The Unknown God

Chapter 40 - Once upon a time... I was rich.

"My lord," hesitantly called out the lead architect, "this plan of yours fabulous..."

"What's the problem?" Simply asked cheerfully.

"The thing is that, hahaha, it will cost a lot. Like even more than Eternal Landing!"

"I estimate a cost price of a hundred thousands gold pieces and an additional thirty seven thousand gold pieces for the workers," added an architect.

"That much, huh." Simply gazed towards the distant island, before turning back them. "I have fifty thousand gold pieces on me at the moment. Use this to begin construction. I will come back to pay the rest once I have the money. As for the workers, if they are skilled, they can choose to be paid in properties. However I will give the permission, it will be a case by case type of thing."

"As you d.e.s.i.r.e my lord."

"How long before the gold runs out? And when do you think the construction will be completed?" enquired Simply.

"I believe the construction will be done in eight months. Fifty thousand gold pieces... should last three months."

'Eight months in the game. That is... two real months. Alright. As for the gold pieces, I have twenty-ish days to collect more. Wait, that is like two thousand something gold piece per day. Nani the f.u.c.k!'

"Ha... Ha... Ha... Alright, good luck."

---

The moon c.a.r.e.s.sed the land. On a hilltop, a lone figure stood. The whistling wind blew his hair, making it sparkle in the moonlight, giving him a surreal appearance. A pleasant earthy aroma lingered around him. His hands were clamps behind his back with his eyes closed. His breath was gentle and controlled. Slowly his eyes opened, revealing bright eyes.

"Well done, Rex."

A young a.d.u.l.t bowed towards the man. Behind him were two thousand kids.

Out of nowhere, a giant magical array appeared over the entire group. Many complex patterns revolved around the array. The ambient mana spiked before abruptly disappearing. The hilltop was deserted. No living soul could be detected. The inhabitants of the temporary lake fort had not detected any strange occurring, even though the hill was only a kilometre away from the fort.

---

The missing people reappeared inside a fiery world. Hot air replaced the cool mountain breeze. The kids placed their hands over their nose to minimise the overpowering sulphur smell.

"Welcome to your new home!" loudly exclaimed Simply. "Make groups of five."

They anxiously got into groups of fives. They looked at each other, terrified and nervous about what was to come next.

"As I said, turn you all into a force that will enter the annals of history. However, that will require your elbow grease, your tears and your blood. Look to the right. Look to your left. Those four people are now your family. Five of you will endure difficult times, laugh at your highs, and cry together at your lows. For the next five years, you will train to become warriors. Rexignis will be in charge of you. Once in a while, I will personally teach you. Everything will be provided, you only need to train, learn and endure."

---

The kids were divided into four massive halls. Each could hold four hundred and fifty people comfortably. This was the bonus of the pocket dimension. It could quickly arrange itself to suit the owner's needs. For example, four halls had been erected with a hundred rooms, a kitchen and a dining hall, a main hall, training fields. More importantly, the time could be controlled. As of now, it was set to maximum, making five years take just a month in real life.

This was why Simply had decided to train his own force from childhood instead of recruiting a.d.u.l.ts. When Fortress Umbra was completed, he would have a two thousand strong shadow legion ready to deploy hidden from the rest of the world. Furthermore, they would be completely loyal to him, and only him.

Rexignis entered Simply's personal place. It was a tower at the centre of the fiery domain. Everyone had been warned not to enter it without an invitation from Simply himself.

"Rex, my friend, come come. Sit down, care for a glass of wine? I heard this one his a heavenly blessing," welcomed Simply.

"Thank you. Yes please, my lord," answered Rexignis slightly surprised.

Once both had a glass full of wine in each, Simply proceded to explain to Rexignis his plan.

His plan involved a harsh training regiment, that would develop both the physique and the intellect of the kids. The first year was to give everyone a stable foundation. At the end of the year, those who were gifted in martial art and weapons would increase their skills in this field, while those who showed interest in management will enter the support staff of the legion, cooks and medics, as well as logistics, were the backbone of any army. As for those who showed an outstanding talent for both combat and leadership would enter the 'S' progam or specialist program. The S program would be directly overseen by Simply himself. When Rexignis tried to get more information on it, Simply changed the subject to the training regiment and other matter. An hour later, Rexignis left the tower. His mind was a mess after all his life had just undergone a three hundred and sixty turn for the better. Instead of starving and begging, he was now in charge of two thousand kids, tasked with training them.
