Chapter 49: Entertainment is Essential

“It’s Slime Race, isn’t it? It’s not like you don’t know that gambling in Izel fort is forbidden, right? Just what the heck are you doing?”

As she was being scolded by Amanda-san, Karin-san dazedly looked up at her.

“I didn’t say anything about gambling, though?”

“Just now, you said ‘go and bet’, didn’t you?”

“I said ‘go and run’, not ‘go and bet’.

Hmmm… To me, the Elysian words sounded much like Japanese, but perhaps the words should actually be different, I think. For some reason, the sound that entered my ears and the sound that I understood in my brain were different.

Which means, this world’s [run] and [bet] probably also sound the same. How interesting.

“Just what the heck is going on?”

Amanda-san put both of her hands on her waist as she looked at Frank-san.

“Isn’t it just some kind of an entertainment? More importantly, this slime race is interesting. Can we do something like this outside the barrier too?”

Frank-san ignored Amanda-san’s question and looked at the race circuit that Karin-san made.

“Uh huh. Using the technology that I developed during the process of pouch-making, the slimes won’t mutate outside the barrier.”

“I see. …Which brings me to this, Argo.”

“What is it?”

“That is why. For the time being, we’ve attained peace after the Monster Flood ended, and so, this kind of amusement is important, don’t you think? The Monster Flood happened two years earlier than how it should. Everyone is anxious, don’t you think? With this, everyone can be more relaxed. Besides, you see—”

Frank-san paused right there as he then showed a smile befitting of a villain’s. No matter how you look at it, that expression isn’t priest-like, he’s like some bandit instead.

“The fact that we could tame the monsters using ‘Cure’ will soon be found out by the higher-ups from the temple. But we can’t find a variant child that easily. That’s where these slimes come into the play. They’re easy to get, and if the Slime Race becomes popular, the demand will increase. Today, these slimes aren’t variants and only normal ones, but if you include the green and brown slimes, the race will be more interesting.”

“However, gambling goes against the public order, right?”

“That’s why, let’s get the temple involved. If people want to see the Slime Race that’s happening inside the temple, they have to give some offerings to enter.”

“Since when the priests become dealers…?”

Ar-niisama’s brows wrinkled as the wrinkles pressed down the temple of his head.

I have an image that the priests are majestic people who are respected by everyone, but when it comes to Frank-san, that image is shattered to pieces.

“Even if they are serving the gods, it’s not like they can live by only eating mist. They need to be alive first so they can serve the gods. And if Karin is involved with the temple, there will be no problem with her learning ‘Cure’.”

Eh?

It will be a problem if Karin-san were to learn ‘Cure’?

Amanda-san also said it earlier, but it’s something that can only be learned by priests who are studying it, so is it no good for Karin-san to be studying it in order to learn it too?

“Good grief… Priest Frank surely doesn’t remember, but it’s not okay to teach Professor Karin ‘Cure’ just because it’s interesting, you know? Rightfully, we can’t teach the holy magic to someone who’s not the temple’s people.”

As expected, it’s not alright for people other than the temple’s people to learn ‘Cure’.

Ah, but I learned it even if I am not a priest… Though during the time I was in the game, I was once a priest so it should be safe.

“That’s why, Simon. Don’t you think it’s impossible for the people who haven’t received the god’s blessing to learn it?”

“Professor Karin is an elf. It’s easy for her to get the god’s blessing to begin with. Besides, the slime that Professor Karin brought along consumed holy water, so I’m afraid she’s very close to a god’s blessing. We still need to verify this, though.”

Hmm, hmm.

Which means, Karin-san, uhm… since she got to tame Maximillian Jr., she might have learned ‘Cure’ already.

“Ehh, then does that mean it’s impossible for me to learn ‘Cure’?”

Amanda-san who heard Simon-san’s explanation then put her hand to her face. Then, she turned to look at the slimes who participated in the Slime Race.

“I think it’s quite hard. However…”

“Is there some way?!”

“If you were to keep a slime who consumed holy water just like Professor Karin’s, and then practice while you’re in a party with Priest Frank, then perhaps you can, or so I think.”

I see. Frank-san couldn’t learn how to hurl a heal on his own quite well, but once he formed a party, he managed to learn it quickly. If that’s the case, there’s a possibility that Amanda-san can learn ‘Cure’.

“However, if you only want to dote on a monster, I think it’s still good even if you don’t make it your companion monster.”

As Simon-san said that, he meaningfully looked up at Frank-san’s head.

“Kyuu.”

There was a lovely pink rabbit there.

“Nyaa.”

Simon-san turned his eyes to look at Noir next. And then Purun who was on top of its head.

…Could it be that a companion monster’s default position is on top of one’s head… And Noir too, if only I weren’t a small kid, it would be riding on top of my head?!

C-could it be…?
