Where I Belong 1

“…. I wonder if everyone is all right.”

I hugged Cheryl’s fluffy body tightly in my room and mumbled to myself. Perhaps sensing my anxiety and nervousness, Cheryl licked my cheek and I couldn’t help but smile.

──As per Lara’s prediction, a report came in at dawn today stating that a dragon had appeared.

And so, Erica and everyone else headed off to defeat it as planned. As an anomaly, I remained alone in the royal castle so as not to get in the way, waiting for everyone to return safely.

Even though I knew everything was going to be okay, I still got nervous, and I spent the morning wandering around the room and hanging out with Cheryl, unable to get anything done.

“Ugh…. I’m so nervous….”

It had been a month since we defeated the bug.

All of us recovered safely and were preparing for this day. Of course, Alvin-sama was too.

As a result of praying for Alvin-sama’s recovery with the reward item, the wish was successfully granted. A few days later, Alvin-sama woke up and seemed surprised to find himself still alive.

“…. I thought it was strange that Nina was in Hell.”

“Please don’t just kill me off.”

Looking back, Owen said, “It’s not good to get your hopes up,” and kept quiet to Alvin-sama about the existence of the item.

“…. I’m really hopeless, huh? Committing a crime for my own wish, and wasting such a precious wish.”

“But we were able to defeat that guy thanks to you. If you hadn’t used the forbidden magic, we might have all died at that time.”

“That’s right. Don’t let one or two sins make you feel gloomy.”

“It’s not a very supportive statement, but I agree. It all turned out for the best.”

“Yeah.”

Alvin-sama was blaming himself, but the people around him weren’t blaming him, instead we were supporting him.

After he recovered, he came to visit everyone who was injured every day and said a few words.

“I swear that from now on I will devote myself even more to the good of this country.”

Everyone nodded deeply at his sincere words.

Together with Alvin-sama, I would also use the power that I have and try to do as much as I can.

“Alright, I think it’s been a while since I make some potions.”

I clapped my hands together and got up from the sofa. Cheryl made a small whimper, and I realized then that she was always like that whenever Alvin-sama came over.

The next thing I knew, I heard a knock and immediately rushed to the door.

“Welcome back!”

“I’m back, Nina.”

There, as expected, was Alvin-sama──and when I saw his face, I couldn’t help but hug him.

I was relieved to see that he seemed to be uninjured. I quickly led him inside, and Cheryl also ran up to Alvin-sama, wagging her tail like a puppy, and was lifted up in his arms.

“Erica successfully defeated the Evil Dragon. She passed out from exhaustion and should have been taken to the medical room by now. She is uninjured.”

“I’m really glad. T-Thank goodness….”

I felt glad and almost buckled due to my trembling legs, but Alvin-sama supported me.

With this, Erica would finally be freed from the game scenario, and she would be able to begin her own life in this world.

──I had once asked her if she wanted to go back to her world, but Erica quietly shook her head.

Although I didn’t know the details, she must have her own reasons.

I hoped that from now on she would lead a happy life with the young chef, the love of her life. Of course, I would also like to spend time with her as a good friend of hers.

“Nina can rest assured now that the game is over.”

“…. Yes.”

Just as Alvin-sama said, I felt like I was finally freed from the game “Adolescence of Swords and Magic.”

◇◇◇

A little while later, I visited Erica in the medical room.

“Nina-san! Alvin-sama!”

There was Erica sitting on the bed, eating a piece of fruit.

Next to her was a young man who, upon seeing Alvin-sama, rushed to his feet and bowed his head.

“Please raise your head.”

“I’m sorry, did we disturb you two?”

“No, not at all! I’m just here to accompany her for a few minutes, if you’ll excuse me.”

The young man showed a friendly smile and politely greeted us before leaving.

Just from this momentary exchange, you could tell that he was a wonderful person.

“Thank you for your hard work, Erica! You did a great job.”

“T-Thank you so much….”

Erica’s ice-blue eyes began to drip with tears.

When I thought about the pressure she must have felt and the efforts she had made so far, even I got teary-eyed a little.

“I was really useless with magic at first…. but Nina-san kept me going and I was really happy that you never gave up on me. Thank you very much…”

“No, I didn’t do much. Erica did her best.”

Eventually, Erica wiped away her tears, took my hand, and gently wrapped it with hers.

“Nina-san, even though I am like this, will you continue to be my friend….?”

Her eyes were shaking with anxiety, but my mind was already made up.

“Nina.”

“Eh?”

“You’ll call me that from now on, won’t you?”

──When we first met, I asked her to call me “Nina”, but she refused, saying that she was now my student.

She wanted me to call her as a friend after she learned how to use holy magic properly.

Perhaps Erica also remembered that exchange and more tears welled up in her eyes.

“Nina, thank you…. Uwaaa….”

“Thank you to you, too.”

Six months ago, Erica was the first to notice my existence and that’s the reason I could be here now. She was a very hard-working and cute person, and I loved her from the bottom of my heart.

I hugged Erica tightly as she continued to cry, happy that we could continue to be dear friends in the future.
