Chapter 55: Yuki from the Village’s Outskirts

 We left the inn while the owner waved at us.

Though Dorami walked excitedly at first…

“S-sho cold…” (Dorami)

As soon as we disappeared from the owner’s sight, her teeth began chattering.

It seemed like she wanted to show her cool side so she endured the chill.

“You endured well.” (Jade)

“A-after all, Dorami wants to be a reliable adventurer…” (Dorami)

“Yep. You’re already a fine adventurer. But if you try and put up a front all the time, you’ll get tired. It’s okay to relax once in a while.” (Jade)

“N-now is that time…” (Dorami)

Since I’m the only one here, Dorami wasn’t hiding that she felt cold.

We walked through the snow and soon enough, we saw a forest in the distance.

There was a lone house standing there.

“It’s pretty far…” (Dorami)

“Yeah. He said that it was on the outskirts of the village, but it’s even farther out than I imagined.” (Jade)

“Why does she live so far away? It’ll definitely feel lonely…” (Dorami)

“Yep. I wonder…” (Jade)

Even though we call it a small village, there’s plenty of vacant land.

It’s not like she’s bad at socializing, considering that she even helped out with shoveling the snow.

If it isn’t because she’s not getting along well with the other villagers, then…

“Did she build her house there because a hot spring happened to show up?” (Jade)

“That’s probably it! Either way, it’s good that it’s so far away!” (Dorami)

“Why?” (Jade)

“Because Dorami’s warmed up while she was walking!” (Dorami)

“I see. And you’ve also gained some stamina, so it’s more like a reward.” (Jade)

“Umu! From now on, Dorami should exercise whenever it gets cold!” (Dorami)

“By the time we get back to Sundeil, you’ll become more reliable.” (Jade)

“Dorami wants Garnet to say, “I’ve underestimated you.” (Dorami)

“I want her to tell me, “You’re as cool as always.” (Jade)

While we were talking, we arrived at the house.

It was a small wooden house.

The door opened shortly after we knocked.

A calm-looking woman walked out.

She was wearing fluffy clothes with a fur hood covering her head.

Her long hair which could be seen spilling out of the hood was as white as snow.

“We have something for Yuki-san~!” (Dorami)

As soon as we started talking, Yuki-san’s eyes widened and she stiffened.

Maybe she’s wary that an unknown duo suddenly appeared.

“D-did we get the wrong house…?” (Dorami)

Dorami awkwardly asked.

The woman then seemed to come to her senses.

“I am indeed Yuki, may I ask who the two of you are?” (Yuki)[1]

“We came to deliver this to Yuki-san!” (Dorami)

T/N: It’s the first time she’s ever used honorifics…

“This is… firewood, yes?” (Yuki)

“Yes, it’s from the innkeeper.” (Jade)

“He wanted to thank you for helping him shovel some snow the other day!” (Dorami)

“I understand now. Thank you very much for going out of your way to deliver this to me.” (Yuki)

“No, no, it’s only natural for an adventurer to help out!” (Dorami)

“You… you’ve become an adventurer?!” (Yuki)

“Yeah, look!” (Dorami)

Dorami proudly showed off her Flower Crest.

She looked embarrassed as Yuki-san scrutinized it.

“It’s the first time Dorami’s seen someone look at it so intently…” (Dorami)

“Oh, excuse me. It’s a bit unusual so I ended up staring at it too much.” (Yuki)

“Unusual? But, the old man at the inn also had a Flower Crest.” (Dorami)

“It’s because he always wears gloves. You also need to put on your gloves immediately. Your hands will get all coarse.” (Yuki)

She seemed genuinely concerned about Dorami.

She had an awkward smile, a hoarse voice, and a peculiar way of speaking, but you can tell that she has a kind personality.

“Do you have some frostbite medicine with you, by any chance?” (Yuki)

“It’s in the inn! Dorami will apply it after this!” (Dorami)

“Well then, we’ll be going back to the inn.” (Jade)

“Goodbye~” (Dorami)

“P-please wait a minute!” (Yuki)

“What’s wrong?” (Dorami)

“S-since you’ve come all the way here, please rest first! Would you like to have some hot milk?” (Yuki)

“There’s hot milk?!” (Dorami)

“Yes! There are lots! Will you have some?” (Yuki)

“Well, since we’re already here, should we?” (Jade)

“Agreed! Sorry for the disturbance~!” (Dorami)

We entered the house with Yuki-san’s invitation.

There was a fireplace warming the room.

Dorami sat on the small bench and relaxed.

“I have brought the hot milk~” (Yuki)

“Thank you~” (Dorami)

“Thank you.” (Jade)

I drank the hot milk as Yuki-san sat across from us.

It had a rich taste.

“Fuuu, it’s finally getting warmer… The room also feels really warm…” (Dorami)

“As it’s a small room, the heat has nowhere to escape to. As such, I am always warm.” (Yuki)

“If you’re always warm, why don’t you take off your hood?” (Dorami)

“I-I can’t take this off! I’m particularly sensitive to the cold! Rather than that, I’m more interested in your story!” (Yuki)

“Eh?! You’re interested in Dorami’s story?!” (Dorami)

“Yes! Very! I’m very interested in how you became an adventurer!” (Yuki)

“In that case…does Yuki-san admire Jade too?” (Dorami)

“Is he the hero I’ve heard so much about?” (Yuki)

“Umu. And this person right here is that Jade.” (Dorami)

“You are the ten-petal class adventurer?!” (Yuki)

Yuki-san suddenly widened the distance.

It’s the first time I’ve seen this reaction.

Actually, rather than being surprised, she looks a bit scared…

“It’s no wonder that you’re surprised. After all, Jade looks so gentle!” (Dorami)

“C-certainly, he does look like a very gentle person.” (Yuki)

“But, even though  he’s like that, he suddenly changes when it comes to monsters!” (Dorami)

“He changes?!” (Yuki)

“He’s usually so mild-mannered but once he finds a monster, he pulverizes it with a single blow!” (Dorami)

“He pulverizes them?!” (Yuki)

Yuki-san had tears in her eyes.

She really is scared…

“That’s enough about me, let’s talk about Dorami’s story.” (Jade)

“Then, Dorami will tell you a special adventure story!” (Dorami)

“Oh, I want to hear all about it!” (Yuki)

Yuki-san had a big smile on her face.

With the sound of applause, Dorami began to passionately talk about her adventures.

[1] – She’s talking extremely politely. It’s like absolute formal-level speech lol (at least that’s the most polite I’ve ever seen someone.)

Also, again, I don’t read chapters in advance so it’s my first time reading this part too but… Isn’t Yuki straight up Dorami’s mom? She’s in a village filled with old people but isn’t one herself, she’s very happy and concerned about Dorami despite it being the first time they met, and there’s the “you’ve become an adventurer” line, being scared of Jade, and also the white hair (white dragons~). Oh and the strange speech. She’s the only one aside from Dorami who talks weirdly (out of the norm).
