Vampire: Fall Of The Gods

Chapter 41 - Securing Ale

"Here they are. I made them one day as tests before the final product. I had this human girl I wanted to impress and I practised until I had a satisfying product to give it to her. When I gave it to her she and I started seeing each other and I even asked father if I could turn her and take her as my wife."

"Let me guess, he said you needed someone strong as your wife and not some random human girl?"

"Yes... I decided to give in to temptation and wanted to turn her anyway. Father found out and had her killed the moment she became a vampire."

"Bastard, are you sure it is fine to use these?"

"Yes I am sure. She would have wanted it as well."

"Not your perverted habit."

He laughed at the joke and gave me the bracelets. I recalled the magic circle and started to inscribe the circle onto the bracelet with a knife.

"WATER

AND REFLECT ALL."

I felt my mana drain rapidly as the two bracelets glowed. After a few seconds my mana stopped depleting and the bracelets dimmed.

"This should do it. Just brake it when you need it. I suggest keeping a blood orchid with you from now on. I need to head back and rest the short moment night is still upon us."

"Thank you, let me know when you plan on heading out."

"See you some other time then."

I gave Lorcan back the two bracelets and headed back to get some sleep.

When the sun had risen Rana woke me up and I got a piece of paper. I took the quill and started to write the letter.

'Thanatos has given me permission to handle everything related to the Eagle tribe. I want to use only your clan to attack them together with some of my friends. With this leading force we can use tactics to either wipe them out at once or peal them apart slowly. Since the force is small I would rather use the first one. It will not tire out our side if we go in big from the start. I want to get thorough information of the Eagle tribes location and then formulate a plan of action. Preferably I want us to move out within a week. Time waits for no one after all. How are things at your end?'

I burnt the letter and headed out into the village. I decided I wanted to walk around and see how things are.

"Athan!"

A human woman ran up to me from the farming area. The guard wanted to shout at her, but stopped when he saw me. I guess that is the difference between a peasant and a well known royal.

"I do not recall meeting you before today."

"Yes, I am a overseer from the farm. I wanted to thank you for the method of farming you gave us that day. It increased our proficiency and spared us some extra time actually. Would you like to see the crops?"

I thought for a moment and then nodded my head. She showed me the way past the guard. I could see his irritated face contract into some strange shape as we passed by. I slightly pointed my intimidation toward him and his face suddenly relaxed and a few drops of sweat formed. Looks like he wanted to do something when we had our backs toward him. Quite gutsy. Maybe he had a crush on her or something.

She had lead me to two crop fields. One was a wheat field and the other was filled with barley.

"I see. So the barley is used for the ale?"

"Indeed. We have other fields if you wish to see them?"

"No, it is fine. This may have helped me come up with an idea. I need to go."

I ran off towards the tavern.

As I approached the tavern I saw the girl stand outside. I remembered the way I left yesterday. I decided to apologise and then head in to see the owner. She saw me and her face grew slightly grim while forcing out a smile as she tried to walk away.

"Wait, I want to apologise for the way I left yesterday. I remembered a bad memory and I acted impulsively. I shouldn't have let my emtions get the better of me and hurt you in the process."

"No! I thought I had offended you in some sort. There is no need for you to feel guilty about anything. Is there perhaps a reason why you came here so early today?"

"Yes, is the owner here?"

"No he stepped out for a few minutes. If you want to buy something I could help you with it."

"Alright then."

I walked inside with her.

"So what is it that you wanted to buy?"

"I wanted to secure a bulk amount of ale I want to sell somewhere. Of course the owner gets all the profit."

"I see, I think you need to discuss this with the owner. Speak of the devil, here he is."

The owner entered and he greeted me. She walked over to the owner and told him what I wanted. Afterwards he waved his hands and she went outside.

"Why do you want to sell the ale outside this village?"

"Cannot specify."

"Fine, since you helped before I can give you twenty barrels ale in three days. The problem lies in the permit you need to secure if you want to sell it in any big city. That would be your problem. I also want fifty percent of the profit."

"Thank you. I will come collect the merchandise in three days. When I return after selling these items we can split up the profits."

I exited the tavern and suddenly a letter appeared in front of me. I headed back home to read the letter and send a reply to Sasha.

When I returned I opened up the letter Sasha sent me.

'I have discussed everything with the clan and they agree with your plan to overwhelm them. They also see the mental strain a prolonged attack would have on the moral and efficiency of the combat force. The Eagle tribe is actually close to your clan. They are about two hundred kilometres from Scienta city. How do you suggest we gather information about the Eagle clan?'
