57. Eavesdropping in a Raining Night

Translator: Storm in a Teacup

While she was absorbed in the rain, a hand suddenly waved in front of her eyes, “What are you looking at?”

She turned back and found Chu Jianmo looking at her with his eyebrows raised. She somehow had a feeling that she could fall into his amorous eyes easily.

After dreaming in a daze for a second, she finally came back to her mind and shook her head immediately, “Nothing at all.”

Chu Jianmo caressed her head intimately, and he suddenly remembered why he came to Helian Chacha, “Alright, there is a stone bed inside, where you can put up tonight. Come and have a look.”

Then, before the response of Helian Chacha, he took her to go inside.

Meanwhile, the coachman was making the stone bed with some straws.

She went up to it happily, “It looks quite warm.”

‘Except for feeling a little prickly.’

Chu Jianmo nodded as well, “It is not as warm as your beddings, but at least better than nothing. Please just go with what we have right now, and we will be able to stay in an inn tomorrow.”

After introducing the bed for tonight, he took Helian Chacha to the right side and pointed at the corner, saying, “We have searched the temple and found some firewood in the corner, so we can warm ourselves by the fire later.”

Later on, he showed Helian Chacha something else in this place, such as the figure of the buddha with broken hands, a missing window screen, and two futons on the ground which could be used to keep both of them warm at night.

Their coming brought a hint of vitality to this cold and dilapidated temple.

Walking around with her hand in Chu Jianmo’s, Helian Chacha felt like a peach blossom bursting into bloom in her heart.

She did have a crush on Chu Jianmo, but that affection never touched the innermost core of her heart. While now, it seemed that she fell head over heels for this man.

Even if he was no longer the son of the general, even if he had nothing at all ever since, and even if they had to bear the criticism and disdain for the whole life, she would love to be with him in her entire life until death took them apart.

As she was immersed in her thoughts, Chu Jianmo said, “Qinyuan…”

Right after that, he stopped for a second and looked at her affectionately, “Or…Can I call you Siluan?”

Siluan?

This strange yet familiar name gave Helian Chacha a shock and she suddenly woke up vigilantly from her sweet dreams.

‘Why would he know the original name of this body? Did it mean that he was connected to that mysterious organization?’

She took a step back subconsciously.

Seeing her eyes filled with vigilance, a smidgen of sorrow flashed across in Chu Jianmo’s eyes.

He took a step up, “Siluan, don’t be afraid.”

Helian Chacha took a step back instead. Realizing she was reluctant to be close to him, Chu Jianmo gave up going forward and just looked at her firmly instead, “The first time I saw you in the imperial palace, I recognized you. You are Siluan without doubt. But… it seems that you have forgotten the past, so Iwas afraid to get you into trouble by telling you the truth abruptly. That was why I kept pretending that I didn’t know you so as to help you escape from the imperial palace secretly…”

His speech made Helian Chacha fall into her memories.

Indeed, the first time to meet him in the imperial garden, he gave her a bottle of precious wound medicine; for the second time, they had a small talk; for the third time, he saved her life. None of these were something he would do for a black stranger.

She looked at Chu Jianmo with confusion in her eyes, “Did we…know each other before?”

“Of course. We used to be really close friends.” Chu Jianmo thought she recalled something, so he went to her excitedly, only to find that her eyes were full of strangeness.

“Don’t you remember?”

Helian Chacha was afraid that Chu Jianmo might be able to tell that she was a fake one, so she could only lie to him, “I…I forgot about that…”

Chu Jianmo wasn’t surprised. After all, he had been with her for a long time, and she had always been like that.

He tapped the shoulders of Helian Chacha with a smile and said, “No worries. It will come to your mind bit by bit later. When we get farther and find a safe place to settle down. Then we will be able to start a new life.”

She smiled slightly and nodded, “By then I will go to work to earn some money and open a martial arts center.”

“Why a martial arts center?”

“Because I can do martial arts.” She showed some moves in front of Chu Jianmo, “I wish more and more people can pick up martial arts to protect themselves as well as people they care.”

“I bet your dream will come true.”

They talked randomly in the hall, and Helian Chacha felt a bit sleepy as the time went by. Seeing her keep yawning, Chu Jianmo told her to sleep inside.

It was a little nippy, so the coachman and Chu Jianmo set on a fire with the wood outside, which made Helian Chacha feel slightly warm from the inside as well.

The raindrops were pattering on the tiles, and the wind was howling outside. Under the noisy circumstance, Helian Chacha fell asleep slowly without being haunted by dreams throughout the night. Not knowing how long it had been, she was awakened by the noise of footsteps.

“Who are you?”

Chu Jianmo’s voice? What happened outside?

The moment she was about to stand up, a hoarse voice was from the outside, “Don’t be nervous, Your Highness. The Empress Dowager sent us to protect you. Didn’t you know that someone has been following you?”

Right after that, the man continued, “Bring him up.”

‘Your Highness? Whom is that man talking to? Is the coachman actually a long-lost prince from a kingdom?’

She got out of the bed gingerly and moved to the back the figure of the buddha, listening to what’s happening outside quietly.

Soon, someone seemed to be dragged in.

“The imperial guardian?” Chu Jianm asked coldly. “Ye Shengxuan’s men have caught up?”

“Let him speak,” that hoarse voice came out again.

Right after the rustling, there came out an angry shout, “Chu Jianmo, you won’t be able to flee from here. His Majesty has already ordered the entire kingdom to arrest you. Even if you run to the remotest corners of the world, His Majesty will still dig you out.”

‘What? Ye Shengxuan has issued an order for arrest?’

At that moment, she heard the sound of the sword coming out of its sheath. Then, with the sound of pricking, the man seemed to be stabbed.

“Chu… Chu Jianmo…Her Highness…You shouldn’t have touched Her Highness…His Majesty will get you…”

Poof—

Another stabbing.

Helian Chacha covered her mouth in panic with fear flickering in her eyes. ‘Why is that gentleman actually a devil who kills people without batting an eye like that!’

“Full of crap.” Chu Jianmo seemed to throw the sword on the ground as there came the sound of a weapon falling down to the floor. “Next time you see such lousy person, just kill him. No bother to bring him to me.”

That hoarse voice laughed, “You are still quite bad-tempered as always, Your Highness. But we like it.”

Hearing this, Helian Chacha dared not stay to keep listening. However, when she was about to run away, she felt numb on the back of her neck and then passed out.

Those people outside rushed in immediately upon hearing the noise. Seeing Helian Chacha lying on the ground, their faces all turned gloomy.

‘This woman has been eavesdropping here for such a long time, and none of them found it.’

The head of the men in black passed the coachman and looked at Helian Chacha on the ground up and down, “So is this Concubine Xian?”

“Yes.” Chu Jianmo went to carry her up to the stone bed and then covered her body with his cloak.

The man in black aside saw how gently he was to take care of Helian Chacha, and he gritted his eyebrows as he took out his sword right away, “She eavesdropped what we talked, so we can’t spare her life!”

Chu Jianmo fended off for Helian Chacha, “I brought her out. You shall never touch her.”
