The Rise Of The Consortium

Chapter 33 - He must be here

Trailed. Now, what does that mean? Why is it that every time she came across a new word, she felt that she had never heard it before? First severance, then this trailed. "I'm sorry, but what is this trailed?" she asked politely.

The doctor paused whatever he was doing and looked at her intently. "Dear girl, how..how come do you live in the city without knowing what trailed means?" asked the doctor carefully as if anything would happen if he spoke any louder. "It's been happening in the city for years and an everyday headache and you know nothing about it?".

Well, nothing like that happened as his voice grew with each word. He again looked at her waiting for an answer. She quickly shook her head and looked down feeling ashamed. Almost everyone has been asking the same question. How come do you live without knowing these?

Suddenly she felt something was wrong in her life. Either nothing happened and everyone is making up a story or everything everyone saying is true and she doesn't remember any. But what does this trailed means? The doctor didn't say anything. She looked at him to find him his hands over his head in disbelief, pushing back his balding hair.

"But what is this trailed? What is trailing?" the doctor kept looking at her as if he didn't understand a word she was saying. She realized she was being an idiot. Trailing might mean running, isn't it? She guessed so. "Ok, I get it. People run to that swirl. But why? And wh--what are they running for?" asked Rio impatiently.

"Dear, people get trailed towards the swirl. They think the ones they've lost are calling." Her jaw dropped as she heard the doctor saying.

"The people whom you saw running there think their loved ones who died are calling them for help." Rio couldn't look into his eyes hearing this. Instead, she looked at a few white patches on his forehead which she thought had seen before. She looked down trying to remember where.

But her mind raced back to that day when her mother got up all of sudden, arms outstretched, running as if in a daze. So, she went there because she missed her father? That means her father is dead. Then everything is true. What was she doing at that time? Why doesn't she remember any? Why doesn't she run but her mother? A surge of sadness rose in her mind. How couldn't she remember this important part of her life? Everything is wrong if I don't remember this. No, this can't happen. He said that my father was in the hospital. He must be here. He should be here.
