Lucky Riot And The Mystic Dragon

Chapter 71 - The Deep End

When it was Lucky's turn to receive his trial medallion, Instructor Phenomenal Maze looked him deep in his eyes, and he spoke solemnly, "You must take care in this trial, Riot. Once you return, you will be a member of my section of the warrior class, as I see you have now reached the eighth level. Be careful out there. The Deep End is full of hidden perils, anyone of you could die on this trip. Just as others have before. Those of you from our academy need to take care of each other."

Lucky Riot felt goosebumps run down his back. Students had died not during the trials, but just as a result of the environment outside? That was mad. How dangerous was this Disaster Valley?

Half an hour later, Lucky Riot was riding in a mobile abode that appeared to be a big crate with a door on the front from the outside. However, inside, it was actually quite an elegant studio apartment with beautiful decorations and comfortable furniture. The seats were soft, and there was plenty of space, enough for five people to stretch out with ease. From the big window on the side, Lucky was able to view the world outside! Yet from the world outside, one could not even see a window on this crate.

It was as if the crates were cargo in a caravan's hoverboat.

In front of them, the barrier formations covering the gate deactivated one by one, before the 20 meter tall County Wall Gateway opened and revealed the outside world. The Nibiru City Magic Caravan was a hoverboat comprised of twenty-two crate type mobile abodes and two cottage type mobile abodes, all made with hovercraft technology. They were docked securely on the boat's large hoverbay. The Magic Caravan looked like a ship that was being led by the strength of seventeen powerful mystic beasts.

"So this… is the Deep End of Disaster Valley?" said Lucky in awe. Outside of the county wall, it was like an entirely new world for Lucky Riot! Inside the wall, the skies had an emerald hue unless you were looking directly above. However, outside, everything was clear and crystal blue. The plains stretched out as far as Lucky's eyes could see, and he was truly impressed as he loaded his things onto his a mobile abode with Aubrey and the other students.

The Thoth Academy group was finally departing for the trials!

Two hours later…

On an enormous stretch of grassland, there was a sizable caravan made up of one large hoverboat full of mobile abodes and four carriages that also hovered above the ground. Below the deck of the hoverboat, seventeen stallion-sized creatures that were covered in black and silver serpentine scales powered to the hoverboat's power grid by running and releasing mystic essence. They were like a cross between a horse and an alligator and moved at an incredibly swift pace on a treadmill connected to the power grid. Their momentum and energy pulled this magical caravan along.

These were Rank 1 Mystic Beasts, the Midnight Alligallion!

The Midnight Alligallion was a sturdy and uncommon mystic beast mount that was descendant of the legendary Dragon Horse, an Infinity Beast. Infinity Beasts were myths among myths. The mysterious beasts that the entire Avaria feared are only the impure offspring of an Infinity Beast's descendant. Professor Clear Sky had explained this to Lucky quite clearly. Even three of the carriages possessed one Midnight Alligallion, each for a total of twenty beasts. Only Hur Frenzy's wagon was pulled by a Rank 1 Golden Great Lion. The feline creature stood large and majestic at four meters tall.

The mobile abodes of the caravan were strung together by thin chains that glowed with mystical symbols. Several armed experts surrounded the group of eager youths among the dwellings. The Patriarchs all journeyed in the leading carriages. Meanwhile, the Deans and Magi were in the lead abode, which looked like a luxurious cottage on a floating trailer. Meanwhile, all the different students and family disciples rode inside one of the twenty-two abodes or on the hoverbay directly, looking through the transparent floor at the beasts and power grid below.

The caravan came to a stop before an endless sea of tall trees. Beyond this incredible forest, the slight silhouette of mountain peaks could be seen in the distance. A tall young man in vermillion training armor was chatting with a beauty wearing the same armor in turquoise. The young man possessed a very masculine demeanor but had a young face that looked to be around 16-17 years old, while the beauty seemed to be approximately 15 years old.

"You mean those mountains are actually so tall?"

"Yeah, my mom used to bring me abroad every year using her Midnight Falconian. I've seen it a lot."

"You guys actually have a Midnight Falconian? Finding a clan member of the dark element Falconians is said to be super rare."

"We also have a Midnight Water Bear. I call him Squishy, he's my little sister's contract beast."

"Chevy, right? My cousin, Robin Banks, was just telling me about his crush at the school. If I'm not mistaken, her name was…"

"Didn't I see your dad pick you up from the academy one afternoon on a young Falconian? Which clan was it?"

"Oh, you saw it? That was a Silverlight Falconian, a rare polar attributed beast. She's supposed to be my mount once I reach Gold Rank 1 Apprentice Magus."

"Polar attributes? What's that?"

"That's what you call it when two opposing forces exist in harmony."

"Ah! Like fire and ice."

"Exactly. My Silverlight Falconian possesses both frost and light elements. Two forces that usually conflict have been fused into a power symbol by this special beast."

"If only my bloodline resonated with Dreadla the same as with these Midnight Alligallions."

The young beauty's long black hair was tied into a pony-tail today, forgoing her usual pig-tail style. Her light brown skin looked soft and supple, as the flirtatious glint in her eyes made all the young men watching extremely envious. Why did this bastard named Lucky always get to talk to the angels? She obviously accompanied the young man in standing at the front of the caravan to observe the Rank 1 Midnight Alligallions, as she had yet to even glance at anything but Lucky since they stopped.

"So, you mean to say these Midnight Alligallions have something that resonates with your fey bloodline?" asked the beautiful Aubrey Graham as she stared into the bright hazel eyes of Kasino.

"No, not all of them. Just the one in the front with golden scales on its legs," Lucky Riot felt a very curious pulsation in his blood when he first laid eyes on this creature.

It was a strange feeling that made him have goodwill toward that creature, while simultaneously wanting to obtain and absorb its source blood essence. These were two completely separate feelings that seem to originate from the same place, it was somewhat confusing. He felt compelled to walk up to this position for that very reason. Once he got close, he realized that the other sixteen mounts simply didn't give him this feeling. Only the leader did!

"Could it be that your half-lizard?" teased Aubrey with her tongue out. However, in her mind, she was thinking, 'well, he's definitely a half horse.'

"I'm all lizard, little miss president. I even have the tongue," replied Lucky mischievously with a wicked smile. Aubrey's face flushed, even redder, and she averted her gaze. She needed to avoid being taken advantage of by this surprisingly bad Kasino. Meanwhile, the latter was scanning the strongest Midnight Alligallion with his psyche.

To his shock, this particular Midnight Alligallion was a Rank 2 fey beast! Unlike its companions who were all mystic beasts, this Rank 2 Midnight Alligallion possessed a variation bloodline. This powerful bloodline made this beast a fey, meaning it could cultivate itself. Unfortunately, Lucky was unable to identify this beast's subrank. However, he was confident that this mystic beast was as powerful as a top-level Profound Orb Stage warrior or a Gold Rank 2: Novice Magus, at the very least. In fact, it was likely a bit stronger! For Lucky, fey beasts and fey bloodline ranks weren't as difficult to distinguish as he only had to sense the strength of their lifeblood or biomagnetic field.

The lifeblood and biomagnetic field of this Midnight Alligallion were more robust than his own by quite a bit, unlike its sixteen companions. That was evidence enough that this was a Rank 2 fey beast at the very least. Unfortunately, Lucky Riot could feel the bloodline resonance with this creature was weak.

To his shock, the beast even avoided his gaze. It was as if it disdained Lucky's strength but remained afraid to offend him. Most mystic beasts looked at him without any fear what so ever. Most of them didn't even notice or take an interest until he approached their leader. This made all of them grow a bit restless. However, the Rank 2 Midnight Alligallion didn't protest to Lucky's presence even a little bit.

Upon seeing the unusually pathetic state of the leading beast's divine bloodline, Lucky became totally relaxed, pitying this wretched beast. It had some potential but was now being used as a mere mule captain. He had a slight urge to free it, but he quickly dismissed such an irrational impulse.

Maybe there would be a chance later.
