The Wild Man Of Pokemon
Chapter 24 - Finished Business
Thunder spectated our battle.
The throes of war died and a victor will soon be decided.
Our final spectacle the tie breaker. Already, I detected an audience.
They didn't matter, they were the ones waiting for the victor to choose their fate.
Such was the significance of our stalemate.
Toxicroak was steady and vicious, aiming for sure kill hits and pain inducing strikes. My body was littered in venomous slashes and bruises.
I was deliberate and harsh, each hit a bone breaking bash, a severing laceration, and debilitating stab. We gave each other no quarter, no opening, it was a miracle I still lived against a Pokemon clearly more experienced than I.
He jabbed at my throat, hoping to asphyxiate. I deflected intending to smash his wrist. Lunging, I stabbed at his midsection, only for the blow to be sidestepped, retaliation payed in kind.
It was a losing battle, I had a weight on my back restricting my movements. But I was sure as hell not going to let this end in my defeat. Tartarus has a cell reserved, all I needed was to take him with me.
'You're different from when I met you so long ago.' He praised.
'Lets say I was properly motivated.' I slashed at his throat.
'We could go far together, our strength would be immense!'
Was he serious? 'Not happening!'
'Such a shame.'
Our dance continued. Lightning peeled blinding us but a moment. I felt my spear connect and a burning pain emanated from under my heart. Pain burned. My legs quivered, but my resolve hardened. Down must the tyrant fall and the Pokemon freed at last.
'Why do you fight?' he questioned, 'To protect something? Don't make me laugh, its such a pointless reason. They will abandon you like others.'
'Leave me out of your family problems!' I swung voraciously.
He chortled, the laughter of insanity, 'How presumptuous, I was an orphan through and through. Its the very concept of family that I hate. To be dependent on others for safety, I am strong and I don't need a family to get stronger.'
'Save your philosophy for someone who actually cares.' He kicked my attack away.
'Fair enough.'
The exchange continued into a draw. Our breaths labored, our bodies battered. I smirked.
'Whats so funny?' He asked.
'This battle. Its useless. You have nothing left.'
'How so?'
'Look around.'
At the very edge of the treeline, Pokemon watched our battle. Most were from my side. The old Gogoat and his kin, Aromatisse returned from funneling the toxic air into the upper atmosphere. I saw the Snorlax only lightly damaged, and the rest of the leaders in near perfect shape. Interspersed, however, were the remnants of Toxicroaks forces.
He looked at the remains of kingdom and only saw the disdain. Seeing him so close to death has disillusioned them. Even if he killed me, everyone here would easily finish him off.
'I see. You are the victor.' He started.
'Good.'
'But.' I flinched. I was beyond exhausted. 'If I am going down, then I am taking you with me.'
Our battle resumed. Never have I been faster. Never have I been so aware. Toxicroak dies today, but my own life might be forfeit. Unless…
Getting into his guard, I pulled off a series of stabs, each finding their mark.
Searing pain. While I was able to get him, he pulled off a jab of his own. His red stinger lodged in my back.
'It seems our battle has come to its conclusion. I will escape and I will come back to kill every living being on this mountain.'
A laugh escaped my lips. He was but a broken Pokemon who has lost. I doubted any here would let him escape so easily. Even so.
'Sadly, this is the end for you.' I said, blood dripping from my wounds.
'How so?'
I smirked. Its poetic. During the last two months of training, I discovered something. Something perfect for this scenario.
'I didn't come into this battle alone.'
His eyes opened wide. Three little fingers pierced through his c.h.e.s.t, glowing in the bronze glow of fighting type energy. Revenge was sweet.
Coughing, blood filled his lungs.
'I think this concludes our business here today.' I said as I collapsed to the ground, my body catching up to my injuries.
'You are right.' He said as he followed, 'I must know.' He coughed.
'Hmm?'
'What is your name? I know humans have them. I want to know of the one who destroyed everything I built.'
I laughed, red fluid dripping from my forehead. 'Drake, Oliver Drake.'
'I see.' His breath hitched and his eyes turned glossy. He was dead and everything was over.
We had won.
