyball.]
Listening to it, the basket in her hand almost slipped. Wasn’t the system’s requirement a bit too much today?
[You talk a lot.]
[Host, because you walk on the edge of the plot every time and speak too little, you have no sense of existence. Complaints were made against you.]
[Oh. Who complained?]
[The host doesn’t have the right to know. But once the plot fails, your self-awareness will immediately be obliterated and your original character’s setting will be restored.]
She once again could only oblige.

Xia Yao returned to the playground with her basket. Since it wasn’t their first volleyball practice, the girls had already learned to play and this lesson was free practice, while the teacher hid under the shade of the tree.
Many girls felt lazy when they saw the teacher. Fortunately, the basketball court was not far and they knew the boys were there. They had divided themselves into two teams; Class A against Class F.

Xia Yao was not very interested but the heroine was. Xia Xi wore pigtails and a few good students from Class A were beside her. The sky blue sports uniform issued by the school looked good on her and her hair was swinging as she trotted with her volleyball.
“Xia Yao, let’s go to the basketball court to watch! No one wants to play against us.” Xu Xinuan threw the ball in her hand, which accurately landed in the basket ten meters away.
There really weren’t many people left around and Xia Yao nodded.
“Put you ball away first, it’s too much trouble holding it.” Xu Yinuan reached out to help her but Xia Yao shook her head.
“It’s not in the way, it’s no bother.” She needed the ball to hit the heroine later, how could she leave it behind?”

The two girls walked towards the basketball court and Xu Yinuan mumbled along the way: “Oh, if only Xu Shizhou had a better temper… Every day he has a dark face as if everybody owes him a million!”
Xia Yao agreed: “Yes, his skin is not very white to begin with but his face also gets darker and darker every day.”

When the court appeared, Xia Yao searched for the figure of her target. Xia Xi liked to be the center of attention and was easy to find.
Just as Xia Yao found her and was weighing her strength before launching her attack, a basketball headed towards them swiftly.
