Final Battle 3

“At times like this, that kind of line is really sneaky.”

“You all can definitely do it.”

“Anything more than that and Theo will cry, so you’ll have to continue later.”

“Shut up, I won’t cry!”

As if the heavy air from earlier was a lie, the usual sense of security prevailed.

“What, what? What do you plan to do?”

Meanwhile, the man clapped his hands enthusiastically and waited excitedly for our response.

It could be seen clearly that he didn’t care about what we could do to him. His arrogance was transparent. Only this man didn’t understand Alvin-sama’s resolve.

There was no way Alvin-sama could have missed that carelessness.

“Let’s go!”

In response to Dirk’s voice, everyone deployed their magic and attacked at the same time. I also put all of the magic I could muster into the attack.

All of them were strengthened to the maximum of their abilities, and they attacked the man once more.

It didn’t matter if he healed immediately. As long as there was even a momentary gap, Alvin-sama would put an end to it all.

“Alvin, we can’t hold out much longer!”

“Yes, I know.”

Alvin-sama thrust his sword into the man’s body and began chanting an unfamiliar spell.

Forbidden magic surpassed the laws of nature at the cost of one’s life──It should be able to bring death even to a bug who had also defied the laws of nature.

“I’m not going to die even if you do this──Eh?”

The man still didn’t seem to feel any pain. He had a faint smile on his face, perhaps because he was confident that he could recover. However, his body gradually darkened and began to crumble like sand from the tips of his fingers.

“What? What’s going on?”

Perhaps feeling a sense of crisis, the smile faded from the man’s face.

“Gugh….!”

But as Alvin-sama continued to thrust the blade into the man’s heart, black bruises I had never seen before spread across his hands, neck, and face. His expression was distorted with pain, and I could see that it was definitely the price of the forbidden magic.

The sight of it almost crushed my heart.

“Guaaahhhh!”

About half of his body collapsed, and a desperate cry echoed through the air. The man desperately resisted and lashed out, unleashing offensive magic even as a sword was thrust into his heart.

The man’s previous composure had completely disappeared, and his attacks were as frantic as those of a beast clinging to life. They wounded Alvin-sama’s body, and a pool of blood spread out in the area.

However, Alvin-sama didn’t care about the attacks and continued chanting.

This battle wouldn’t end until one of them died. Alvin-sama literally put his life on the line.

Then, what I could do is―

“Alvin-sama!”

I desperately suppressed my desire to run over and stop him right now, and continued to cast healing magic while praying for Alvin-sama’s safety. If we stopped now, everything would be in vain.

“I’ll never let you die….!”

──I couldn’t imagine a world without Alvin-sama anymore.

I used all the power I had to pour magic into Alvin-sama──And as a result, I let go of my consciousness.

◇◇◇

“…. Ungh.”

When I opened my eyes, I was met with a pure white ceiling.

“Nina-san, you’re awake….!”

I immediately remembered that I lost consciousness and hurriedly got up.

At my side was Erica, her large eyes filled with tears. It seemed that I was in the medical room in the royal castle.

“How is Alvin-sama──”

As soon as I was about to say that, I gasped when I spotted Alvin-sama lying on the bed next to me.

His beautiful face and limbs were covered with black marks, and his complexion was very terribly pale.

“Alvin-sama hasn’t regained consciousness yet…. Owen-san said that he might have survived thanks to Nina-san’s magic.”

Erica said while rubbing her red, swollen eyes.

──That man was successfully defeated, and although Theo was badly injured, everyone was safe, she said.

Erica told me that while we were still unconscious, she continued to do the work in place of Alvin-sama.

She said that I had completely exhausted all my mana and had been unconscious for about three days since then. Erica seemed to have taken the time to heal my external injuries, so I was mostly uninjured.

I managed to stand up with my unsteady body and headed to Alvin-sama’s side, supported by Erica.

“Alvin-sama….”

When I touched his cold cheek, my vision blurred with tears. I wanted to say thank you for saving me, but I couldn’t get the words out as the tears just kept flowing.

In the past, he said he wouldn’t trust anyone, but this time, he believed in his friends and even sacrificed himself to protect us. When I thought of his feelings and the changes he went through, my heart tightened.

His whole body felt so cold that it was a wonder he was still alive.

“…. Right, the item.”

Remembering the reward item, I was about to ask Erica about it when I noticed that I had an unfamiliar gold bracelet on my right arm.

“Erica, this is….”

“It was attached to Nina-san’s arm sometime after that man disappeared. We examined it while Nina-san was unconscious, and it proved to be harmless.”

She then added, “I believe this is the reward item for defeating the bug.” Since Erica wasn’t there, I wondered if it was given to me.

Still, it wasn’t fine for me to grant the wish on my own. As I felt a little hesitant, Erica smiled at me as if she could see through my feelings.

“Everyone said you should use it on Alvin-sama.”

“…. Thank you.”

When I touched the bracelet, I strangely understood what to do with it, even though I shouldn’t have known how to use it at all.

I put magic power into the jewel part of the bracelet and take Alvin-sama’s hand.

“Please save Alvin-sama──….”

At the same time as I sincerely wished for this, my field of vision was filled with a bright light.
