Before the Storm 2

“Alvin-sama, what are you doing?”

While reading on the sofa, I noticed that Alvin-sama, sitting next to me, was doing something with my hair.

Apparently, he was just trying to tie my hair, which I had just let down. I closed the book, feeling that the touch was much more natural than before and the distance between us was getting closer.

“Nina’s hair is beautiful.”

“Yours is definitely more beautiful, Alvin-sama.”

His blonde hair, which looked like bundles of light, was always shining and dazzling. Not only his hair but also his eyes and skin, everything about Alvin-sama was perfect and beautiful.

Still staring at Alvin-sama, I sometimes wondered again how he could like me.

“Everything about Nina is cute and radiant, like an angel.”

“… I’d like to see myself from Alvin-sama’s point of view.”

It seemed that a special filter was applied to me, displaying me as a very beautiful woman. I just hoped that one day that effect doesn’t unravel.

“I also really like Nina’s eyes, they’re so distinct and beautiful.”

“I admire Alvin-sama’s jewel-like eyes.”

“Really? I don’t like my own eyes, though.”

I had heard before that Alvin-sama’s eye color was inherited from his mother. My heart ached a little when I thought it was because of that.

“Even so, I still like them. They are so beautiful that I want to stare at them forever.”

“…. I’m a simple man, so I think I’ll fall more in love with Nina just because you said that.”

“Fufu, then I’ll say it every day.”

I hoped my presence by his side would brighten Alvin-sama’s world, even if only a little.

In the meantime, it seemed that he had finished arranging my hair, and Alvin-sama muttered, “I’m done,” and put his arm around my body.

A light touch of my hand revealed that it was elaborate and beautifully braided. It was of such a quality that if the maids saw it, they would lose their motivation.

“Alvin-sama, you really can do anything, can’t you?”

“That’s not true. I can’t even kiss Nina.”

Alvin-sama stared at me intently with a sulking expression on his face.

“Nina said no kissing.”

“It’s all because of Alvin-sama!”

When it was just the two of us, it was all we would do, and I had reached my limit. It wasn’t that I don’t like it, but there was a limit.

Lara accidentally witnessed it once, and she said, “It’s amazing that you can stand that much,” which made me even more embarrassed. I had to issue a one-week ban.

“No lips-to-lips? Then, how far would you allow it?”

“A-All of them are no good!”

He scooped up one of my hands and kissed my fingertips. The soft touch and warmth that I have felt over and over again in the past few days reminded me of many things, and my face became hot all at once.

Seeing me like that, Alvin-sama raised the corner of his mouth.

“What were you thinking just now, Nina?”

“N-Nothing….”

“Liar. Did you want to do it a little?”

“….”

I wanted to run away when I felt my fingertips being bitten lightly again.

Suddenly, the ring on Alvin-sama’s right middle finger shone brightly, and at that moment, his smile turned serious.

And I recalled hearing that this ring was a magic tool that Lara had made before.

“It’s connected to the temple where Erica is, and it’s supposed to glow in case of an emergency. Honestly, it’s kind of weird to have a ring that matches Owen and Dirk.”

In short, when I thought that something had happened to Erica, I felt my body temperature drop in an instant.

“I’m sorry, Nina. I’ll be back in a little while.”

“I’ll go with you──”

“I’ll be fine on my own, Nina, stay here. When you’re with me, I get distracted.”

I bit my lip as he said this to me as if to appease me.

I wasn’t as good at fighting as Alvin-sama and the others, and in the unlikely event that the opponent was that man, I would surely become useless again due to fear.

Moreover, it was clear that if I were by his side, Alvin-sama would fight to protect me and wouldn’t be able to exert his true strength.

“I understand.”

I nodded quietly, and Alvin-sama smiled at me and patted my head, saying, “I’m sorry,” and then disappeared with teleportation magic.

Unable to stop feeling uneasy, I headed to Lara’s room.

As soon as I stepped out into the hallway, I ran into Theo.

“I’ll be your bodyguard while they’re gone.”

“Hmm, thank you.”

Dirk was currently away from the royal castle due to knightly work, so only Alvin-sama and Owen were headed there.

With Lara and Theo as my escorts, we moved to Lara’s room.

“Don’t make that face, they’ll be fine.”

While Lara was setting up wards in this room, Theo called out to me as if he was concerned. I must look pretty terrible right now.

“I’m sorry. It’s been so peaceful lately that I was a little surprised.”

“I know, right? I was caught off guard too. But I’m sure they’ll be back soon, so let’s have a cup of tea and wait for them.”

Theo wasn’t at all worried about the two of them, which made me feel a little calmer.

Alvin-sama and Owen, who were such strong and powerful wizards, couldn’t possibly lose to anyone.

I clenched my small, trembling hands tightly as I told myself that they would be fine.
