Chapter 34 - Departure

As the sun set over the training ground, it's deep red rays illuminating the multitude of shrunken faces. Two thousand teenagers and kids stood in front of a raised platform. Their eyes as sharp as hawks discerned the piles of food placed on the platform. It had been ages since they had eaten to their fill. Between them and the food stood a young lord and his aide.

"I hate speeches, so I'll keep it brief. No rushing. Enjoy the meal!" spoke the lord, his words sailed through the air, reaching even the farthest one of them.

The first few lines rushed towards the food, with savage eyes. The smaller ones were pushed aside. A stampede was on the brink of occurring when suddenly a powerful pressure froze the entire gathering in its tracks. Their instincts screamed at them to flee from the sudden appearance of a primordial beast.

Simply cracked his knuckles. The sound was thundering in the still silence.

"I said. No. Rushing."

"Thank you for coming tonight!" Simply addressed his onlookers. "Tonight, I spoke to some of you. You told me your goals and d.e.s.i.r.es, your struggles, and your stories. I want to help you all reach those goals, fulfil those d.e.s.i.r.es, overcome your struggles, and write a happy ending to your stories. Tomorrow, I shall set off into the wilderness. In the search for a new settlement. A fertile land which will grow into a prosperous city of this great Empire. I would like to share with you all tonight, the chance to become part of this history. The moon still reigned unopposed, as the night mist lingered. The town dogs remained curled up in last night's embers. A cold breeze rustled the fallen leaves. Multiple hushed voices disturbed the calm. A few hundred cloaked figures gathered in front of the northern town gate. They all carried something in common, the tools of their trades. Some held spears in their hands, while a round wooden shield was strapped to their backpacks. Others pulled sledges filled with metal working tools. Wood working equipment filled others. The air was quite tense. For many, this would be the first time that they would leave the relative safety of Eternal Landing's walls. For others, they fear the unknown, the wild.

As the first rays of the rising sun broke through the mist, a silver haired young man arrived. The second in command of this expedition went up to him. After exchanging a few polite greetings and the general status of the gathering, they mounted their assigned horses, before setting off into the rising sun.

An hour after the expedition's departure, another group left the walls unseen by the town guards.
