Chapter 100-Worried Out Of One’s Wits Part 1

Kuzhu Village-

The eerie village was drenched in bloody and demonic qi.  Pushing open the door to a thatched house, the first thing to be found was blood on the floor.  The still-warm ashes of charcoal were also stained black with dried blood, while a pot with its lid half-off held a layer of congealed sweet potato congee.  Four pairs of bowls and chopsticks were on the table, side dishes set out, and a half empty dish of the sweet potato congee.

But no living person was to be found, only the sharp stench of blood.

Just the scene of what must have been a family sitting down to eat a meal, only to be caught off guard by a vicious attack.

“This is……awful.”

After entering the house and taking in the tragic setting, Li Liu sighed heavily.

Chu Yao: “You three, search the village for any living survivors.”

“Yes.”

Hearing Chu Yao’s order, Ye Ze, Li Liu, and Chang Nian went to search.

Some disciples had followed [Order] to other villages, and some had come with Chu Yao to Kuzhu to find the traces of the Demon Tide and see if anyone had been left alive.

""

After the three junior disciples left, Chu Yao looked up and saw Gu Peijiu standing outside the house.  Gu Peijiu had declined to enter, and was instead frowning at something a little ways off in the distance.

Going out, Chu Yao looked in the same direction as Gu Peijiu, and her eyes were caught by a drooping, blood-stained white flag hanging dispiritedly in front of another house’s door.

Someone from that household must’ve died, and there was a white notice pasted to the door as well.

Eventually Gu Peijiu withdrew her gaze, and the three junior disciples came back to Chu Yao, shaking their heads.

“Now go search the villages outskirts, make sure there’s no one trying to return here,” Chu Yao told them.

The three disciples left again.

“When they come back, let’s go to the other villages and catch up with [Order].”  As she spoke, Chu Yao glanced at Gu Peijiu.

Gu Peijiu gave her a nod: “You can go ahead, I’ll wait here.”

“There’s no one left.”  Chu Yao paused, “What is Senior Sister going to do here?”

Although Chu Yao was an alternative senior disciple, Gu Peijiu was an official senior disciple.  Therefore, it was only proper for Chu Yao to address Gu Peijiu as ‘Senior Sister.’

Taking out a yellow talisman, Gu Peijiu answered: “Requiem.”

“Wherever the Demon Tide goes, the flesh and blood of the living are consumed, and their souls become evil spirits that follow the Tide.”  Chu Yao narrowed her eyes, “Is there some soul here that Senior Sister wishes to put to rest?”

Chu Yao’s question sounded somewhat provocative.

Yet Gu Peijiu simply glanced at her, giving an unexpected small smile.

“The souls of people may have already been consumed entirely, but the Yi-Soul remains restless.”

“Yi-Soul?”

But before Chu Yao had any further chance to respond to Gu Peijiu’s words, a chill went up Chu Yao’s spine and she saw that the blood-stained white flag not far off suddenly moved!

Springing out of the mud and rising into the air, the white flag became two white flags, then two became four, on and on!  Resentful qi soaring along with the flags, countless blood-stained white flags filled the sky in an instant, surrounding the entire Kuzhu village!

Chu Yao drew her sword, its blade like clear, cool water in autumn, and her voice turned cold: “Is it Yimei?”

An accompanying disciple also unsheathed his sword: “What the hell is going on?!”

Up above, the white flags had arranged themselves into a formation, and were now violently descending.  Many disciples were unable to dodge the onslaught, the white flags viciously piercing their bodies!

“Aaaa——”

A disciple pierced by a white flag froze in place for a second, his eyes gradually turning blood-red.  Then, without warning, he slashed his sword towards an unsuspecting fellow disciple!

Clang!

Chu Yao blocked the disciple’s sword, cut the white flag from his body, and kicked him away: “Open your eyes!  Who are you trying to attack?!”

The red fading from his eyes, the dazed disciple stared blankly at everyone: “I……what happening?”

The white flags could control minds!

Gu Peijiu spoke: “I’m going to find the heart of the formation.  Guard here below.”

As Gu Peijiu carefully avoided the white flags, {heavenly punishment} spread out, coiling around the disciples controlled by the white flags.  Holding her yellow talisman in one hand and {heavenly  punishment} in the other, Gu Peijiu flew towards the mid-air formation!

With the help of the few disciples not pierced by a white flag, Chu Yao began cutting out the white flags from the controlled disciples one by one.  Tsking to herself, Chu Yao abruptly said to her sword: “Scatter!”

One sword became a hundred blades that followed Gu Peijiu into the air, protectively slicing away the white flags aiming for her, while Gu Peijiu focused on the center of the formation.

However, the second she saw what was at the formation heart, the yellow talisman in Gu Peijiu’s hand suddenly stiffened.

A bloodstained white garment shone brilliantly at the center of the formation, its sleeves fluttering, and it was overflowing with sinister, ferocious qi!

It was none other than the Yimei {misfortune} that Gu Peijiu had cut to pieces at the black market!

—— You can’t kill me.

Pupils slightly shrinking, Gu Peijiu threw her yellow talisman with a flip of her hand!

The swift and fierce yellow talisman bored through the dense white flags, heading straight for the white garment!  Yet the white Yimei lightly shook a sleeve, and a swirling black vortex exuding powerful qi appeared, swallowing the yellow talisman whole!

The Yimei’s actions making the white flags’ offensive even more violent, Chu Yao’s flying swords began to show signs of collapse!

Gu Peijiu glared icily: “The Demon Tide, was it your doing?”

The Yimei {misfortune} didn’t bother to answer her.  It simply waved its sleeve again, and the black vortex grew even larger!  The gravitational pull of it grew harder and harder to withstand!
