Squatting up in the Wutong tree, Xia Ge couldn’t help repeatedly yawning as the clouds that’d covered the moon gradually dispersed.  Nothing seemed to be happening, the light within the bamboo house continuing to gleam bright.  But just as Xia Ge decided she’d been overthinking things, and was about to head home with Jianfeng’s persimmons, the door to the bamboo house opened with a small ‘creak.’

There was movement!

Her vigor immediately returning, Xia Ge watched carefully.

Under faint moonlight, a young lady wearing thin clothes stepped out of the house, wooden clogs on her feet, and a wooden sword hanging from her waist.  Her loose clothes revealed a jade-like neck and shoulders, while her wide sleeves were wafting in the mountain air. With damp black hair draped over one shoulder, and wooden clogs exposing her pearly toes, the young lady’s aura was one of complete indolence.

She was none other than Chu Yao.

It seemed that after bathing she’d come out to enjoy the cool breeze

Xia Ge: “……”  Why are you wearing a wooden sword straight out of the bath?  Are you fucking COS?

System: [She’s Very Beautiful.]

Xia Ge knew no shame: “Hey, I’m pretty too, I’m beautiful.”

System: [……]

Xia Ge: “……”

Stretching out from Xia Ge’s pocket, the red ribbon faced Xia Ge and nodded its ‘head’ in solemn agreement.

Xia Ge pushed it back down, saying indifferently: “Your opinion doesn’t count.”

Suddenly Chu Yao’s voice rang out sharply: “Who’s there?!”

Frightened, Xia Ge believed she’d been found out!  Xia Ge launched {ghost and shadow} in a second, and was about to make her getaway, when an impossibly black shadow flashed forward to attack Chu Yao, moonlight reflecting off a cold blade!

So scared that she almost dropped her persimmons, Xia Ge exclaimed: “The fuck?!”

Besides her, there was another lurker?!  Who?  Bairen?  No, wasn’t Bairen supposed to make his move tomorrow?  Who was this?!  What the hell?!

Clang!

Chu Yao reacted with even greater speed. Her wooden sword exuding fierce astral qi, she blocked the opponent’s attacking blade with one hand!

“Tsk,” Chu Yao’s light brown eyes reflected the silvery moon, “Did you come here to try and steal the key, trash?”

Their blow having missed, the black figure said not a word.  Rapidly withdrawing, lingqi burst from the figure’s hand, making their blade vibrate.  Eerie soundwaves emanated from the sword, and the next second, from out of the bamboo forest, a multitude of black shadows burst forth, all of them rushing towards Chu Yao!

Xia Ge’s eyes about popped out of her head: “Why are there so many?!”

She’d been crouching up in the tree for so long, and hadn’t detected them at all!

“Tut-tut.”

Cold light flashed in the depths of Chu Yao’s eyes, and despite her wooden clogs, she attacked the black figure. As the black figure tried to withdraw, Chu Yao pursued them like lightening!  But when the black figure couldn’t shake Chu Yao off, they gave up on retreating and faced Chu Yao directly!

Only then did Xia Ge notice that the other rushing black figures were wearing devilish bronze masks.  With the various weapons in their hands, and the surrounding waves of demonic qi, Xia Ge realized that they were all demon puppets!

Meanwhile, Chu Yao and the first black figure were fiercely engaged, murderous qi spilling out from both of them.  Only Chu Yao was in her thin clothes with nothing but a wooden sword, surrounded by a deadly black figure and demon puppets.  Then Xia Ge suddenly heard the black figure snort.  The next second, their blade revolved in their right hand, ruthlessly suppressing Chu Yao’s wooden sword.  With two fingers of their left hand together, they suddenly shouted: “Set!”

White light rose from the figure’s hand, cold ice spilling over their sword and onto Chu Yao’s wooden sword, freezing her hands in place!  Chu Yao stilled for a second, seemingly caught off guard.  Right at that second, a demon puppet leapt from the shadows, wielding a giant sickle, its gleaming blade slashing straight for Chu Yao’s bare neck!

Her pupils shrinking to pinpoints, Xia Ge almost lost grip of her persimmons!

“Die!”

The black figure laughed maliciously, as cold light flashed yet again in Chu Yao’s eyes.  But before either could move, a ‘bang’ sounded, the demon puppet behind Chu Yao making one shrill howl as something sticky hit its mask, then both the mask and its head exploded into pieces!

The sweet smell of persimmon spread through the air.

“Who?!”  Startled, the black figure seemed to stare blankly, “……persimmon?”

Chu Yao’s lips curled up in a chilling smile: “Why should you worry about who?  Look, your grandma is right here!”

The ice trapping Chu Yao’s hands shattered, and her wooden sword, covered in frost, abruptly slashed at the black figure’s neck!

——Boom!

Rushing to protect the black figure, it was a demon puppet who took Chu Yao’s fatal blow, its body completely halved at the waist by the wooden sword!

But the other demon puppets did not give up, surging towards Chu Yao like a roiling tide.  While the black figure, assessing the situation, finally did withdraw, leaving Chu Yao trapped within an encirclement of demon puppets!

Xia Ge thought of Li Liu: “Hmm, probably because the guard was led westwards?”

With demon puppets behind her and demon puppets before her, Chu Yao wasn’t going anywhere.  While Xia Ge was still up in the tree, giving the situation a cursory appraisal.  Good lord, was the Demon Sect willing to spend a lot money to get that key.  Every last demon puppet was B-rank.  Good thing Xia Ge had recently leveled up, otherwise the persimmon she’d thrown wouldn’t have had the same effect.

But now that Chu Yao was being hindered by the demon puppets, the black figure was about enter Chu Yao’s bamboo house.  Quickly covering the lower half of her face with black cloth, Xia Ge jumped down, slashing straight at the black figure’s head with her sickle!

“Stop right there!”

——Clack!

Sickle and sword exchanged a blow.  Although the black figure’s sword wasn’t huge, it had immense power behind it, and Xia Ge, relying only her own inner spiritual force, was sent flying up in the sky!  Forced to flip her body in midair a couple times, Xia Ge finally righted herself, smacking her lips.

She hadn’t expected the black figure’s strength to be that formidable, for she’d seen Chu Yao easily handle them with a wooden sword.  Therefore, Xia Ge had underestimated the black figure and now she’d gotten herself hurtled up into the air.

Embarrassing.

Laughing grimly, the black figure leapt up with alarming agility and speed, coldly glinting sword aimed directly at Xia Ge’s head!

“Get out of the way!”
