WAR OF AGES

--- Van pov ---

"All right, brothers," said Van as hike the mountain while wearing light armor.

"Brother? who is your brother," said Ray after drinking from his leather bottle.

The entire group laugh.

"It is tiresome, hiking in this place even bored me to death. Humor me up, guys," as van look back to the group. "At the very least, give me some joke" insisting the group.

"Nope" "Not, gonna happen" "Not by a million years"

"..." Followed one to another soldier.

"Guys..." drop his shoulder in sadness.

"Okay, I'll do it even you guys don't like it," said Van.

"Then we'll plug our ear so we don't hear any of the jokes, then" retorted back by the second soldier.

"Again! ah, shot it..." as he crouches down unable to answer back.

The group once more giggled because the funny yet not so funny man made his untimely joke.

As the group arrives in the middle of the night as moonshine down showing the mountain revealing the town wall, as the group sees the wall below them with luck they all crouch down hiding from sentry's watch and with luck none of them were spotted.

Van pulls out three rope from his bag then tightens it on the nearby rock and secures it in place while Ash with his bow ready to fire release arrow after arrow toward the sentry watching the town wall.

After making sure there is no sentry left watching the wall, Van and some of the group slides down by the rope then watch the wall for any hidden sentry not yet kill. The next minute the rest of the group slide down while Ash cut the tow rope to hide they just sneak inside through the wall near the mountain.

"Ash, you and half of the team move on ahead and get the gate open. While Ray, me and the rest of the group will hold on at the crossroad," as Van slowly walks through the alleyway. "understood lead on, Van" said Ray.

"Okay, guys. let's go and leave this not funny clown" said Ash

"Urk?! you almost made me choke to death here" after done drinking his leather bottle followed by a laugh by Ray.

"Well you did tell us to crack some joke, there you have it" retorted by Ray.

"Enough with the joke and get this over with. Oh, here come company," as he looks toward the middle road.

As forty men with the sword and shield some even carry spear with them march toward Van and the group to intercept but instead flanked from both of their sides after killing the traitor group almost completely leaving only five to six still alive but wounded from the encounter before leaving the place to ambush another group.

Another twenty men carrying were the sword and shield walk from the right side of the crossroad as they walk closer they stop the middle of the road and pulling something from their back.

"Guys, hurry to take cover" shouted Ray.

Little too late whereas the traitor throws a volley of javelin toward their position incurring injuries to few of the group's soldiers but not so fatal, hitting a shoulder and the legs. Volley after volley of javelin was thrown before charging closer to Van's position but as they get closer they were welcomed by Ray and the companion's volley of mixed arrow and axe flew toward the traitor killing as they charge resulting death of the entire traitor squad.

"Close one, wait this is strange," said Van. "What is?" followed by Ray.

"They came in smaller numbers instead of getting larger, this is troubling," as he said in a worried tone. "That's... true then, everyone takes cover now!!!" shouted by ray.

Some the soldier was shocked and greeted by another volley of fire landed on the soldier killing them on the spot those who were lucky enough were shot on the head but the one doesn't get shot on their c.h.e.s.t and neck killing them slowly but painful death.

"Bastard" cursed by Van.

Most of Van's men were decimated while he and Ray wounded from the wave of the arrow, without any progress killing the remnant of his men as the traitor stop firing then followed by a sound of footstep marching to them, as Van peeks out of his cover a wall of shield and sword in front of his eye.

"Fall back to the gate, I said fallback to the gate. now!!!" shouted by Van

The surviving soldier starts to run back to the gate as they also carry the wounded with them with the weapon on their waist, but due to bad luck, another volley fired upon them as they retreat. Few of the wounded could not follow the retreat as their comrade falls together with them, as the traitor was standing above them and without any emotion, on their face, they quickly stab the wounded to the dead.

"Damn it, they even kill the wounded this is no battle its a bloody massacre," as van curse the traitor.

As van and the rest survivor arrive at the front of the gate a few meters away from the gate, van, and his remaining soldier quickly barricade the road with box and even some spear at the gate armory.

"I was planning to let those soldiers off, saving their life but now," as tears drop from his eye. "I'll kill them even when they beg for mercy, I give them a painful death," as he let a terrifying smile appear on his face.

As Van and his soldier prepare the barricade and reinforced by the remaining soldier at the gate, Ash shouts at them.

"How many are they?" he put his hand on the wall near the window.

"At first we thought it was six hundred men but we were wrong it's ten thousand of them" shouted by Van. "and they even kill the wounded without any remorse," as tear continues to fall from his eye.

"That's?!" Shocked by Van's statement.

"Signal the army, now and open the gate" as he runs toward the gate's tower while grabbing his bow. "Stand your ground" as he putting the arrow on the burning brazier.

"Open Fire!!!" shouted by Van.

The traitor arrives soon arrive with shield wall formation as they greeted by a volley of burning arrow, axe, and javelin the volley managed to halt them in place before moving closer with shield wall formation but as they get nearer to the gate they made more casualties as they get closer.

"This can't be right, another sixty thousand of them is coming" shouted by one of the soldiers on the tower. "They dare to collaborate with another kingdom?! This is Treason" said Ash.

"The Lord is coming for us, hold them back" shouted by another soldier on the tower.

The traitor and the enemy started to come closer with their shield near their heads, within one meter the soldier tried to stab the enemy formation with a spear but out of his calculation, his spear was being held by the enemy shield before being stabbed back as they come closer to the gate the enemy start raising their shield while front line uses two-handed spears as they pierce the soldier to death before closing back.

--- Agus's Pov ---

Agus and the main army have started to charge as the gate was opened and what greets them was an enemy formation march closer to Van's group killing a few of his men. Agus who saw this were enraged, he quickly raises his back.

"Kill the traitorous sc.u.m, Skin them alive for their betrayal, burn them as they wail in pain. Leave none of them alive!!!" as he shouted to the formation

The enemy who heard the roar was shaking in fear and back half of the formation was broken apart and many of them started to run in fear even a few of them even peed in their pants because the fear is too strong for them.

Before the formation crash, Agus quickly pull a javelin from his back then throw it to the enemy formation which made three men died from it. With the momentum of the cavalry charge, the formation starts to break apart but still able to withstand the charge which is held by the enemy leader on the front were trampled to death followed by another twenty-three men dead.

The rest of the leader who saw it start to have doubt either to stay or leave now but without giving any chances, Van's group on the rear line already in front of them waiting for death. Returning the favor they were killed the same way as the wounded before, not giving a quick dead they were tortured by decapitating their limbs one by one.

Soon the infantry appear from the gate joining Van's group and at the same time they carry the wounded to the outer wall,

After the cavalry passes through the gate, the infantry followed suit some of them join with van's group then a few of them carry the group's wounded to the outer wall. As the soldier was regrouping suddenly a fire arrow drop right in front of them, most of the soldiers without waiting any further they run for cover or put the shield over their head.

Filling the sky covered in with a mix of black and red the sky rained with arrow waves after wave they land on the house, the street, and the corpse. The arrow even killed a nearby citizen who just by chance take peek through from the window.

After the arrow finished, the town was engulfed in flames as the wail and scream were heard across the town as the young girl cried in front of his buried parent, young man hold his dead loved one in his arms, wailing of a husband losing his wife.

Everything was heard by Agus and his men seeing this madness he almost could not endure the sorrow and even he was prepared for the wrath of his people, thought Agus was the one who torched the city to the fire as they shouted toward him in anger but seeing the soldier near him they changed mind and tried to put out the fire while helping those who are trapped or beneath the debris close to the fire.

"Tell the some of the soldiers to carry a bucket of water and throw it on the nearby unburned building to hold the fire from spreading," said Agus as he watches the burning town. "Understood, sir," as the soldier run spreading the order.

Agus tightened his grip on his horse's handle as he watches the town he meant to capture burn, his eye was no longer hatred but he gained something else.

It was Fury.
