The Cliff of Howling Songs was very far away from Merinford, the cliff was actually in Warrick, about as far from his city as it gets.

The cliff overlooked the stretch of ocean between Warrick and the Toffler Republic, but since the coastline there was all rocky cliffs with reefs surrounding them, there were no nearby cities.

The teleportation spells in Ascendance were very hard to use, and while Aura knew several, they couldn't be used before level 100, and most required material components to cast (spells below intermediate level don't need any sort of components).

Aura's only option was to use the teleportation service, but in order to do that, he would need to teleport to Bulrok City, then to Warrick, then to Farbridge, which would cost a minimum of 100 gold.

Inconvinient, but worth the cost.

Given the difficulty of space-time attribute spells, the fee is actually quite cheap, but since it's been made into a magic circle, and all they need to do to keep it running is install a new force core every once in a while, the mages guild makes bank off of them. The mages guild controls the teleportation circles that the public can use, this is to prevent countries from using the circles in war.

This practice means that the mages guild is on equal standing with each country, and also means that the Council of Stars holds more sway than a king.

Cliff of Howling Winds, Warrick

After travelling to Warrick, Aura spent a week walking here.

Aura had fallen behind in terms of level, but that was to be expected, and due to the terrors outside the city walls, people were already starting to curb their leveling frenzy.

Aura was going to use the caves in the face of the cliff as a starting point for his base, expanding them to his satisfaction. So, after rappelling down, he set up his barrier stones and got to work.

Or he would have.

'Something has interfered with the creation of a barrier'

There weren't many things that could interfere with barrier construction, but the most likely ones in this case were spirits being dissatisfied with him trying to build there, or there being a dungeon nearby.

Aura couldn't think of a reason why the spirits would stop him, so he began searching the caves for any sign of a dungeon.

Dungeons are one of the few game-like things, but are classified as a type of monster, that sucks in force from outside and uses it to create a trap to catch prey. Using the force gathered by a dungeon core, the dungeon will create a dungeon master, a replaceable entity responsible for designing the dungeon. Once the dungeon master has created a dungeon, the dungeon itself opens to the outside, allowing intruders in, and when the intruders die, the dungeon feeds on their corpses.

The dungeon in this cave is probably both young and undiscovered, making it weak, but it was never a good idea to underestimate a dungeon, they could be filled with all sorts of horrifying traps.

Aura reviewed all the information he remembered about the Cliff of Howling Songs and determined that this dungeon wasn't here in his past life, it had probably been cleared and its dungeon core stolen before anyone could notice its presence, suggesting that the dungeon was either very weak, or the person who discovered it was very skilled.

Aura had every reason to capture the dungeon, if he could get his hands on the dungeon core he would be set for life.

A dungeon core that had been separated from its dungeon was very valuable, since it could still be used to create monsters and items, it just no longer passively absorbed force from the environment, meaning its user had to supply all of its force.

If Aura could grab the dungeon core, he could make his base far more secure, binding monsters to defend his territory.

If Aura died at some point, owning a functional dungeon core would allow him to reincarnate as a dungeon master, which would allow him to make his way up realms in a different, and possibly more fun way.

The dungeon core would also allow him to grow plants and other things underground, a huge boon for him.

These are just a few of the benefits of owning a dungeon core, so as Aura walked up to the black vortex that would send him into the dungeon, he was inwardly jumping in joy.
