Chapter 28-Mary Sue Divine Dan Part 2

Translated by Snowfall77

Eminently enticing, with a dazzling luster……every observer’s heart stirred with rapacious desire at the sight of the divine dan—-

Want it!  Must get it!!!

If only this divine dan could be obtained, immortality would eternally assured!!!

To obtain it was to obtain everything!!

Every other thought fell out of Chang Lu’s mind.  All he could see was the two shining dan in hands of the hemp-clad boy.

Only one idea gripped him entirely—-

Get it!

“Divine dan……”

The murmur passed his lips, coming straight from the heart.

Who cared about the effects of this dan?  Who cared whether it only glowed?  To inexperienced teenagers who knew little of the world, the dan blinded them with brilliant temptation, their original intentions fading away in its brightness.

It was only human nature.

But while everyone else was staring bewitched at the dan, the young lady with the embroidered silver butterflies looked at the face of the boy holding them, and her eyebrows slightly creased.

The boy with the green ribbon had a small smile on lips, his slender figure draped in hemp cloth.  Also, judging by the snow-white bandage on his almost equally pale neck, it appeared he’d been injured.

Chu Yi’s brow stayed furrowed.  The boy seemed ineffably delicate.

And although the brightly shining dan was quite tempting, it couldn’t move Chu Yi’s heart.  The Chu Family of Chang’an was descended from royalty.  They might no longer rule the country, they might no longer have the power and authority of the royal family, but still, two trifling dan, no matter how dazzling, were nothing in Chu Yi’s eyes.

Useless things had never interested Chu Yi.

No, only two things interested Chu Yi.  One was pulling her high and mighty sister down off her pedestal and into the dirt, and the other—–

Balling up her hands suddenly, Chu Yi lowered her eyelids.

The other—–

But then Xia Ge suddenly enclosed the two shining dan in her hand, the rainbow-hued rays of light dissipated, and the Jianfeng disciples slowly come back to their senses.

Xia Ge, looking particularly shrewd, spoke casually: “Ah, brother, did you not just say ‘divine dan?’”

Recovering from his daze, Chang Lu’s face immediately blushed beet-red: “You!  I……I did not!”

""

Chu Yi’s voice was indifferent: “Chang Lu.”

Chang Lu amazingly turned even redder: “Just cause it shone, does that make it divine?!  Who are you kidding—–”

Yet Xia Ge beamed with innocence: “Brother Chang, you said it yourself.  If my dan didn’t shine, I must kowtow to you a hundred times—-”

Xia Ge slightly shook her hand, divine light flashing through her fingers, and Chang Lu’s eyes widened.  Voice virtuous beyond compare, Xia Ge continued: “But my dan does shine.  Brother, according to our bet, what should you do now?”

Chang Lu clenched his fists so tightly, the ‘creak’ of his joints could be heard.

Lightly raising her eyebrows, Xia Ge glanced over at the young lady with the silver butterflies, no longer able to completely hide the amusement in her tone: “Sister, do you recall what this brother agreed to?”

“You can’t side with him simply because you are both Jianfeng disciples.”

“……”

Chu Yi returned the smiling boy’s glance, saying after a small pause: “Naturally, I will be impartial.”

Chang Lu’s eyes abruptly bulged: “Miss!”

Chu Yi graced with him a cutting look and Chang Lu immediately fell silent.

He called himself a son of the Chang family, however he was merely a son of a concubine.  He could associate with the second sister of the Chu family, and hide behind her name to bully others.  At any critical point, though, he didn’t have the qualifications to gainsay her.

There had been a time when the Chu family had thought their second daughter had been poisoned or some such thing.  Blind in both eyes, she’d mysteriously disappeared from her home for about half a month, evidently wandering around amongst the common people.  Then she’d returned, her eyes already healed, but her temperament turned very strange, making her behavior hard to predict——

She’d passively looked on as Chang Lu had bullied the small and weak, sometimes even deliberately making things especially easy for him.  Clearly, she was only about 11 or 12 years old, yet she kept her true thoughts hidden deep as a viper.  Who could know them?  To Chang Lu’s eyes, the only time Chu Yi showed any obvious emotion was when she encountered her older sister—-

Hating.  Despising.  Wishing the other to go straight to hell.

Now, two parties had made a bet.  And if the second young lady of the Chu family had him kowtow to death before this little bastard, no one would breathe even a word of accusation against her.

The Chu family of Chang’an might no longer live in the Imperial Palace, but they still possessed the Yimei {sacrificial knife}.  That alone was enough to make other families bow down to them.

“I will not take sides.”

“However, before that……”

The young lady with the fluttering silver butterflies embroidered on her sleeves looked at Xia Ge: “What is your name?”

The hand in the sleeve tightened, yet Xia Ge’s face stayed smiling: “My name is Xia Ge.”

“……summer, song.”

That person’s sweetheart……their surname was also Xia.

Truly an especially disgusting surname.

""

Chu Yi’s expression retained its equanimity, however a trace of iciness flashed in her eyes, “I see.”

For a second……she’d thought she’d found that person.

Really though, it was impossible.

No……she wouldn’t mistake some random person with the surname Xia for that person.

How did they even match?

Chu Yi turned away with a flip of her sleeves: “Chang Lu, do as you agreed.”

Chang Lu’s wide eyes stared incredulously at the girl’s departing back: “Miss……miss?”

Seeing Chu Yi leave the scene, some of the other Jianfeng disciples were torn, whether to follow her or go assist the injured Chang Lu.  When Chu Yi’s voice suddenly rang out.

“Disgrace.”

The few helpful Jianfeng disciples stiffened, then quickly followed Chu Yi, deliberately paying Chang Lu no attention.

The system’s voice was oddly hesitant: [Host, Meeting An Old Friend……Is It Alright To Not Greet Them?]

“It doesn’t matter.”

Xia Ge thought for a moment, a deep expression on her face: “……she’s already someone who can eat as many steamed buns as she wants.”

No, it’d be more accurate to say that things were just as they’d always been.

System: [……]

What was the relationship between eating steamed buns and the current situation?

Detouring around a motionless Chang Lu, Xia Ge picked up the curled-up girl behind the Jianfeng disciple: “……c’mon, I’ll take you to a doctor.”

Chang Lu, injured himself, stared fixedly at Xia Ge, not saying a word.

Holding the Danfeng girl, Xia Ge cocked her head at Chang Lu with a smile: “Brother Chang, don’t forget our bet.”

No longer able to hold back, Chang Lu spat hatefully: “……in that case, give me the divine dan!”

System: [……]

Xia Ge: “……”

Xia Ge found her somewhat melancholy mood dispelled by the other’s words.

“Well, then make sure to kowtow.”  Stifling a laugh, Xia Ge tossed the ‘divine’ dan to Chang Lu.  “Brother, don’t worry, it’s guaranteed to cure all ailments!”

The rainbowed-Mary Sue-shine of the dan bloomed, turning Chang Lu’s mind blank.  The pain of his leg receded and his eyes brimmed with greed.

After throwing the dan, Xia Ge took the other Danfeng girl and left.

System: [……Was He The Eternal Soulmate That You Were Looking For?]

Quite earnest, Xia Ge answered: “His soulmate is greed, not me.”

Therefore, let him learn a little lesson.  No harm in that.

The girl in Xia Ge’s arms abruptly began to struggle, her expression bitter, her voice hoarse: “……why did you give him the divine dan?!  Why would you help him?!”

Startled, Xia Ge looked blankly at the girl, who stared back, gaze filled with hate and pain: “Thanks to his status, Chang Lu commits many evils, so why would you save him?!!  Scum, scum——”

Well, the girl was alive and kicking, with the stamina to curse people out.  Apparently her injuries weren’t that critical……

Xia Ge: “I’ve just remembered something……”

Still holding the girl, Xia Ge turned around and walked back to Chang Lu.  Eyeing the Jianfeng disciple tremblingly holding the dan, Xia Ge’s lips curved up in a smile: “Brother.”

Snapping out of his dan-induced daze, Chang Lu regarded Xia Ge with loathing: “What do you want?!!”

The second the girl in Xia Ge’s arms heard Chang Lu’s voice, she started shaking.  She gripped Xia Ge’s lapel, her whole body shivering.

There was already a shadow?

To see or hear was to be afraid.

A smile might have been on Xia Ge’s lips, but her eyes held an ice-cold chill: “Brother, did you forget already?  I have in my arms an outer Danfeng disciple.”

Chang Lu’s complexion precipitously transformed!

Tilting her head, Xia Ge’s smile didn’t change: “Speaking of, I’m also an outer Danfeng disciple, but since my ribbon isn’t red……you can skip kowtowing to me.”

“Isn’t that generous of me?  Brother Chang, you won’t have to kowtow twice.”

The shaking of the girl in Xia Ge’s arms slightly abated, and she glanced at Xia Ge, eyes wide with incredulousness.

But, in that same moment, Chang Lu’s sword flew up.  Holding the dan in one hand and hilt in the other, Chang Lu pointed his sword-tip straight at Xia Ge’s throat!
