My Life In Blue Exorcist

Chapter 17 - Kuro

When I was on my way back from delivering the bokkens to the dojo, I realise I don't have anything to preoccupy my brain anymore so I started thinking about the future events the world was gonna have and how I'd deal with them.

I walked past a lady feeding a black cat on the street and it got me thinking about Kuro, the Demons and the Exwires.

I could just train myself and let the events happen naturally or I could gain some allies to train with. I could also make a different faction from the Demons and the Order, and deal with the events more effectively and make sure the other two factions are in line since this world's full of crazy people.

Honestly, if I had to choose which faction to join, I'd pick the Order but even then I don't want to be a tool for their disposal. The Demons aren't even any better as they only want me to be a vessel for their lord Satan, in order to conquer Assiah for whatever stupid reason this Satan has. Well there's no way I'm letting any of them decide my fate or choose what kind of life I live. I've had enough of that from my past life.

I would prefer doing the third option to keep both the Order and the Demons in line but I don't know who I could train or even trust. I already have Midori and I'm sure he'll agree but we cant challenge the entire order and the Demons by ourselves.

The Cram Students seem like a good idea but I don't know if I can rely on them or trust them. Problem is I don't have a good relationship with any of them yet so i can't just say "Hey, join my organisation where we make sure the Order and the Demons don't do anything drastic". Yep, they'll definitely think I'm a weirdo if I don't have anything that backs up my point. I guess I need to prove my claim before scouting out the Cram School students.

While having thoughts like these I ended up walking back to the cram school where we learned about grimoires and holy scriptures. I used this as a chance to distract myself again by memorising the fatal verses for certain Demons.

When it was time for lesson to finish I hung out with Kamiki and Paku before going to train my Swordsmanship and Demon Aura.

Without noticing it time flew by so I headed back to the dormitory where I got dressed and ate before going to sleep. While I was lying on my bed, thought like the future events still lingered in my mind as I'm not sure how I'll manage to grow my faction. Since I couldn't sleep I decided to have a little chat with Yukio.

(Rin): "Hey Yukio, since father was a Paladin what kind of familiars did he have?"

It's been on my mind since Mephisto mentioned the Paladin rank requires all five meisters. Since he had a tamer meister, I wonder how many familiars he had.

(Yukio): "I assume you got that information from Mephisto. Yes, father was a Paladin and had a Cat Sidhe for a familiar that guards the Southern Rear Entrance of the Academy."

Oh, so it's only kuro.

(Rin): "So have you met the familiar before?"

(Yukio): "I have once, a few years ago, when it was terrorising the Construction Site. The Demon was once a Deity that helped local Silk Farmers since ancient times from having their Silkworms being consumed or from other disasters. It received festivals and offerings, and lived peacefully with humans. But as the times changed, silk cultivation became outdated, so people forgot about the Deity that once protected their business. Then on one fateful day a certain company claimed that land and decided to develop the land his shrine once stood on. Enraged, the Cat Deity attacked the Construction site workers and destroyed their equipment. The locals turned to the True Cross Academy who sent a team lead by our father to deal with the Demon. But outside of everyone's expectation, father was able to calm the Demon down and even made a contract with him."

Yukio starts talking about the Kuro and his history of once being a deity of worship before being forgotten. People really are trash for forgetting favours like that. The more Yukio spoke about him, the more I felt bad for him just staying there, Waiting for a man who can't come back to him.

(Rin): "What happens to a Demon when they lose their master?"

(Yukio): "When a Demon loses their master they go back to their original nature. Afterall a Demon is a Demon, without a master they either look for another contract or cause havoc for the people nearby."

(Rin): "...Then what would you do if he goes back to his original nature? I'm sure father wouldn't want him to be exorcised."

I'm trying to convince Yukio to help kuro. I'm not trying to act like a hero or anything but I feel bad for him. Plus if I could get him to join my faction than it would help me a lot for training and for starting the faction. Hmm i might need to think of a name later on.

(Yukio): "Father left me something to deal with him if he ever finds out. When the time comes than I'll exorcise him."

Haaah, I keep on forgetting this guy has something against demons, even though he's technically half demon like myself. I guess duty is more important than feelings, huh. I don't think I'll ever understand that.

(Rin): "Do you mind if I can see what father left behind? I'm sure it's nothing drastic like killing his Familiar. Maybe it's something to calm him down, you know."

(Yukio): "Fine, as long as you're behaving well i guess i could let you see. Oh, how's school going for you?"

(Rin): "It's going well, I got Yanno to help me a tonne, so look forward to my grades for midterms!"

Well midterms still a month away, but oh well. And with that I finally fell asleep.

The next day was a Saturday so I slept in a bit and carried out my usual morning routine minus making any food for the business. Since I've gotten better control over my flames now I'm experimenting on what I can do with it and makes some new moves that the original rin didn't make. I have a few ideas in mind but doing it is more difficult than thinking about it.

In the afternoon we had Cram School lessons from 12 to 3:30 and when it was finally over, I went with Yukio and Midori to the teachers office.

The office is a shared office with other teachers hanging around, finishing off their reports or other work. When we went to Yukio's desk he opened one of the drawer and pulled out something inside a black bag.

It looks like a canister that used to store Holy Water but I already knew what it is and when I smelled it, it confirmed it.

So that's what catnip wine smells like. Smells... skunky with a bit of lemon.

(Rin): "Yukio do you mind if I hold it?"

Yukio gives me a questioning look before debating with himself whether to give me the canister or not.

(Yukio): "... Fine. Just make sure you you be careful and don't hurt yourself."

(Rin): "No problem."

I opened the lid of the canister and there's a grenade inside it. I unscrew the top of the granade and the smell increased.

(Rin): "I'm pretty sure this isn't a grenade for killing Yukio. Here smell it."

I could tell Yukio's surprised just by looking at his face but I don't want to hear anymore of his lectures. So before Yukio could even say anything I brought the canister to his face and forced him to smell what's inside. When he realised the contents inside, he looked at me in shock and with an expression wondering how I found out.

(Rin): "Don't mess with a Demons nose, okay. Let's head to the Southern Entrance. I want to see the little guy and talk to him about our father."

I pointed at my nose as I walk away from Yukio's desk. I honestly don't want to hear anymore of his nagging so I swiftly left a dazed Yukio in the teachers office and headed to the southern entrance.

(Yukio): "Wait Nii-san!"

Yukio caught up to soon but surprisingly he didn't say anything throughout the entire walk. I wonder what's on his mind.

After walking for close to an hour we finally reached the front gate. The entrance isn't much with the walls, yellow and white. Luckily there's no vehicles on the road, so if there is a fight or if Kuro transforms there won't be many people that would get involved or much collateral damage.

(Rin): "Excuse me, we would like to have a chat with the Cat Familiar other there."

I speak to one of the Guards at the entrance. He looks like a middle aged man with brown hair and a thick moustache wearing the normal Security Guard uniform.

I somehow convinced him to let me to go and speak with Kuro when I mentioned speaking to him about father. Seems like the Security Guard cares quite a bit for Kuro, huh.

I walk towards Kuro after leaving Midori with Yukio and the Security Guard. Kuro's standing at the railing just like in the anime and facing forward, staring at the long road.

Koru's a black cat with the lower half of his face covered with chocolate brown fur, while his c.h.e.s.t and upper right leg has white fur. He has greenish-yellow sclera and green irises as well as two small green horns on his head wearing a pendant with the true cross logo on it.

As I approached him, he stands on guard with his tail in the air, probably because he realises i'm a demon but he doesn't say anything yet.

(Rin): "Hey there. Your Shiro Fujimoto's familiar, right?"

Kuro looks at me with a curious look while still maintaining his posture as I shake the canister in my right hand.

(Rin): "Nice to meet you. My names Rin Okumura, one of Shiro's sons."

(Kuro): "Your Shiro's Son! Nice to meet you! My names Kuro!"

Are all Cat Demons energetic? He undoes his posture and relaxes his tail as he tilts his head to his question.

(Kuro): "But why do you have Shiro's Catnip Wine? It shouldn't be the twentieth yet."

Oh so father used to visit him on the twentieth, huh.

(Rin): "I'll talk about that later. Wanna have a some first? Let's have a chat."

I pulled out a small bowl, that I prepared beforehand, from my bag and poured some of the content into the bowl.

As soon as I poured some of the wine into the bowl, Kuro jumped off his guard post and immediately started devouring the contents in the bowl.

I guess he's still a cat before he's a Demon.

(Rin): "So how did you become fathers familiar?"

While he was drinking the wine I started having a minor chat with him about father and about how they met. He sounds drunk while he was speaking about how he met with father but continued speaking with a lot of enthusiasm. I can tell from his tone that he loved father dearly.

(Rin): "About my father, you should know about what happened to him and the reason why I'm here today."

I looked at kuro in the eyes before i continue speaking. I think he already has some clues on what I'm about to say but I have to tell him so he doesn't have any false hopes.

(Rin): "About a week ago father passed away. He died in the line of duty protecting me."

There was an awkward silence when I said those words that lasted for a few seconds, during that silence I can feel the anger in kuro increase as his aura becomes chaotic.

(Kuro): "You're a liar! There's no way Shiro's dead!"

Kuro runs across me and faces me before glaring at me and slowly transforming into his Nekomata form, an enlarged version of himself. Just like Midori, he easily grows taller than me.

Midori is on the sidelines watching this unfold since I told him not to interfere if Kuro decides to attack me and Yukio just watches it unfolds with his hands on his pistols, ready to shoot if i require his assistance.

(Rin): "Trust me, I understand how you feel but you have to face reality! He's dead! I know you loved him and so did I, but you need to move on! Trust me, I'm the same as you."

I still haven't gotten over the old man's death yet. I've been distracting myself with stuff to keep me preoccupied but I need to follow my own advice and move on.

(Rin): "I can tell that you loved father dearly, so that makes us brothers. Let's not disappoint our father, okay?"

I tried my best to give a reassuring smile to help calm down kuro. He's like the past me, who was struggling to face reality after my grandparents died and being forced to live with my unloving mother.

(Kuro): "Shiro's... Shiro's dead...?...Shiro's dead...!"

Kuro transformed back into his normal cat form and jumps into my c.h.e.s.t, crying his eyes out. He's like a little kid. I comforted him by stroking his head until he finally pulled himself together but he's sniffling.

Yukio still watching us in deep thought and Midori is just smiling at us, probably happy about having a new friend. When Yukio notices my questioning stare he just gives me another fake smile before talking to me.

(Yukio): "Good work Nii-san. You caught me by surprise with how easy that went."

(Rin): "Hey Kuro, would you like to make a contract with me?"

I nodded at Yukio's statement before asking Kuro the question. If he accepts I'm curious on what changes will happen to him.

(Kuro): "A contract? Umm... Sure."

I performed the ritual once again and named him Kuro since I didn't have any names prepared. Plus I like calling Kuro and I don't want to get confused with another name.

(Rin): "Seems like our little family's increased again, huh."

I wonder how many more Demons I'll be able to tame. I'm not aiming to tame every Demon I see but if they're willing I'd like them to help me deal with the future event. For the fate of the world or whatever.

I honestly couldn't care much about the world but I don't want anyone to disturb my peaceful life.

Afterall every new experience I have makes me love my new life even more.
