FH Chapter 22: 带你回家

Taking You Home

Li Haitang blinked for a moment before she came back to her senses, she lowered her head, looked at her inner cloth then she blushed slightly, even if she was stupid, she finally understood what was going on.

Being a doctor, she is used to looking at the bodies of men and women. Moreover, in this modern society, no one is shying away from medical treatment and does not pay much attention to differences in treatment for men and women.

Li Haitang had been wandering around in the mountains all day, and her loincloth had been scratched by a few branches, revealing her white arms, which, in the eyes of others, meant that she was not properly dressed.

Xiao Wild Man’s meaning was clear: he had seen her body, so he had to take responsibility.

Li Haitang bemoaned her melodramatic life!

In the distance, dark clouds were pressing down to the border, the cool breeze was laden with moisture, and before long, huge raindrops fell from the sky and slapped down.

“It’s raining!”

Li Haitang was drenched all over and was practically covering her head and sneaking away like a rat. There were caves in the mountains but she dared not take shelter for fear that it was the nest of some wild beast. If she stays out in the rain all night, she’s bound to catch a wind chill. What bad luck through and thoroughly!

“Come home with me.”

Xiao Lingchuan frowned at the patches of dark clouds. According to his past experience, this autumn rain was sporadic and would last for at least two or three days.

The villagers knew that Li Haitang had been sold by the Li family to Counselor Qin in the town, however, Xiao Lingchuan did not care about such gossip, yet recently he had been in town to sell mountain products, so he had also heard about it without any intention to pay attention to it.

Today he was stewing mountain chicken at home, but he had just turned on the pot and found that the mushrooms were gone. He went out to pick them and happened to run into Li Haitang, who had escaped from the arranged marriage, roasting chestnuts.

Originally, Xiao Lingchuan could have turned his head and left, but Li Haitang was a young lady, sleeping in the mountains, which was very unsafe, and furthermore, he had seen her body, so he could not just take advantage of her without saying anything, which was not what a gentleman or man of noble character would do.

“You drape it yourself first.”

Xiao Lingchuan untied his own outer cloth and handed it to Li Haitang, pointing in the direction of the distance, “My home, over there.”

“Thank you.”

Li Haitang huffed, only able to grasp a few isolated words and phrases in the wild man’s mere words. She was afraid of entering the tiger’s den again, but on second thought, she was a small woman, she could not fight the strong wild man, and if the other side really had any bad intention, it would be useless even if she shouted.

The rain came as soon as it was supposed to, and it was heavy and fast. With the layers of branches and leaves and Xiao Lingchuan’s coat covering her, Li Haitang’s shoes were still drenched after a few steps. The edges of her embroidered shoes were stained with a layer of mud as she was walking with one foot in front of the other.

“Ah!”

Li Haitang was so concerned with her feet that she suddenly bumped into a wall of a person. She rubbed the bridge of her sore nose and thought to herself that he is the type that didn’t communicate much with others. If things continue this way, his language function will deteriorate. He stopped his step yet he didn’t warn her first.

Xiao Lingchuan felt a softness touch his back, his body stiffened for a long time before he turned around and took the small basket in Li Haitang’s hand, the contour of his face tensed up even tighter.

The two of them didn’t talk either, Xiao Lingchuan seemed to have eyes on the back of his head, always keeping a short distance from Li Haitang, and when she walked a little slower, he would stop and wait for her.

It was raining and the hills were slippery, so Li Haitang could only take small steps. For about two quarters of an hour, she finally saw the walled courtyard with bricks and tiles piled up on the hillside.

A red lantern hung at the entrance of the small courtyard, glowing dimly in red. Surrounded by sky-high ancient trees and remote, thickly, deep mountain forests, there was a stone platform at the entrance and a flowing stream below, not at all bleak, but rather with a sense of Land of Peach Blossoms—a haven of peace and a sense of beauty.

The courtyard walls are high, with a hedge erected against the corner, and pumpkins and bottle gourds planted, on which heavy fruit is already hanging, some of which are climbing out of the wall.
