The Wild Man Of Pokemon

Chapter 18 - Contingency Plan is a go

I ducked under a floating pile of rock. Golduck was clearing a tunnel going down into the mountain. Each tunnel was eight feet tall, big enough for Pangoro to stand and just as wide. Lining the walls, were individual dens for families.

While Gogoat was collecting food, he was also getting a consensus of the mountain. For each group that he comes across, was another room we needed to make. I doubted we would get every family, but I had plans for an overflow space the size of a football field.

Weaving through the flying stones, I catch up with Golduck. 'Hows everything going?'

'Everything is going to schedule, though we are running into larger stones the deeper we go.' He replied.

'That's not surprising. When there is a boulder or something in the way, create a high pressure hydro pump. That should cut into it like butter.'

'Butter?'

'Its a very soft food.'

'Ah.'

'Is Aromatisse here yet? I want to watch her do her part.'

'Not seen her. She should arrive anytime though.'

'Okay. I'll wait by the entrance… Hello Nincada.' I waved walking by.

'Hello.' He chirped.

Nincada was running around ensuring there wasn't any cave ins. Anytime he felt a weak point, he would call some Psyduck to build a pillar. They would use confusion to compress clay. It came out similar to brick once dry so it should last.

Thus far, we had the first thirty or so dens made. Though it was no where near enough to house everyone.

Quickly reaching the entrance, I see Aromatisse landing. Hopping out of a harness contraption that a few Spritzee were carrying, she greeted, 'Hello there young one. I hear you caused quite the stir last time we met. Thank you for rescuing me and my kind.'

'I'm just glad that we got you out of there.'

'Oh look at Mr. Humble here. You need to buck up or else no one is going to take you seriously here,'

'If you say so. Gloom is ready to begin when you are.'

'Lead on then.' She goaded.

Heading down the tunnel, we came to one of the first dens. It was larger then our den as it was meant for a family of Skiddo. Gloom was their waiting.

'Hello. Are you ready?' I asked.

'Of course I'm ready boy. Lets get on with this before I fall over dead.'

'Oh don't be such a spoil sport Gloom. We both know you have many more years before you croak.' Aromatisse teased.

'Whatever you old wind bag.' He replied.

The room chilled.

'What was that you good for nothing fertilizer!?!'

'What do you mean? I was just complimenting on your youthful vigor.' Gloom quickly recovered.

'That's what I thought.'

I smirked at the interaction. 'If both of you are done flirting, we have a job to do.' I reminded.

'Fine whatever.' Gloom grumbled.

Reaching into a pouch I made from Scraggy leather, I pulled out a handful of seeds. Poking them into the ground in the corner, I said, 'Ready when you are.'

An orb of light emanated from Glooms crown. Lightly, he tossed it to the center of the room, where it burst out.

Blinded, I wait for my eyes to adjust. As soon as the black spots faded, Aromatisse flapped her wings. Pink fog flew out and coated the ground. The air became saturated with gentle energy and a floral aroma. Gloom followed by releasing a wave of life energy.

Grass carpeted the ground while the seeds I planted began to sprout. I watched closely seeing how the life energy interacted with plants. Raising my hand, I tried to will the energy to move. Nothing happened.

'Boy what are you doing?'

'I was just trying to manipulate the life energy a bit. Hopefully, I can repeat what I did that day.'

'Well your not going to do it with my energy. Its keyed to me and will only bend to my will.'

'Oh.'

'Yeah. You'll find that once an energy is keyed to a certain being, it will only respond to them. If another person tried to control it or overlap their own energy, they will cancel each other out.'

'Interesting. Then how did you use grassy terrain with Aromatisse's misty terrain?'

'Certain energy can be overlapped so long as the two users will it. If neither of us willed it, then it becomes a matter of who put more energy into it.'

'Fascinating. Tell me more.' Gloom backed away from my hungry gaze.

'Calm yourself young one. You look like you about to eat Gloom there.' Aromatisse warned.

Snapping out of it, I rub the back of my head, 'Sorry, I get caught up in learning new things that I go a little crazy.'

'Really now?' Gloom was unconvinced.

'Yes, sometimes I just can't help myself.' I apologized.

'I guess its alright, the d.e.s.i.r.e for knowledge is a noble one. But if you go off the deep end, I will slap you silly!'

'Got it.' I replied sheepishly.

'Come on we have other rooms to do.' Aromatisse said.

Getting back to work, we repeat the process in each room. Gloom would cast sunny day, then grassy terrain while Aromatisse did the same with misty terrain. From what I gathered, grassy terrain saturates the soil with life energy, replacing the need for nutrients. Misty terrain stimulated fast growth, allowing the berry bushes I planted to grow and bear ripe fruit in days rather then months. It had to be recasted every so often, but considering this would become the temporary home for the mountains residents, it would not be a problem.

We were on our fourth room, when Gogoat came barging in.

'Sir, we have a lead on the weapon.'

Eyes widening, I ask, 'Explain.'

'I was traveling through the south, near Venipede territory, when I ran into a Kecleon. After explaining the situation to him, he told me about a device he saw.'

'Go on.'

'He described as being made of metal and smelling nasty, like acid.'

That sounded like the device. 'Did he say where it was?'

'He did. He said it was near the base of the mountain, in cave guarded by Venipede.'

Hold on, somethings not right. 'How did he know it was there if Venipede were watching over it?'

'Kecleon are known to turn invisible and being able to stick to walls.' He replied.

'Something is still fishy about this.'

'Its fine. More importantly, we need to send the infiltration team immediately.'

Frustrated, I replied, 'Whatever. Contact Honedge and Pangoro. Have them investigate, but if they find anything off, pull out immediately. Understand?'

'Yes sir.' He leaped out, running as fast as possible to get the team.

'Boy, shouldn't you be more happy? We have a chance to stop Toxicroak once and for all.'

'I know. It might be nerves or something.'

'Its okay to be nervous. Its what makes us alive.'

'Thanks. Lets get back to work.' I exclaimed.

..............................…..

Honedge's POV

I had just finished a round of training when Gogoat bounded into the clearing.

'Is something wrong?' I called.

'We have a lead.' My eye darkened. I was only recently told that I was nominated to run an infiltration team. Of course, I tried to refuse; however, when Am sided against me, there was no room for negotiation.

'Where are the others?'

'I have already met with them, they will meet us at the location.' Gogoat said.

'Lead the way.' I commanded, letting him fill me in on the details.

..............................…..

The sun had crested its peak and was falling to the horizon when we met up with the rest of the team. Aside from myself, there were five total on the team.

Pangoro. The designated leader of the Panchem line. Heavy hitter and second in command.

Skiddo. From what I am told, an excellent navigator and nimble on his feet.

Spritzee. Eyes in the sky and massive damage dealer.

Gloom. A cousin of the leading Gloom and our poison specialist. He will be in charge of sleep powder production.

Golduck. Big brain and supurb water user.

These were the best of the best from each group, and I, someone barely two years old, will be leading them.

All of them were waiting around, doing their own thing. Pangoro was practicing punches on an invisible foe. Skiddo was sun bathing, while the other three was chattering. While Pokemon don't have to vocalize their thoughts, it felt more natural to do so.

'Attention.' Gogoat shouted.

Glancing up, all five gathered together in a circle.

'Are we finally ready to go? I have been waiting here all day.' The haughty Spritzee complained.

'What is a Honedge doing here? I thought they were kicked off the mountain.' Skiddo question.

'Shut up!' Pangoro shouted. 'Have a little pride. Shouting at the drop of an oran berry.'

'Are we getting food out of this deal? I forgot to bring any with me.' Gloom mentioned.

'I doubt it. With Gogoat running around and collecting all of it, I doubt there is a berry left anywhere.'

'Oh thats too bad.'

'Enough! You are all here for one reason and one reason only. It is imperative that you complete this task with both finesse and efficiency.'

'Does this have to do with the rumors of a weapon Toxicroak plans to unleash and kill everyone on the mountain?' Golduck surmised. The air tensed.

'Yes. This has to do with exactly that. You six will be leading a mission to both recover and destroy this weapon before nights end. Behind me is your team leader and before you complain, he is a trusted confidant to the coalition leader. Treat him with the utmost respect.' Gogoat explained.

'Greetings.' I bowed to each.

'Hold on. You mean to tell me that we are placing the sanctity of our lives in the hands of a traitorus Honedge?' Spritzee w.h.i.n.ed, 'That can't be right. This has to be some joke.'

'It is not and if any of you question his ability, I will remind you that he has both been an integral in two missions as well as having a kill count nearing a hundred.'

Spritzee gulped.

'On a different note.' I interrupted before any more questions were asked. 'I think proper introductions are in order. I am Honedge the Impervious. Bug smiter and Punk hunter. Who might my compatriots be?'

Spritzee huffed, 'There is no way I am introducing myself to a backstabber like you.'

Golduck intervened, 'I am Golduck. I enjoy swimming in clean waters and playing with my young siblings and cousins. The sprite behind me is Spritzee.'

Bowing like a gentleman, I return the gesture.

Jumping up and down, Gloom introduced himself, 'I am Gloom, I like to eat berries and sleep in soft dirt under the sun.' Drool dripped from the corner of his mouth.

'Skiddo, I am fast and swift and very much look forward to working with you!' He was young. Almost as young as me.

'Why on earth would you look forward to working with him!' Spritzee hollered.

'Because he trains with the Forest Keeper!'

'The who?' I asked.

'It was the title given to Leader. After what happened a while back, Pokemon have been enamored with him and his connection to the forest.' Gogoat explained.

'I see.' I already had plans to rub it in his face later.

'You have to tell me. How did he do it? How did he make the forest so mad?' Skiddo prodded.

'Skiddo! You do not bombard your surperiors with such foolish questions. You are representing our kin, act as someone worthy of that respect.'

'Sorry sir.' He apologized.

'Moving on. From what intel we have gathered, you will be covertly raiding a cave deep within Venipede territory.'

'Not those icky bugs. They are so disgusting.' Spritzee said.

'Focus.' Gogoat glared. Ignoring her grumbling, he continued, 'What you're looking for is a metal contaption, shaped like this.' He drew a picture in the ground. It was like a crystal, except made of metal.

'It sould smell like acid. Your job is to retrieve it and then safely destroy it. Golduck I assume you could handle something like this?'

'Yeah. So long as its not too complicated, my minds eye should be able to take it apart.'

'Then it is imperitive that you begin doing that as soon as you find the weapon.'

'Aye sir.'

Stepping in, I said, 'We wil be walking into enemy lines with the fate of the mountain on our shoulders. I know you do not trust the invincible I, but I hope that for the time being, we will put aside the past to save our futures. Can you do that?' I stared at Spritzee and Pangoro as they were the ones with the most beef with me.

'Fine.' They muttered.

'Good. We leave now.'
