Chapter 64: Middle-Class Difficulty Swings

Yuto crossed his arms and furrowed his brows together.

A Treasure Chest is just that. It’s a chest with an item that appears inside a Dungeon.

If it’s inside a Base Dungeon, it can appear on any floor.

But in general, the deeper you go down, they say that the chances of you running into one also go up.

From a Treasure Chest, you can obtain rare items.

The Naiad's Glove that Dannan has equipped came from a Treasure Chest.

The Treasure Chest is one of the mysteries of a Dungeon.

They appear out of nowhere, and before you know it, they disappear. And you will usually not see a Treasure Chest appear in the same place twice.

There are rumors going around saying that the contents of the Treasure Chest are actually relics left behind by past Adventurers who died in the Dungeon, but no one has determined the truth of the matter.

If you are an Adventurer, most would start drooling by instinct if they came across one, but the chances of running into one is very low.

Yuto: “They’re asking me to [Find a Treasure Chest], but can I really Clear this Quest…..?”

Yuto has been inside the Dungeons for several years, but he has yet to come across one Treasure Chest.

Only the extremely lucky individuals run into Treasure Chests during their Dungeon Explorations.

Yuto: “Well~ I guess I’ll clear this some day?”

The chances of clearing this Quest is not zero.

If he continues to explore Dungeons for several more years, he might be able to clear this Quest one day.

ーーBut that will most definitely take a long time.

Yuto: “So that leaves the [Singularly Concentrated Meditative State], huh. 1 hour seems like a really short period of time though…..”

Yuto has now exceeded Level 30.

The Quests that appeared when he did so seem to be all Quests that will take time to clear.

But even so, this [Singularly Concentrated Meditative State] is just a single hour.

Yuto: (Is this something that I can easily Clear?)

Yuto: “Hmmmmm~ well, I guess I’ll just have to try.”

Yuto begins his meditation.

He sat on the floor, closed his eyes and began concentrating and centering himself.

After a while, Yuto checks his Quest status.

>>Singularly Concentrated Meditative State (0 / 60 minutes)

Yuto: “Just as I thought….I’m not progressing at all.”

Yuto attempted the meditation for a good bit of time, but the Skill Board did not count any of his efforts.

He had a feeling that this might happen, so Yuto was not too disappointed.

The cause was apparent.

Yuto: “It’s because I don’t know how to perform a Singularly Concentrated Meditative State at all~”

What Yuto did was his own way of meditating and concentrating.

But what the Quest is looking for is a very specific method called “Singularly Concentrated Meditative State”.

Because of that, Yuto is unable to progress in the Quest.

Yuto: “.........okay. If I learn how to properly meditate, then I can clear the Quest. I’ll have to put this aside in the meantime.”

Yuto switches directions and stands up.

He takes the wooden sword hanging on his wall and left the room.

Yuto came to the open space in the back of Pluto’s Weapons and Armor Shop.

This is actually the space utilized for testing out a blade’s edge and sharpness.

Yuto has been allowed to use this space for quite a long time now.

Yuto picks up his wooden sword, readies his stance, and begins swinging his sword.

Yuto: “..........SH!! …….SEY!!”

After performing 10 swings, Yuto checks his Quest status.

>>Perform Middle-Class Difficulty Sword Swings (0 / 7000 times)

Yuto: “So I can’t just do normal swings~”

What the Quest is asking for his “Middle-Class Difficulty" swings.

So first, Yuto needs to figure out exactly what the Quest is asking for.

Yuto then performs the swing with one of his sword moves.

He imagines a Monster before him, and instead of swinging in an exact form, he swung his sword as he would attack Monsters.

Once he performed about 10 swings, he took out his Skill Board to confirm.

But the Quest count did not even go up by one.

Yuto: “So it’s not done by imagining your enemies and performing combat moves. Hmmmm~ then what does Middle-Class Difficulty mean……?”

Yuto crosses his arms to think.

As he thought deeply, in his mind, one idea surfaced.

Yuto: “Wait…..maybe……”

Yuto places the wooden sword in his inventory and instead, pulls out his Mithril Katana.

He draws the sword out and swings.

Yuto: “..........SH! ……...SEY!!”

After about 10 swings, he checks the Skill Board.

Then….

>>Perform Middle-Class Difficulty Sword Swings (10 / 7000 times)

Yuto: “YES! It went up.”

The exact number of swings he performed was counted.

The “Middle-Class Difficulty” that the Quest was requesting meant to practice sword swings with his actual combat blade.

Finding out the Quest Clear Requirements, Yuto’s motivation was set on fire.

Yuto gripped his sword handle tightly, and with a singular focus, he continued to swing his Katana.

He began feeling the change as soon as he crossed 1,000 swings.

Yuto: (Ugh...my arms….are so heavy…..!)

Yuto was having difficulty lifting his arms.

The speed of his sword swings were much slower than when he first started.

Yuto: (gasp……...gasp…….)

He hasn’t felt this much fatigue in lifting his arms since the days when he was still Level 1.

The screams of pain in his arms felt nostalgic, but Yuto thinks about the reason why.

Yuto: “I see….my arms are so tired because I’m not using a wooden sword but an actual metal blade.”

Compared to a wooden sword, a metal blade is much heavier.

If you just consider the weight, it would be at least twice as heavy.

And on top of that, Yuto’s Katana’s weight distribution is closer to the very tip of his sword so the amount of strength required to swing the sword is exponentially more.

This is why Yuto is feeling more tired than usual.

Up until now, Yuto has experienced defeating more than 1,000 Monsters in a single day.

In order to defeat 1,000 Monsters, you need to swing your sword 1000 times.

But when he defeated 1,000 Monsters, he did not feel his arms get this tired.

But even so, the fatigue continued to pile up in his arms because he <continuously swung his sword 1,000 times>.

No matter how long his expedition inside his Dungeon was, he was not in continuous, back to back combat.

There was always a gap between fights that lasted anywhere from tens of seconds to sometimes minutes.

But the sword swings he is performing is one continuous string of swings.

The only time he gets to rest is in between sword swings which is an extremely short interval of a few seconds.

For that reason, the speed at which his fatigue builds could not be compared to times before.

Yuto: “Even with my Level and Skills, it’s still this difficult……….wait, no…….”

Yuto shakes his head to shake off the thought.

Because the effects of it are so great, it’s easy to lose sight of it, but Level and Skills are ultimately abilities that support the physical body.

Even with the same Level and Skill, between the young and old, you will see a great difference in combat abilities.

That is because the strength of the body also determines the effectiveness of the Skill. A weakened body will produce weaker results with the same Skill.

The Daily Quests before and these Weekly Quests are training methods to ensure that your combat ability is raised to its maximum potential.

Realizing this, a smile came over Yuto.

Yuto: “That means I can still get much, much stronger than before!”

He mumbled to himself quietly and began swinging his sword with concentrated attention.
