The wind on the yard howled, rolling the sand and the roots of a tree, piercing through a person’s body.

Bian Nan pulled his hat down to his nose and his collar up to his head. But he was hit so hard that he could barely open his eyes, and could even feel the sand in his mouth.

“Fuck me today… It’s smog again!” Behind him, Wan Fei spat on the ground and cursed breathlessly.

“Smog, your uncle! This is a sandstorm,” Bian Nan frowned. “See the PM25 all over the sky, it’s a pot of sour and spicy soup.”

“Fuck, why don’t those idiots from the volleyball class have to run!” Wan Fei turned his head and saw a few people squatting by the side of the playground, watching the commotion.

“Because those idiots didn’t get caught climbing over the wall,” Bian Nan turned around and ran back a few steps, reaching out to slap Wan Fei’s head, “You look like a little old lady, can’t climb over the wall even after two hundred years. We might as well be fools.”

“Damn, that’s… a coincidence… okay!” Wan Fei was very dissatisfied and wanted to say a few more words when he saw a blue figure coming out of the gymnasium. He quickly pushed Bian Nan, “Lao Jiang, Lao Jiang, Lao Jiang is coming out…”

Bian Nan quickly turned around and ran forward, taking in mouthfuls of sand dedicatedly.

Lao Jiang was their tennis class coach. He was the most brutal coach in Sports School, so brutal that they didn’t even dare give him a nickname.

“Bian Nan is three kilometres away!” Lao Jiang walked to the edge of the runway and roared at Bian Nan, who had run past him.

“Fuck me.” As soon as Bian Nan heard this, he almost staggered to the ground.

“What about me?” Wan Fei asked.

“You can run with him if you like. Aren’t you two buy one get one free?” Lao Jiang said coldly.

“First… tear it down…” Wan Fei panted heavily.

“You useless thing,” Bian Nan laughed.

“I’m exhausted…who…who’s giving…you a massage?”

After Wan Fei finished his lap, Lao Jiang squatted down beside him.

Bian Nan continued to run for the remaining three kilometres against the sand, feeling as though the muscles in his legs were screaming in accusation at the small-feet-old-lady Wan Fei. If it weren’t for Wan Fei’s pants that got hooked on a nail while climbing the wall last night, they wouldn’t have been caught by Lao Jiang on the spot.

A penalty of five kilometres plus three kilometres was nothing for Bian Nan, but it felt a little inhumane since it was right after an afternoon of physical training when he felt so tired that his tongue had spat out.

After speeding up for the last three kilometres, Bian Nan stood in front of Lao Jiang. Leaning over and propping his knees, he asked, “Is this enough?”

“Carry on at night and be persistent,” Lao Jiang looked at him expressionlessly, turned, and walked away.

By the time they returned to their dormitory, it was already dinner-time and their dormitory was deserted. Bian Nan removed his clothes and lied on the bed, instructing Wan Fei, “Quick, come massage this Young Master’s legs.”

Still in his clothes, Wan Fei lied on his bed motionlessly

“Dead already?” Bian Nan grabbed a pillow and threw it the other’s way.

The pillow dropped on Wan Fei’s head and he sighed, “About to die.”

“Come and massage my legs before dying,” said Bian Nan.

“Can’t you give a good impression to a dying person?” Wan Fei dragged his voice, still lying on the bed, “Better to become a ghost and let you off.”

“Trash, you’re of no use,” Bian Nan sighed and jumped out of bed, walking towards Wan Fei. He raised his foot to step on the other’s ass, “Should I step on it for you?”

“Ah…Ah…feels good…” Wan Fei moaned exaggeratedly. “Master go up a little more, two feet from the waist.”

The mobile phone in Bian Nan’s pocket rang. He took out the phone, moved his foot up to Wan Fei’s waist and stepped on it, “Remember my great act of kindness or not?”

“I’ll remember, I’ll remember…” Wan Fei kept humming.

He had received a text message on the phone. The contact was saved as ‘Aunt Lin’; this person was his father’s wife, his stepmother.

The text had only four words—Coming back this week?

Bian Nan frowned and quickly replied—Not coming.

Wan Fei grunted at his feet and kept talking, “I want to say that my brother Nan, who is good-looking, has a great body, and can step on my back… temper… his temper… his temper towards beautiful women isn’t bad, so why do you say you just…”

Bei Nan stopped moving at once and raised his eyebrows, “Just what?”

“It’s nothing, don’t stop ah,” Wan Fei touched his calf a few times with the back of his hands, “Go on.”

“Just fucking what?” Bian Nan kicked Wan Fei’s waist.

“Hey!” Wan Fei held his waist and turned his face to yell, “What are you doing! I just said why can’t you chase Zhang…”

“The hell I can’t chase!” Bian Nan kicked him in the ass. He knew that Wan Fei was talking about Zhang Xiaorong.

“Ah–” Wan Fei shouted again. As if in a paraplegic1 shock, he rolled back on the bed with his crotch in his hand. “I’m fucking crushed!”

“Did your balls grow on your ass2?” Bian Nan ignored him. He opened the closet, took out his clothes, threw them on his shoulder and prepared to take a bath. Thinking about it, he said, “Could it be haemorrhoids…”

“Hemorrhoids, your sister! Why don’t you lie down and let me step on it!” Wan Fei jumped down from the bed and pounced over to drag Bian Nan.

“Okay, okay. I was wrong,” Bian Nan opened the dormitory door and ran out. “I know you have ostrich eggs3.”

“Fuck off! Even pigeon eggs can be fucking stepped on!” Wan Fei shouted at the door. “Wait for me, I’ll take a bath!”

Bian Nan looked back at him and put his hands on his waist. He picked up the clothes and ran a few steps forward, “You come after me, come chase me…”

The door of the nearby dormitory opened, and Wang Bo came out with a lunch box in his hand. Seeing him, he choked, “Shit, isn’t it too cold to be naked just after the New Year? You are still so lively even after running 20 kilometres!!”

“For another 20 kilometres, I can still go to the square for a rural hip-hop dance,” Bian Nan snatched a piece of meat from his lunch box, put it into his mouth, and turned back to shout at Wan Fei, “Hurry up! Fight for your shit4!”

Wan Fei grabbed his clothes and ran over. He also snatched a green vegetable from Wang Bo’s lunch box, “Bo Bo, do you eat shit?”

Wang Bo fastened the lid of the lunch box, “It’s not over, is it!”

The bathroom was deserted. Bian Nan took the water card5 and inserted it. He stripped off and stood under the shower to take a bath.

Hot water poured over his body, making him feel quite comfortable. With his face tilted, he let the water run for a long time before feeling for the body wash with his eyes closed.

Reaching out, Wan Fei handed the body wash to him.

“Shit, So attentive!” He opened one eye to look at Wan Fei and said, “Is your water card empty again?”

“No!” Wan Fei tsked, stopped and sighed, “But it’ll be empty soon…”

“Go and top up the money!” Bian Nan stood to wipe the body wash and handed over the nozzle to Wan Fei.

“I don’t have money to refill,” Wan Fei said a little depressed.

“Where did you spend all your money? You don’t smoke, drink, play cards or pick up girls…” Bian Nan counted off one after another and thought Wan Fei could be regarded as the moral role model of their tennis class.

“Who said I don’t pick up girls!” Wan Fei interrupted him. “I want to save money to buy some gifts for Xu Rui.”

“Her birthday?” Bian Nan pushed him away and stood under the shower.

“Mn, by the way, where did you buy the chain you had bought for Zhang Xiaorong last time…” Wan Fei shut up halfway. “Forget it, that’s too expensive.”

“If you want it, I’ll give it to you,” Bian Nan said.

On Zhang Xiaorong’s birthday last month, he had bought her a necklace, but she hadn’t accepted it. He didn’t even have a chance to put in the effort; she had blocked his WeChat and QQ for half a month.

The necklace was still lying in the cabinet, singing sad love songs.

“Forget it. If Zhang Xiaorong sees it and asks if this is the necklace she didn’t want from last month, I’ll be ruined,” Wan Fei shook his head. “What a pity, it’s very expensive. Why don’t you keep it? Next time, give it to me when I get a girl who isn’t from Med School…”

“Zhang Xiaorong didn’t even look at my face that day, let alone the necklace.” Bian Nan turned off the faucet, laughing. Standing aside, he took a towel and wiped the water off himself.

“Didn’t even look at such a handsome face,” Wan Fei looked at him. “Does that make you sad?”

“It does,” Bian Nan nodded, “Why is it so difficult to pick up a girl like her? Should have changed to someone else earlier.”

“Because,” Wan Fei hesitated and turned off the water, “Your opponent is too strong.”

“Opponent?” Bian Nan was stunned. “I still have an opponent? Why don’t I know about this.”

“You’ve gotten too used to it. A girl only has to wave, and you head over. When chasing Zhang Xiaorong, you fished for three days, dried the net for two days, the heart can’t even budge. You wouldn’t even have figured out about the enemy…”

“Don’t spew bullshit!” Bian Nan impatiently interrupted Wan Fei. He had been chasing Zhang Xiaorong for two months, but he really didn’t know that he had an opponent too.

“Don’t you know who Zhang Xiaorong went out with on her birthday?” When Bian Nan directly pulled out the towel from his back, Wan Fei covered his back and shouted, “Ah! Qiu Yi! Qiu Yi! “

“Who? Autumn clothes6? I still have autumn pants!” Bian Nan had no impression of the name, so he slapped Wan Fei’s ass again, “Who’s Qiu Yi?”

“Fuck, be gentle!” Wan Fei covered his ass, ” The second year from Hang Yun, he was quite arrogant last semester. Haven’t you heard of it?”

Bian Nan shook the towel. Wan Fei quickly dodged. As soon as he took his hand back, the towel pulled out a loud sound in the air.

“I thought you knew,” Wan Fei added, staring at his face.

Bian Nan didn’t speak, his face a little ugly.

In this pseudo-urban-rural fringe where birds didn’t shit and cats didn’t sleep at night, it was said that it will develop into another urban centre within ten years. In fact, it is not far from the urban district. But it has already been five years, and only two buses are accessible to the urban-rural ministry. The tradition of students from Sports School and Hang Yun Secondary School not getting along has been maintained for many years.

This area only had three schools.

Sports School, Hang Yun Secondary School and Med School.

Many beautiful girls attended Med School. The remaining two schools were full of hormones7.

There were a few girls in Sports School, and half of them were stronger than the boys. Therefore, almost all the boys with endocrine disorders who resist fast in this “second city centre” have been targeting the soft girls in the Med School.

Usually, the two schools would eat night snacks, occupy internet cafes, and wouldn’t see eye to eye when walking down the streets, leading to constant conflicts. Adding to the problem of fighting for girls, their relationship in recent years has simply been incompatible

Bian Nan had been in Sports School since junior high school, so regarding the gratuities and grudges held here that were enough to write a book, he was well aware of.

As soon as he heard Qiu Yi was from Hang Yun, his heart immediately stilled.

“Fuck,” he simply summed up his mood by one word, took his clothes and put them on.

“There’s something else, want to listen?” Wan Fei asked as he put on his pants.

Bian Nan looked at him without making a sound. After Wan Fei dressed up, they went out of the bathroom. Quietly on one side, Wan Fei turned into a news broadcast player. “I heard that this boy is quite arrogant. Hang Yun is huge, and wasn’t there a continuous war after graduation? He was only there for half a semester and had already put things in order…”

“What does that have to do with me?” Bian Nan glanced at him.

“Okay, okay. I’ll say something that has something to do with you. I didn’t dare tell you this before; just figured you’d find out for yourself,” Wan Fei paused and waited for Bian Nan’s response. When Bian Nan didn’t say a word, he cleared his throat and continued, “I heard, I just heard okay, that Zhang Xiaorong is chasing him.”

Bian Nan kicked the dormitory door. It hit the wall with a loud bang. The crack in the door panel that had been trying to open up became even wider.

Sun Yifan and Zhu Bin, who were standing in front of the window, were startled. Sun Yifan threw the orange in his hand at Bian Nan: “Are you sick! Take some medicine!”

“Are you two in love?” Bian Nan caught the orange, peeled and chewed it. “Let’s see you kiss.”

“You two are quite lively,” Sun Yifan came up to Bian Nan and stared at him for a while. “Lao Jiang didn’t kill you both?”

“Wanna go out tonight?” Bian Nan stuffed his changed clothes into the plastic bag and threw them into the cabinet.

“No, Lao Jiang just caught you and you still wanna go?” Zhu Bin shook his head.

The semi-confined management of Sports School usually did not allow students to go out. They could only go out for a while on weekends, but at night, a few would go out for a little freedom, night snacks and internet cafes.

“Can he catch us every day?” Bian Nan casually lied in bed. In fact, people were rarely caught in school. If one really wanted to catch anyone, they would be able to sweep a basket of people at the internet cafe in one go. “I still haven’t eaten yet.”

“I wouldn’t have been caught if my pants hadn’t been hooked!” Wan Fei was a little annoyed about the broken nail on the wall.

“That’s right, I’m not gonna wear my pants tonight,” Bian Nan took out his mobile phone and looked at it. Aunt Lin had sent him another text message—Let Lao Wu send you your clothes tomorrow.

Bian Nan looked at the date and didn’t reply to the text message. He thought Aunt Lin probably hoped he would not go home.

Bian Nan was hungry and tired; he hadn’t eaten lunch. He wasn’t in the mood when he came to play cards in the dormitory next door, just listening to music while wearing headphones, lying on the bed.

It wasn’t until after nine o’clock that he pulled Wan Fei out of the dormitory. They went out from the bathroom window on the third floor and slipped along the sewer pipe to the back of the building.

The school wall of more than two meters high was meaningless to the group of Sports School students; they could climb in just two steps.

When Bian Nan jumped over the wall, he found several people squatting under it. When he went down, he almost stepped over a few peoples’ heads.

“Shit, who picked such a place to jump!” the squatting man jumped up.

“Me,” Bian Nan answered and saw that this was Pan Yifeng from the basketball class. The others were also quite familiar. They were all experts in the basketball and the volleyball class.

Wan Fei also jumped down behind him, “Yo, where’s the meeting?”

“Where are you two going?” Pan Yifeng asked.

“To find something to eat.” Bian Nan pulled his collar.

He knew that Pan Yifeng and his gang would not be chatting here. They didn’t talk much and planned to leave directly.

Although he was not an honest student and fought more seriously than he did in training classes, he didn’t want to get into trouble just after being punished by Lao Jiang.

But after taking only one step, Pan Yifeng stopped him, “Bian Nan, you two come and help later.”

“Where?” Bian Nan stopped. Pan Yifeng had opened his mouth, so he couldn’t just leave anymore.

Hang Yun usually never considered finishing off without a boss. Sports School was different, they are all trained; a gang of pricks refuse to comply with each other, often don’t see eye to eye, but are still able to band together at critical moments.

“Holly Internet cafe,” Pan Yifeng looked down at his mobile phone, “10:30.”

“Annihilate whom?” Wan Fei asked further.

“Qiu Yi,” said Pan Yifeng.
