Chapter 23: Camping trip

Many curses appeared in Xia Yao’s mind and she only felt that she had been tricked by Xu Shizhou. Ah, he was no longer a good person, he had regained his identity as the third licking dog!
“Let’s talk, what’s wrong?” Xia Yao put away her white lotus skills and stayed against the wall.
The scene of the girl patiently teaching students after school appeared in Xu Shizhou’s mind and he couldn’t help but feel jealous: “I don’t want you to keep tutoring others. I want one-on-one.”
Xia Yao looked up at him and realized that he didn’t seem to be joking. That was strange, tutoring one person was the same as tutoring a group. Why wouldn’t he let her teach others? This third licking dog was too much.
“You are too overbearing.” Xia Yao snorted, “We are all classmates, we are supposed to progress together.”
As if he was shocked by the righteous tone of the girl, Xu Shizhou was silent for a while. His hand instinctively wrapped itself around the waist of the girl he liked and he said in a low voice: “One-on-one, okay?”
Even though it was late autumn and she was more tightly dressed, Xia Yao still felt the unexpected touch. Frightened for a second, she stared at Xu Shizhou in shock and bit her lower lip. She reached out and slapped his hand away.
“Let me go, class will start soon!” She glared at him and without waiting for him to move, she kicked the door open and fled. She suspected that the third licking dog had been possessed by a ghost.

After the weekend, it was time for the traditional fall excursion of Williston Noble High School. This year’s trip was a bit late and didn’t start until November but the most eligible students of the school were taken on a camping trip.

This year’s camping site was in a well-known scenic area. The campsite included lakes, sandy fields, grasslands, and mountains.
Xia Yao, Xu Yinuan, and Sweet Sister were sharing a tent. Because Xia Yao was so strong, she walked with the tent all the way, faster than any of the groups. Sweet Sister was carrying her camera as always, taking pictures of everyone from time to time, speaking along the way: “Yaoyao, you’re too fast! Walk slower, wait for me! My camera can only see your afterimage!”

The teenager who had been following her, thinking he would be able to carry her if she ever got tired, realized that the girl’s physical strength was really not normal. She rushed up all the way and when she arrived at the camping site, she didn’t look exhausted at all.

Once everyone arrived at the camping site, they all started to set up the tents. Xia Yao had never learned how to do it, let alone Xu Yinuan and Sweet Sister who were both ladies of wealthy families. This finally gave the teenager a chance to act and Xu Shizhou took the tent without saying a word and fixed the mess Xia Yao had made.
“I will do it.” He finally said.
Since the last incident in the storage room, Xia Yao felt that he had not just been asking for one-on-one tutoring sessions but had a bit of an ulterior motive, and she couldn’t help but be on her guard recently.
But seeing how helpful he was right now, it looked like he was aware of his mistake that day and Xia Yao decided to continue to issue him a good person card and stop calling him the third licking dog again.
“Thank you!” Xia Yao squatted next to the boy, “I will help you.”
The two of them found an open space and began to assemble the tent. Although Xia Yao still didn’t understand the instructions, most of the work was done by Xu Shizhou and the girl ended up cheering on the side.

Xia Yao was acting as Xu Shizhou’s personal cheerleader and was caught off guard by the sound of the system in her head.
[Host, you can’t relax yet. Don’t think that because there have been no tasks recently, you are done with me.]
It was true that lately, she had been very focused on her studies.
[Hey, I have never slacked off!]
[An additional task has been issued. The host is requested to appear under the Crooked Tree before 22:02 and complete the plot of “The sweetheart of the three big bosses”. The host should push the heroine down the hill.]
[Additional task? Does that mean that I can not complete it?]
[If the host completes the task, you can get 100,000 yuan of moving funds. Please decide whether you want to accept the task or not.]
Xia Yao’s eyes lit up, her biggest need right now was money!
[I accept, I accept!]

The night was filled with shadows of trees and because the camping site was on a mountain, the stars were brightening the sky and the forest was dark and silent.
After climbing the mountain for almost a day, everyone was tired. They told a few ghost stories around the bonfire and after that, either bored or frightened, the students yawned and went back to rest in their tents. Some people wanted to go watch the sunrise tomorrow morning and decided to rest early for that.
Xu Yinuan was the scary and resolute big sister at school but she was the most timid when it came to ghost stories. While Sweet Sister was telling an urban legend about cannibals, her face was pale but didn’t want to show that she was terrified. She hugged Xia Yao’s arm tightly and urged her to accompany her back to the tent.
Xia Yao looked at the time on her phone; it was 9 pm and there was still an hour left before her mission.

Xia Xi went back to rest early. She didn’t understand, so many people had been on her side when she had posted anonymously on the forum, claiming they wanted to get rid of Xia Yao too, but as soon as her username had been exposed, she had fallen into trouble.
Now it seemed that she was the one in the wrong.
Even when she had gone back to school, the friends who had been close to her in the past had alienated themselves either intentionally or unintentionally. She had also seen those friends who used to make fun of Xia Yao gather around her and chat as if they had never spoken ill of her. They had obviously been the meanest before. It was just plastic friendship, her brother was the only one to genuinely care about her!

She had warned herself over and over again not to think too much but her thoughts just wouldn’t leave her alone, leading her to recall all the things that had happened recently and her eyes gradually turned red.
When Ji Huai had seen her for the first time, he had obviously liked her but had somehow ended up forming such a good relationship with Xia Yao instead.
And Xu Shizhou… She still remembered when they had first met and talked about cats but now, he was also on Xia Yao’s side. She had clearly done nothing wrong but everybody was leaving her one by one. Was Xia Yao really that good? She was a disgusting and stupid country bumpkin!

The girl she was sharing a tent with had already fallen asleep, but Xia Xi kept tossing until she finally walked out. She subconsciously walked to Xia Yao’s tent, where all lights had already been turned off. She didn’t want Xia Yao to sleep well! How could she have a beautiful dream when she was suffering from insomnia!
Xia Xi’s nose was sour and she ran away without looking back. She didn’t know where she found the courage on such a dark night but she walked for a while without even realizing it.

When she finally went back to her senses, she was already in the forest and she suddenly felt scared. The moonlight was dim and the woods were dense, and the few fireflies flying around her made the whole scene even more eerie.
She had to go back but when she turned her head, she saw a crooked tree on a small slope not far away. There seemed to be a person sitting under it but because the light was sparse, she could not see who it was.
Xia Xi was a little silly, she actually didn’t know how to go back. Seeing someone appear, she mustered up the courage to walk toward them.
She walked to the tree and found out that the figure was a little familiar. But before she could see who it was, she asked: “Classmate, do you know the way back to the camping site?”

The girl sitting under the tree was listening to an English podcast when she heard a sound. She took off her earphones slowly, stood up, and patted the grass stuck on her body before turning around.
“Sister, what a coincidence.” What a coincidence she had been waiting there for almost half an hour…
Xia Xi’s eyes were still a little red, she was scared and aggrieved, and when she found out that the person there was the one she hated the most, her mood suddenly worsened. She never wanted to hear the word “sister” from her mouth ever again, she felt sick just from hearing it!
“Xia Yao, why are you here?” Xia Xi stared at her.
“Is this your place? Why can’t I be here?”
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be out at night and I wouldn’t get lost!” The girl’s face became a little distorted.
“Ah, you’re blaming me?”
“If it weren’t for you, my friends wouldn’t leave me! What qualifications do you have to enter Class A?”
“…”
Xia Yao felt a little speechless but smiled: “Yes, this is because of me your friends left me and I definitely didn’t enter Class A because I got first place in the grade… Do you have any other skills besides barking like a mad dog?”
She usually thought that talking to Xia Xi was as funny as talking to an elementary school student but seeing her ferocious face, she faintly felt that something was wrong.
Xia Xi stepped forward abruptly and Xia Yao’s figure reflected in her dark pupils. Without her, her adoptive parents wouldn’t have left. She would still be the only daughter of the Xia family and her classmates would still be surrounding her…
She would still be the focus of everyone!
“Why don’t you just die?” Xia Xi yelled and stretched out her hand.

Xia Yao had just wanted to annoy Xia Xi a little but ended up being pushed down by her. Her stance had not been steady to behind with; the sand under her feet suddenly slipped and her whole body immediately lost balance—
Could it be that because she was supposed to push the heroine down, her intentions had rebounded on her halo? Damn, that wasn’t impossible!
Xia Yao looked at the grim-eyed girl in front of her and instinctively grabbed her hand: “Are you insane, sister? Isn’t it better to die together?”
“Ah—”
Xia Xi was suddenly pulled by Xia Yao. Unable to break free, she instinctively screamed. Xia Xi had come out on a whim and was not wearing a lot of clothes. Thin branches cut through her skin and her body hit the ground heavily as both girls rolled down the hillside together.
Xia Yao was guarding her head with one hand and was holding Xia Xi’s wrist tightly with the other. Her body was knocked on a rock and she felt pain all over.
What bad luck! She finally realized something important: villains died because they talked too much. Ah, this was such a shame! Had she pushed Xia Xi down at the beginning instead of saying anything, she wouldn’t be hurting right now!
