Chapter Twelve

The Search for Yuna

Downstairs, I heard a few different voices coming from the living quarters. My head was spinning with questions and concern, and I listened to the few voices speaking before I approached downstairs.

“Yushin, you’re asking a bit much from Snow.” I heard Enoxon's voice speak. He seemed concerned but what could he possibly be concerned about? “We don’t know anything about her.”

“But I do,” Yushin empathized. “You don’t understand the situation we’re in without a Reaper or Yuna. This is important. You said it yourself, Eno, she’s not human. She saw Yuna, she was able to see the second Spirit Walker. I need her help!”

“Yushin…” Enos' voice sighed, his voice gentle. “You cannot take her with you after what happened last time. If that Demon gets her, you’ll lose all your hope. We have the Council of the Sinless guiding souls when you cannot.”

“They don’t know what they are doing, Enoxon, and you know that! Look at the state of your Underworld and their Celestial Skies. There have been more lost souls these past years than there ever has. And Yuna is missing. If we find Yuna, we find the Reaper.”

“The Reaper is Dead, Yushin, gone. No one has seen him since the disappearance of Lady Serelia. And we don’t even know where she is!”

“Her light hasn’t gone out, nor has Lord Zonoths. They’re here, somewhere,” Yushin groaned. “If we cannot find them, then who knows what the Council of the Sinless will do with the rest of the world. You’re already in chains here, on lockdown. To the human world, to her world.”

I could hear the disappointment in Enoxon’s voice as he did his best to reply to him, “I don’t know.”

Listening to their entire conversation, the thing that stuck out the most was the ‘not human part.’ Which is exactly what Kurai told me while upstairs. I’m not human, perhaps I am a sorcerer? Maybe an angel of some kind? Maybe I just have some kind of magical power. Maybe I have mixed blood or something, like a werewolf?! Do werewolves live in the underworld? Perhaps Cerberus had a hand to do in that? Possibly a vampire?! The sun never messed with me, so definitely not a vampire.

What can I possibly be? I questioned myself. I poked my hands out in front of me, examining them and frowning. Maybe if I think hard, I can conjure something. So I tried while sitting on the stairs, I tried to think of magical power, such as water. Forming a little water ball would be a good start…

Ultimately, that failed. So I tried the next element, fire. I thought of Kurai’s magical fireball and tried to copy his hand movements to make one. That didn’t work either. After I tried all four basic elements, I let out a soft breath. Of course that didn’t work. I was crazy, thinking I had some magical power that controlled an element. Could I fly? Did I have wings? I haven’t ever seen scars on my back, so I couldn’t imagine that was possible. I gave up, slumping my head on my knees.

When I heard their conversation turn silent, I continued walking downstairs and making my way into the kitchen where the two were standing. I came into contact with the Spirit Walker, his yellow eyes lighting up with delight when he saw me. A smile danced on his soft lips and he greeted me, “Hello Snow. Are you feeling better?” He asked me gently.

“Yes, thank you, Yushin. Recalling last night as best I can, you were asking for help, correct? Whatever it is, I wish to help you.”

“Snow, I don’t know if that is wise,” Enoxon quickly jumped in, reaching out to me.

I shook my head, giving Enoxon a soft and gentle gaze, “It’s ok, Enoxon. If I’m here in the Underworld, it’s for a reason. I want to go.” I understood the dangers, especially now with what Kurai had shared with me. If I can find Yuna, I can find this demon and destroy it. I can look into options to find how to destroy it, whatever I can do I want to do it. My smile was full of confidence. I could get revenge on the Demon, for my family, and Kurai’s Tribe. I needed to erase that demon from existence. If he was strong enough to wipe out an entire tribe, while also murdering my parents - I want to get rid of it. I want to watch it burn here in hell. I could make it work, one way or another. That demon will burn.

“I don’t think-“

“Nope,” I interrupted, putting my hand up to the sorcerer to stop him. “Yushin, what needs to be done?”

Yushin’s gaze lowered to mine, a bit of hope twinkling in those yellow eyes of his. A small smile played on his lips as he nodded. “There is so much we have to do, Snow,” He gently told me as he rested a hand on my shoulder and gave it a little squeeze. “I do need you to listen to Enoxon though, this is extremely dangerous with a demon who has marked you. We are entering his territory. Granted, you will have two of the most powerful magic users here in the Underworld with you.”

His words didn’t make me nervous, they didn’t make me worry. What his words did do were burn inside me with anticipation. To take out this demon and hope to build a better Underworld for those here. Not to be corrupted by some demon. Perhaps this specific demon was the one who was causing all the strange phenomenal mischief that forced the Underworld into a frozen place. Or I’ve got more to learn

“Two Powerful Magic Users?” I echoed him, glancing over at Enoxon who nodded.

The sorcerer sighed, “I couldn’t let you go off with Yushin by yourself. He’s still new to the entire Spirit Walker thing.”

“New? I’ve been a Spirit Walker for a long time,” Yushin retorted, crossing his arms while eyeing Enoxon. “It’ll be ok.”

I smiled at the two bickering and let out a soft sigh. Thinking to myself as they argued back and forth, I looked out the window over the sink.  Will it be ok though?

Nothing will hurt you. Kurai’s voice entered my head.

Spinning quickly like I had seen a ghost, I looked around the room to see if Kurai was there. He had locked gazes with me as he came strolling into the kitchen with us. When he entered the kitchen, he looked over Yushin, almost with disgust. He told me that he and Yushin had a chat the previous night over a couple of things, but perhaps they didn’t have a civil conversation. Perhaps it was more of an argument or something. When we locked eyes, I felt at ease with him, just his presence was enough to calm my nerves. I knew after he told me his history and a part of mine, knowing that my dagger connects us, it feels better.

“Sleeping beauty is awake,” Enoxon teased, smiling in Kurai’s direction.

“Shut it,” Kurai muttered, giving him a cold glare. “I’m not sure what kind of specific details you have on this, Yushin, but if anything happens to Snow, things won’t go well for you.”

Yushin simply shrugged, “I don’t make fates or choose destinies, I just help guide lost souls,” He replied to him, not raising his voice at him. “I’m no reaper.” He offered a friendly smile to him, holding out his hands as if trying to make even ground with the fox demon. “Anyway, Snow,” The spirit walker turned to me and scanned over me. “As Enoxon has stated, this isn’t going to be an easy trip. This trip will be dangerous and require a lot of attention. You will take me to where you have seen Yuna, and we’ll go from there. Perhaps there are clues there, or perhaps I can try and pull more memories from you.”

“I don’t think my memories will prove useful,” I stated, thinking about what kind of journey we would be going on. “I have no idea what happened after my blackout numerous weeks ago.”

“We could try–”

“No,” Enoxon and Kurai immediately stated, both turning a cold glare at the Spirit Walker.

“Try what?” I instantly inquired.

“Nothing at all~” Enoxon replied, smiling at me. “We’ll try our best and get started out and about. I know it isn’t supposed to be snowing in the Underworld - but it’s probably going to be a few times on our trip.”

“Snow needs to take me back to the spot where she first encountered the demon… Back to the Human World.”

“Shouldn’t we talk to Lord Mundus and Astaroth first?” Enoxon questioned him, “I honestly think we need to talk to them. Especially if traveling between the two worlds is forbidden right now.”

“Do we think it’s wise to have Mundus joining us?” Kurai questioned him.

“Lord Mundus wouldn’t go with us, if anything he sends Casielle and Zarall, or even Astaroth,” Enoxon argued.

“I’d rather none of them join us.”

“Then we need to convince them to let us visit the Sacred Halls.”

“Maybe I can talk to Astaroth,” I offered to them, remembering the conversation I had with the Duke. He knows something that I don’t, so perhaps we can make this work. I exchange knowledge and he exchanges knowledge. Easy fair trade!

Yushin nodded, “As much as I would rather not involve the Lord and the Lord's Duke, it’d be the best way to explore our options.”

“I’m still confused as to why we can’t just burn it,” I motioned to Kurai, waving my arms about to the Firefox demon.

Yushin chuckled, putting his hands out and shaking his head. “Demons do not necessarily die,” he stated. “You cannot burn them, as they technically just burn in Hell - they are immune to fire. If we can find Yuna, then she and I can work together to Banish the Demon. Some Sorcerers, such as Enoxon, can learn specific magic… Usually Dark Magic or Holy Magic-“

“Both which are impossible to learn or extremely dangerous,” Enoxon interrupted. “Holy Magic can only be taught by an Angel themself. And not just any ordinary Angel. They have to be a specific rank.”

“Such as Casielle or Zarall?” I asked him.

“Perhaps, but I am not sure,” Enoxon sighed, crossing his arms as he tried to put the pieces together. “I don’t think they would be willing to go against Michael to help us eradicate a demon, especially not right now while everything is on lockdown.”

I frowned, turning away from them. “Perhaps we can bring the Demon to Lord Mundus and he can resolve it?”

“We’ll go to the portal of the Underworld where the demon first escaped,” Yushin spoke, resolving the current conflict. “I will retrace Snow's memories there.”

“The last time you retraced her memories, that demon interrupted,” Kurai snapped at him, narrowing amber eyes on the Spirit Walker.

“Most likely because the demon was nearby. Perhaps he won’t be nearby this time,” Yushin calmly explained to him, tone low and not engaged with his attitude.

“I’m not letting you retrace her memory,” his voice was full of anger, fists clenching.

“Kurai, that’s not your choice,” Yushin sighed, lowering his gaze downwards in my direction, raven-black hair flowing gently in his eyes. “Besides, Snow said she wanted to help.”

“If we retrace the Memory, we can get a little bit more of a clue as to where Yuna may have been. I don’t think I saw her in the first demon attack, but we can try for sure,” I smiled willingly at the young Spirit Walker.

Yushin nodded at me, his lips playing a very sly and small smile. He was calm like he had nothing to worry about. Rather serious for who he was, the Spirit Walker seemed to have his nice side as well. His gentle smile struck me as someone who has been through a lot, and I’m sure he has been. He was a spirit, Walker. I don’t know anything of his history, but remembering what Enoxon stated, he knew Yushin way before he was a Spirit Walker.

I returned his friendly smile, knowing that I was getting involved a lot. I was ready for it. Confidence surged through the home. One thing at a time. “Enoxon, can you take us to Abigail’s Tree?” I turned towards the Sorcerer who’s been rather quiet. When I turned my attention to him, he seemed rather annoyed or worried. I couldn’t tell, but his stance made me feel off about him. Enoxon usually was an outgoing person, but he was extremely quiet this go round. He was even staring off into space, which was not like him at all.

“Enoxon?” I questioned him.

He shot his head back up to face me, “Hm? Oh. Yeah, I can do that,” he replied as he gently grabbed my arm to guide me to ensure I didn’t fall. Within a few seconds, he teleported all four of us.

The teleportation magic worked a bit differently than Kurai’s. We didn’t have portals to walk through, he just, literally “ding”, and were in a different area. It seemed a lot more simple than Kurai’s teleportation portal use. Even within his teleportation, it was almost like a space area. But with Eno, a snap of the fingers and were there.

We landed gently in an open clearing, Enoxon steadying me to ensure I didn’t fall over. He patted the upper of my back and smiled. “Glad to see you’re ok,” he murmured to me.

I nodded, “Thank you for bringing us here.”

The clearing we were brought to was a large, open clearing surrounded by snow and grass spots. Not too far ahead, I could see something of a light glowing color, something faint - but with a red tinge. I looked ahead of us, which was a small and narrow path surrounded by overhanging tree branches. It was dark, as usual, with the moon reflecting down on the surrounding areas causing a slight glow to bounce back up. Somehow, this place felt familiar even though I’d never seen it before. I didn’t even feel cold, just a warmth flowing through me.

“Welcome to Abigail’s Tree, M’lady,” Yushin introduced. “Right around this tree is one of the 13 most important Spirit Portals, so please, be careful.” With a slight bow, he pulled back some moss that hung over the clearing and offered me to go through.

“Thank you,” I replied, taking a few steps forward to the moss. On the other side of the moss, what lay out in front of me was something large and nothing I’d ever seen. I stared in awe. This was amazing.

In front of us was a huge, and I mean huge, gorgeous tree. With branches and leaves that had a red tint-glow to it, it stood tall and wide. The tree itself gave off an immense red glow, that lit up like the moon above us. Leaves and flowers that were red, large brown roots that appeared out of the ground, and surrounding the tree was a slim black gate with little birds on it. Outside the tree and gate was a large body of water with flowers floating in it from the tree, trickling from the middle of the water to the edge. It was gorgeous and didn’t seem at all like an underworld tree that I’d consider dead and just mush. This was indeed a very interesting place.

“Let’s go! I want to see everything! This is so amazing! Look at how pretty this is! Eno, Kurai, loooooooook!!!!!!” I was as excited as a little girl going to the fair. I’m sure my eyes were just twinkling with joy because my body was ready to explore - even though I completely forgot that I was here on a job. I ran up the little path that led to the tree and waited patiently for everyone.

Strolling down the path came Yushin first, who was watching me out of amusement. I could see him hiding a chuckle, but he probably didn’t get to see a lot of excited humans - I’m sure none of them did. “We call it the Soul Tree. You call it Abigail’s Tree, as all humans do. When we cross the river, you and I will enter through the gates but just to the other side. As of right now, all of our gates have been disconnected, unfortunately, as The Council of the Sinless takes care of souls.” He explained to me, gently as he fell into step beside me.

“Who is the Council of the Sinless anyway?” I asked him, looking around the lake for means of transportation. I remember numerous people bringing them up, but not very often. I assumed they were a group of angels but if we had Spirit Walkers, why do they need to direct souls?

As I expected, Yushin answered my question, “They are a group of Angels - yes. These aren’t just ordinary angels though. They are some of the strongest, most well-known angels. After the Seven Brothers fell, the Council of the Sinless took over to ensure a repeat of the Seven Brothers didn't happen,” he explained to me, gazing around the lake. “Now, there is usually a courier here…” he murmured, walking off to the side.

“Snow,” Enoxon’s voice sounded from behind me, as his hand rested on my shoulder. He very quietly came up beside me and kept his voice low. “Please be careful, Snow. If you do not feel comfortable, I will know. I will force Yushin to release your Spirit if you do not ask him to.” The man locked gazes at me, “You will not need to worry, I will know.”

I glanced over my shoulder at the Sorcerer. Why was he so off? He seemed like he was nervous about something. Thinking back to the conversation I was eavesdropping on, my smile quickly faded away. “Enoxon, I know you’re worried. But it will be ok, I promise!” I tried my best to reassure him.

“Regardless, I will force Yushin to pull you out if I have to, one wrong move and it will happen,” he told me, waving off my reassurance.

I couldn’t help but feel a little sad as he said that. But I know he’s just looking out for me. “Thank you, Eno. I appreciate it.”

Kurai joined us at the top as Yushin found the courier who carries souls across this lake area from the portal. The courier looked like someone dressed in solid black, face covered, and was holding a stick-like paddle. This person didn't speak to us, just motioned for the five of us to get on. Honestly, that was a bit creepy. I know the underworld has a few different guiding souls because I can’t imagine they all come flowing through the same portal. Why 13 portals though? Perhaps different areas of the world or maybe different levels into The Underworld? I shrugged off the thought as Yushin held out his hand to escort me into the boat.

“I wish souls were as easy and willing as you, Snow,” he commented. “I am grateful I get a lot of easy souls, and Yuna rather complicated souls.. but if they could all just accept their fate,” the Spirit Walker sighed.

“Do souls… ever try to escape you?” I asked, taking his hand as he escorted me onto the little wooden boat. As soon as my hand touched his, I could feel a twist of guilt coming from my fox demon. I glanced over my shoulder and noticed he looked as mopey as Enoxon did. Yushin wrapped his hand around mine and helped me onto the boat, steadying me as he did so to ensure I didn’t fall. The little wooden boat rocked at first, causing me to have to catch my balance but with Yushin’s help, I was able to stay tall. I gently took my seat into the wooden boat and a deep breath escaped me.

What was weird though was Yushin’s hands didn’t feel solid. They almost felt like they were a bit… not fuzzy, but tingly. Like, I could just reach straight through his hand. But to watch as his hand gripped around mine made me just double-take. Perhaps being a Spirit Walker, he was a ghost-like spirit. It felt odd. What was more odd though was the amount of disgust and jealousy I could feel from Kurai. All his emotions flowed to me, taking over my feelings. I tried my best to ignore them but for some reason, I couldn’t. My gut was twisting and prodding as I thought about it.

“Do souls try to run? Some do, thus why Yuna chases them, she is faster than I am and will take the souls to where they are needing to go. Some souls rest easily while others do not. It all depends. However, since the portals were closed, we do not get many souls… I’ve been so bored without them,” Yushin sighed as he sat beside me. The Spirit Walker gazed over to the tree across the lake, taking in the beautiful sighting.

“Ah, so both guide souls, with the help of the Reaper? Correct?” I asked him, following the gaze off to the distance of the tree.

Enoxon and Kurai sat across from us, both watching Yushin intently, looking rather annoyed.

“That’s correct,” Yushin nodded, as our guide pushed us away from the deck and off towards the large spirit tree. “The Reaper helps a lot of lost souls and often can help them back to the Celestials if they decide they are worthy of their judgment. The Reaper is also there to help calm Demons, as they are of a high ranking and can soothe them well. Or if anything, the banishment of a demon or a lost soul.” He explained to me, his yellow eyes returning to me. “With that being so, they play an extremely important part and can even provide life and take life, they are very important.”

“And there is only one?”

He nodded again, “Yes. The Council of the Sinless is only guiding souls because we don’t have a Reaper…” he trailed off, his voice suddenly turning bitter. “If only they didn’t lock her up.”

“What?” I questioned almost immediately.

“Yushin, stop,” Enoxon sighed, glaring at him. “We don’t know anything of what the Council did. You cannot go around accusing them like that. Especially as a Spirit Walker.” His voice was rather dark as if he didn’t like the idea of Yuna being in trouble.

The Spirit Walker lowered his head, eyes glazing over. “You’re right,” he murmured. “I just… If we find Yuna, we find the Reaper. If we find the Reaper, I can get back to my job and do what I’m supposed to do. I didn’t get to be around the last Reaper very much.” Shifting his feet, Yushin looked back to the tree that we were approaching. “I want to know what happened to them. I cannot even find their candle…” He murmured.

“Exit…” The guide's creepy voice sounded as we approached another dock, on the other side and under the tree.

My eyes lit up again like a firework on the 4th of July and I watched those twinkling red lights with glee. They were so pretty, so magical. I stood up, not paying attention to where I was going, and tripped on the side of the boat and fell forward on the dock.

I could feel Kurai’s warm body reach out to catch me, “Watch where you’re going,” he murmured over to me.

“Come on Snow,” Enoxon also spoke, helping me from behind and guiding me out by watching my feet. “Please be careful.”

I said thank you to both of them, embarrassed as my cheeks flushed. Stepping onto the deck, I felt a strong presence from the area. It was like a surge of magic that swarmed through me. Everything felt extremely weird like the atmosphere had completely changed. I couldn’t describe it, but it was different. It wasn’t like that of the boat's atmosphere or the underworld's mainland. My heartbeat felt like it had slowed like it had completely changed to match the powerful area. I couldn’t see anything, but I was able to hear little whispers. Of course, I couldn’t make any of the words out, but it just sounded like whispers. Perhaps there were souls here that I couldn’t see.

I guess my change in posture and attitude alerted the guys because Enoxon immediately lifted my arm over his shoulder to help me. “Are you ok?” He questioned me.

“Things just feel weird,” I replied to him, “But I feel fine, thank you.”

“Being this is a powerful source of Magic, and you are not used to it, perhaps that is why. Maybe being a human also has something to do with it,” he replied to me.

“Humans do not ever travel to the Gates of The Underworld,” Yushin pointed out.

“I feel fine,” Kurai stated, coming on the other side of me.

“You’re a demon,” Yushin retorted, glaring in his direction. “Not a human.” A slight furrow between his brows as he stared pointedly at Kurai, and with an icy cold gaze.

Kurai shook his head in frustration, pinching his brows, and growled, “I’m not a full demon.”

I butted in, trying to disperse their argument and getting between them, “So what are we need to do, Yushin?”

Yushin’s tone of voice completely changed when I stepped between them. “Yes, of course,” he started, “You and I will be entering the deactivated portal to get the memory clear. Here, we will find the first step to locating Yuna and the demon that attacked you.”

“Do we need to do anything to prepare?” I asked.

He shook his head and looked back to the tree, the red glowing light reflecting off his face as he stared up at the massive tree. “Just need this to go smoothly,” he told me. “Come with me, Snow. Enoxon and Kurai will stand guard and interrupt if needed.”

Enoxon and Kurai exchanged glances before the four of us stepped towards the tree, making our way up to the narrow and broken cobble path that guided us up to the roots of the tree. At the top of the path was where the black-colored, raven-decorated fence sat. It looked rather old like it had been there for a long time. Yushin led me towards the extra large tree up another small flight of stairs. At the top of the stairs sat a half-round circle made from stone with words written across it. Surprisingly, the words came out clearly to me, “Gates of the Underworld - The Spirit Tree.” But it was written in a different language. Perhaps I’d seen this somewhere in a book but I knew exactly what it had said. Underneath the half-circle stone sat an opening that remained dark, as if I couldn’t see the other side. Yushin and I stopped in front of the portal gate and I stared through it. The portal was empty, nothing through to the other side but a bunch of darkness from the tree roots keeping it covered. I wonder what an activated portal looks like.

I approached the stone a bit more, running my fingers alongside the ancient writing that read what it did. I took in the feels of every crevice that lined the portal walls, and I nodded. It felt cold, like the snow. I’m not sure how portals felt, or if they were supposed to be warm but this one felt cold. I turned around to face Enoxon and Kurai, putting my hands together in front of me and smiling brightly. “Wish me luck, I know it’s not much but this is a start!” I then waved to them and made my way through the portal, Yushin following closely behind.

After Snow and Yushin disappeared through the portal, Enoxon and Kurai were left alone outside the portal. Arms crossed, and eyes scanning the clearing like they were guards, anyone could tell that the two of them were agitated. Kurai’s mind roamed back and forth between Snow and what he had shared with her this morning. To his surprise, she took it rather well. The tears were going to happen, he knew that. Anger and embarrassment coursed through him as he remembered how sad she looked when he told her the story. He had only just discovered after researching with Enoxon regarding the dagger that he would consistently take overnight from her to examine. It was a special dagger.

“How was Snow this morning?” Enoxon asked him, gazing over at the fox demon.

Kurai glanced out of the corner of his eye at him and he shrugged in response, quietly responding, “She seemed to be understanding.”

Enoxon nodded, shifting from one foot to the other. “I fear what it turns into,” He responded, letting out a soft sigh. “Knowing this demon was the same one that eradicated your village proves a very strong foe.”

“Doesn’t matter. Removing the demon from existence doesn’t fix anything. She’ll be marked by another demon,” Kurai stated bluntly.

“With the research, we’ve done and uncovered, we already know she’s not a human. She’s not of demon blood or angel blood,” The sorcerer sighed, beginning to pace back and forth in the snow. So what was it? He questioned himself as he tried to think of what this human could be. Being almost immortal, Enoxon has seen a lot of different beings in the world. From centaurs to pixies, to griffins… There have been so many different beings. Kurai confirmed to him that Snow wasn’t any of those, nothing that he’s seen before. But… It worried him. Why was she such a high target? Surely it’s not just because her parents were high-ranking sorcerers. Ren & Sayuri we’re amazing sorcerers. He has heard stories but never had the opportunity to meet them because they decided to retire into the human world. When Enoxon heard about the story regarding that dagger, he immediately began to research it. He found an old story regarding a stone connecting a Kitsune and from there, he began connecting dots.

“She shared with me that she could feel my emotions,” Kurai stated.

“If you are her guardian, that is common. You said it yourself, it’s similar to being in a pact with a human - a pact that you didn’t agree to. Overall, you are connected with this girl,” He explained to him. “Like an angel,” He commented.

“Gross,” Kurai muttered, turning away and looking out into the snowy drift of the forest. His amber eyes gazed around as if he were trying to search for trouble. But the silence and the snow were still, nothing moved and nothing stirred. Glancing over his shoulder into the portal doors, he could barely see the outline of his companions. Worrisome washed over him as he watched any movement from them, but like the Underworld forest on the other side of the lake, it was still. Still and quiet. Questioning their presence, he turned away and poked his head further into the doorway. On the other side of the doorway, Snow and Yushin were sitting still with hands in each other's, roaming the memory. Did they have to hold each other's hands? Slyly, the fox-demon entered the portal and removed their hands, not knowing what it could have possibly done.

But as he did so, a bright blue light appeared from within the portal, and the girl's body began to blow extremely brightly - so bright to the point that Kurai had to look away.

“What is happening?” Enoxons voice sounded as a roaring noise began to sound within the portal. “Kurai, what the hell did you do?!” He snapped at him.

“What did I do? What did he do!!” He howled over the roaring sound and light.

Enoxon’s eyes grew wide, and he stepped backward. He stared at the bright blue light in awe, wondering what could have possibly happened. Glancing at the stand-alone Snow just barely, he noticed that the connection between the Spirit Walker and the girl has been disconnected. Instantly, he knew what was happening.

The light swirled, blinding Enoxon and Kurai and forcing them to take a step back as well. There would be no way he could grab Snow fast enough, but he certainly tried. He shoved Kurai out of the way and went to reach for Snow, but it was too late. The portal light grew so bright and hot, that the activation pulse of the portal shoved him and Kurai back, knocking them onto their backs. The light streamed out of the tree, causing the leaves and branches to turn from maroon red to a bright blue. The portal had been activated. They were going to be teleported elsewhere.

How did she activate the portal again? Enoxon questioned it. Never had he seen a human activate the portal, but if he didn’t know what this woman was, how could he pinpoint from here? Who even knew where she was going to be teleported to? What if she were teleported into a dangerous part of the human world, or even into another magic realm that wasn’t friendly to demons? And what about Yushin?! He may be a spirit Walker, but one has never stepped foot into the Human Realm before! How would this react?! How would Mundus react…. Even Micahel? He couldn’t feel anything but fear for Snow, Yushin, and the rest of the Underworld.
