Chapter 7: Grateful

In the following days, they both cooperated with each other well. The awkwardness between them was reduced. 

She was still dependent on Luo Ziling for meals. He feared the woman would move too much, risking opening her wound. This is why he would carefully feed her.

 He also aided her with the medication that was given to her. 

A few more days later, her guard was almost completely lowered. The way she looked at him was warmer than before. 

In fact, he could even see a trace of gratitude in her eyes.

After spending so many days with her, she no longer sensed any sort of threat from him. 

He had been carefully tending to her, and she felt extremely grateful for it. 

It was the first time she had felt grateful to a civilian after so many years. 

Due to certain rules and regulations, she dared not interact with him, much less reveal any information about herself.

Luo Ziling did not pursue the matter, and for that, she was relieved.

Five days after being treated, the woman’s wounds were now completely scabbed over. Her complexion had returned to that of a normal person. 

With Luo Ziling’s support, she could now walk slowly from the room to the bathroom, then to the courtyard. 

She examined herself and was happy with the results. However, she refrained from displaying any changes in front of Luo Ziling. She remained “feeble and weak” in front of Luo Ziling. She would let him feed her and let him hold the bowl against her mouth as he fed her medication, and she would let him help her walk. 

One fine morning, after Luo Ziling helped her to the bathroom and made breakfast, he left the house to gather herbs in the mountains. 

That was a task entrusted to him by his grandfather. 

It was a beautiful morning as the weather was good. There was no snow to seal the path to the mountain. All in all, it was a good morning to climb the mountain in search of herbs. 

His grandfather wanted him to gather a lot of herbs, all kinds of them, as ingredients for him to make various medicines. 

Hence, Ziling had to go to the mountains every day.

With the injured woman’s arrival to their house, Luo Ziling’s time in gathering herbs was greatly reduced.

He feared that he would not be around when the woman needed him. 

As he prepared to leave the house, the injured woman finished her breakfast and went to bed to sleep.

He helped by adjusting the blanket to cover her properly. He then made tea and something to eat before he left the house quietly. 

Unbeknownst to him, after Luo Ziling left, the woman laying on the bed swung open her eyes, and got out of bed swiftly.

She had merely been pretending to sleep!
