LFTMPH Chapter 58- Recovering Thanks to Steamed Buns Part 2

Translated by Snowfall77

“No matter, Senior Sister, I can go and try to see him right now!”  Xia made to bounce off the bed bare-footed, but her shoulders were pressed down before she could do so.

The smooth fragrance of sandalwood hovered in the air.

“Stay,” Gu Peijiu faintly urged, “It’s mealtime.”

A certain someone was too thin.

Xia Ge, holding tight to Guilongyu, shyly glanced at the new steamed buns that’d been placed on the table: “Thank you, Senior Sister……I will definitely copy the Danxun properly!”

After eating her breakfast, Xia Ge put on her new clothes and went outside, reveling in the longed-for warmth of sunshine on her face.

After a quick glance at Guilongyu, she bid Senior Sister a deeply respectful farewell before happily departing.

Watching the little bastard scamper off, Bixi couldn’t help being concerned.  She didn’t like him at all, but she was also cognizant of the severity of his injuries……

Bixi spoke hesitantly: “Miss……”

“That person isn’t worried for himself.”  Gu Peijiu threw Bixi a cold look, “Why should you be?”

Bixi was shaken.

She herself was barely troubled, it was just that……

Earlier weren’t you the one was very worried, Miss?

Going back to her chambers, Gu Peijiu was surprised when something light as a feather fell from her sleeve. She looked down and saw that it was a green ribbon.

The green ribbon she’d found on the back mountain.

She’d meant to give it back to the boy along with the jade……but instead, for some strange reason, it’d silently dropped now.

Emerald green against her snow-white shoes, a sudden contrast as sharp as the boy’s brightly glittering smile.

Gu Peijiu bent down and picked the ribbon up, twining it about a pale finger while being reminded of a spring willow sprouting new incomparably bright buds.

Then she silently hid the ribbon within a fist.

Having safely tucked Guilongyu away, Xia Ge made her way down the mountain in a lighthearted mood.  The effects of those [Jinjiang Buns] really was amazing.  Head to toe, she was bursting with vitality, none of the weakness that usually accompanied severe injuries to be felt anywhere.

Although, just because her abdominal wound wasn’t bothering her right now, that didn’t mean that she could be careless.  She didn’t want to reexperience the agony of it opening again.

The first order of business was going to the village carpenter.  There Xia Ge bought a simple, black wood box, all pretensions of a Liuli tree box forgotten.

System: [……]  And why had this type of box been no good before?

The small box didn’t take long to craft, so Xia Ge next went to Aunt Zhang’s fabric store.  There Xia Ge picked out some thin, gold silk.  She didn’t know whether or not she was imagining things though.  Because it felt like when she’d been buying the box and the silk, people had been giving her strange looks.

Avid……?  Curious?  Or……something like that?

Anyways, the rate of inexplicable second looks was definitely at 100%.

“Ai, look……”

“Isn’t that Xia Wuyin?”

“……”

Getting goosebumps, Xia Ge couldn’t figure out what was going on behind her back and she didn’t know a politic way to find out either.  Times like this, she missed having Ye Ze by her side a great deal.

If Ye Ze were with her, he’d give her a verbal beatdown for sure.  But afterwards he’d tell her what she needed to know in his tsundere way.

But now her only friend was gone.

The only one she could drink with, shoot the breeze with……he’d left.

System: [I Have To Ask, Why Didn’t You Go With Him?  You Know The Plot——]

Xia Ge: “……little puppet.”

System: [Mmm?]

A very angry and resentful Xia Ge: “You actually have the gall to ask your host to circle Lingxi’s peaks 30 times under the blistering sun?  You actually have the heart to make your host stay up till 3 in the morning, patrolling the 3 peaks?  You really want to make me get up at 4am every day so I can pratice with my stupid sword while listening to the roosters?  You’re truly that hardhearted?”

System: [……]  I’m not pitiless, I just think it’d be good for you, help you develop some discipline……

Xia Ge’s tone was impassive: “I know you’d like to see me suffer, but I’m not that stupid.”

Taking the box and the silk back to her little abode, Xia Ge painstakingly cut the cloth into two pieces.  She put 1 piece of silk in the box, placing Guilongyu atop it, and then tied the other silk piece around the box with a simple knot.

“Ah, very nice.”  Pleased with her handiwork, Xia Ge stroked her chin, “It might not be made from Liuli tree, but it’s not bad.  Not too formal, yet still demonstrating camaraderie, right?”

The system judiciously decided to not express its opinion: [When Do You Intend To Give It To Him?]

Glancing at the height of the sun, Xia Ge saw that it was about noon: “I often go to Shoufeng, although I’ve never gone to Jianfeng ……”

Why hadn’t she?

Hmm……

""

Well, the young disciples of Jianfeng stank of belligerence and oppressive hostility.  Valuing her personal safety, Xia Ge avoided the place as much as possible.

Xia Ge put the box into her silver ring and decided on her plan of action: “Since I don’t know exactly where Ye Ze is on Jianfeng……I’ll wait until night to try and go find him.  So until then I’ll go to Siguo Pavilion to check on something.  And get started on my Danxun copying.”

Touching her bandaged abdomen, Xia Ge was well aware that Senior Sister had let her off easy.

Back outside, Xia Ge hated the uncomfortable whispering behind her back, and so made her way directly to Siguo Pavilion.

Siguo Pavilion wasn’t just a place for ‘reflection,’ it also had many classic volumes.  Danfeng had mostly poor disciples, who were careful not to make mistakes.  And when disciples from the other peaks were punished, they usually weren’t made to copy books.  Jianfeng disciples were more likely to be punished to something like running 100 laps around the 3 peaks.  Shoufeng disciples would be forced to have their personal beast make the 100 laps—–cause that was more distressing to Shoufeng disciples than being made to do it themselves.

But of course there would always be ‘exotic flower’ outliers, the ones who’d punish people by sending them to Siguo Pavilion to copy the Danxun.

Matter of fact, when she thought about it, Xia Ge realized that she probably accounted for the vast majority of times that someone was given the ‘copying’ punishment.

Built into the mountain, sun shining down upon it, Siguo Pavilion was practically a second home to Xia Ge.  Going inside, Xia Ge found that the havoc caused by the Yimei attack might as well have never happened.  Pearwood tables were neatly placed in the exterior loft, and past them was the wooden door to the inner library.

Taking her identifying jade pendant, Xia Ge pressed it into a groove in the door, where the pendant just fit.

The wooden door rose exasperatingly slow, like a yawning mouth, to quietly reveal a passage leading to the library within the hollowed out part of the mountain.

Xia Ge breezed inside like she owned the place, the door leisurely closing behind her.  Thankfully, due to the many lit candles along the stone walls, the passage was not that dark.

“Every time I come in here, I feel like I’m in some super-secret tunnel and at the end, I’ll find a treasure chest that’ll make me rich.”  Xia Ge shook her head and walked to the end, surveying the rows of bookshelves, “Too bad reality is a lot more mundane.”

The system tried to hold its tongue but failed: [……You Could Try Finding A ‘Golden House’ In Here.]

A gold house?

Xia Ge: “Doesn’t exist.”

System: [……Then What Are You Here To Find?]

Xia Ge walked to the ‘History’ section, her lips curving up in a small smile as she eyed the rows upon rows of heavy volumes.

“Clues about the Zhen Hun.”

Studiousness bringing golden houses was a myth.  Many scholars had looked before and only caught illusionary glimpses of that supposed wealth.

For example, Lingxi’s ancestor……

In ancient China, people encouraged scholars by saying,” Golden houses can be found through study. ”
