The Legend Of The Rune Master

5 years have passed since James' "rebirth" and the time is coming for him to start school.

"Mother I can't wait to go to school in the morning, I'm gonna learn so much!". James shouted to his mother.

His mother chuckled and said "I cannot wait either and I know you will do wonderful".

"Test time! What is my name " she asked.

"Mother your name is Efanachica Futhark". James said

" And what is yours?" Efanachica asked him.

"My name is Dragx Futhark" James said quickly .

"What is your age?" Dragx' mother asked

"I am 5 years old". Dragx answered

" what country are you from ".

Efanachica questioned.

"I am a citizen of Thuriza kingdom". Dragx replied with a groan.

"Mother I already know these things". He said

"I know, I know son I'm just checking". Efanachica said with a laugh.

"Now I think we should get some sleep so that we are fresh and ready for tomorrow don't you, dragx?"  Efanachica asked him.

"Very well mother" dragx answered.

Dragx's mother would sometimes read him bed time stories at night.

"Tonight dragx I will tell you about Zayde the imperial knight who struck fear into the hearts of men for hundreds of years" dragx mother said as she started the well known legendary tale.

Dragx walked quickly to school in the morning, while ignoring the glares and hateful sneers thrown his way. When dragx first experienced the hate and discrimination he thought it was the colour of his skin but after seeing many brown skinned people within town and none of them were treated as he was.

Dragx soon realized that it was not his skin colour but his means of birth, dragx is what they call a bastard child because he was conceived without marriage. Dragx's mother told him that she fell in love with a very important noble. Dragx's mother told him of her unexpected pregnancy and how her lover was forced into an arranged marriage.

Dragx didn't really care about the means of his birth or if his father was in his life. He didn't care about the glares and the discrimination. He was used to it anyway.

In his former life as James Smith he was an orphan who fought his way to great heights within the scientific community. He had to face the envy and discrimination of older scientists who didn't like some nobody out shining them.

In fact dragx is happier  with his new life than he was in his old one. Dragx has one thing he didn't have in his old life, his mother. Dragx rushed through the busy streets in  his small town.

The streets where packed with people moving in all directions and Street vendors yelled the prices of their products.

He walked for thirty minutes through the busy streets and reached his destination, a large building made of mostly wooden planks.

Dragx looked at the building which will inform him of this world and its wonders even if he might get a small amount. His thirst for knowledge will be quenched as soon as he gets into one of the noble academies where most of the information on the world can be found.

Dragx walked hopefully into the building. "Look out new world I will uncover your secrets".

2 years have passed since that day and in those 2 years  dragx studied and researched about magic.

According to the books dragx has read. Magic is a phenomenon which was once thought to be only accessible by the magical beasts of the world. In that time humanity was at it's lowest state, humans where easy prey for the beasts and humanity was on the brink of extinction. Fortunately the first mage he who became the first king of humanity realized that humans could use magic, however they needed to have a material to pour their elemental energy into and then  they would have to say ancient words to mold and control the magic.

Though not just any material can hold magic. One would have to  find material would be a tangible form of their element.

The first mage discovered that every magical beasts has two crystals within their bodies.

One of the crystals was a sphere and the other was shaped like a hexagon.

The first mage discovered that the spherical crystal was the soul essence of the beast, this powers their bodies and is like a  brain to the beasts. This crystal  was completely useless to use magic.

However the crystal which was shaped like a hexagon was the magical focus of the beasts which they where born with . What ever element or elements the beast was born with it would have the same elemental core.

By extracting these cores and molding them into wands,staffs, rings,bracelets and necklaces and pouring their magical element into a similar elemental focus their magical energy  would then be released.

Under the orders of the first mage humanity fought back effectively against these beasts and magical races.

And in a little over ten years, humanity came together and made villages, towns,cities and kingdoms. To protect these human residents magical wards where used.

It has been 50 millennia since  then.

There are 10 main types of magic.

There is Water, Fire,Air,Earth,lighting, poison,light,dark,Holy and Demonic magic.

Sometimes different magical beasts of different elements mate, this causes there to be a mixture of the elements.

Such as a water type beast mating with a wind type beast, their offspring would be Ice elemental beasts With an ice elemental core.

A humans magical affinity is usually determined by their personalities, for example a very short tempered person would most likely have a fire affinity.

Though ones affinity can be chosen by genes. For example the magical high nobles offspring would be  born with their parents affinities. These people are the Royal nobles who's

magical affinities are passed through their bloodlines. This makes their control and power double that of a normal mage.

Sometimes Royal noble families marry outside of their bloodlines into another and as a result of such a Union, the offspring is born with a mix affinity much like the beasts. For example a  Royal noble of  wind marries a Royal noble of water,their child would be a powerful ice mage. The child would also be able to use wind and water magic separately.

Though not all humans have magic. I these people are known as commoners.  A mage and a commoner could have a child that can use magic, however the chances of a noble and a commoner having having a mage offspring is quite low .

Sometimes the offspring could also be born with magic but the child  wouldn't have an affinity.  These mages are known as failed mages because of there inability to cast elemental magic.

Failed mages usually have low amounts of magical energy and thus have to practice free magic.

Free magic is a kind of magic which can only be described as a non affinity form of magic.

Free magic uses small amounts of magical energy to cast.

There are two types of  free magic: Rune magic and Alchemy.

Failed mages normally learn free magic to assist mages so that they can learn a living.

And free magic is an important part of society. Rune magic is used to create magical wards which protect  settlements from magical beasts.

Alchemy is used to make potions and ointments.

Failed mages are also not very uncommon.

Some failed mages are used as servants and even slaves to create potions and various other things.

Dragx  shivered at the thought of being a failed mage if that was to happen he would become a servant to the arrogant mages to earn a living.

That was if he could even cast magic. He shivered even more of the thought of having not being able to uncover the mysteries of this world.
