48. You are really Good at Stiring People Up (2)

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

Nian Gao got much more excited as he beat Bao Ye continuously like venting his frustration on him and a content expression appeared on his face.

Dongling Ce put down his chopsticks and looked at the stage silently.

When Nian Gao’s whip stroke on the baby’s face, Bao Ye suddenly stopped crying. He held the baby tightly despite of the slashing, then raised his head again a good while, kissed on the baby’s face with pampers, tidied the baby’s hair, and placed the baby on the ground carefully.

The slaves under the stage were all grieved at the scene. With the sad music, their tears welled up in their eyes.

Suddenly, Bao Ye raised his head and glared at Nian Gao with his furious, reddened eyes.

Nian Gao was shocked by his fierce look and couldn’t help to step back.

Bao Ye rose to his feet slowly.

To maintain his dignity as a deacon, Nian Gao slashed at Bao Ye again.

Bao Ye got hold of his whip and pulled it hard, then he beat Nian Gao fiercely with his fists, as if he was unleashing all the anger and pain he suffered for ages.

“Good job!” Some slaves couldn’t help to shout out, “Beat him to death!”

These words ignited the anger of the slaves. They forgot about the owner and deacons monitored them and shouted out “kill him” furiously. Some threw their bowls and chopsticks on the stage, some even wanted to climb on the stage, but were held back by the deacons.

The climax of the scene arrived in a second, with flying bowls and chopsticks, shouting and yelling.

The play gave the slaves a vent not only for the pains they suffered in the past, but also for the fear in the god’s game, and the injury and loss caused by the thunder and lightnings.

“The slaves want to rebel!” Deacon Tao said angrily.

Dongling Ce glimpsed at him lazily. He didn’t care about the chaos made by the slave. “Are we so short of water that the slave can’t have a simple bowl of water?” Dongling Ce asked the deacon suddenly.

He believed that the reason why Bao Ye’s performance could reach resonance with the slaves was that they must had experienced the same thing before.

Deacon Tao was stunned for a while and stammered the truth, “It…it…it’s because the deacons. They released their superiority and…and the maltreatment they received on the inferior slaves.”

“They are slaves as well.” Snorted Dongling Ce.

“Your Majesty, I’ll stop them.”

Dongling Ce didn’t refuse his proposal. He curved his lips at Bao Ye, who was beating Nian Gao, and said, “You are really good at stirring people up.”

Noticing about the uncontrollable chaos, Bao Ye pulled Nian Gao to run from the stage.

Lao Liu came to them. He patted at Nian Gao’s shoulder and smiled, “Your performance was fabulous, I was about to beat you just now.”

Nian Gao snorted. “Are you OK?” Looked at the wounds on Bao Ye, Nian Gao asked unnaturally.

He beat Bao Ye with full force when they were on the stage. He didn’t want to beat him so heavily even though he had thought of beating him for a long time. He couldn’t do it if it were not Bao Ye’s asking and the owner’s monitoring.

Bao Ye nodded to ask his question. Noticing that Dongling Ce was looking at him, Bao Ye walked towards him.

“Good job. A pantomime makes the slaves fight back at the deacons.” Dongling Ce sized him up and down and commented ironically.

Bao Ye chuckled with a pretended stupid face. He was contented about the chaos he had evoked. His performance told the slaves that rebelling the deacons were not that scary.

“From your performance, you must be thinking about rebelling against your owners for quite a long time.”

Bao Ye just grinned without saying a word.

Dongling Ce was pissed off by his smiling face without response in words. But he had to endure the anger since it was him who commanded Bao Ye not to speak throughout the day.

It took a good while for the deacons to calm down the slaves.

The slaves were feared of being killed by the deacons after they calmed down and remembered what they did. But they couldn’t resist the excitement in their heart.

The chaos of the day sowed a small seed of rebelling inside of them.

Since Dongling Ce warned the gods by casting a teacup, the thunders and lightnings stopped. The world returned calm as if the game of gods had ended.

Bao Ye was surprised that his mischief could bring safety to the slaves.

However, the peace didn’t last for long.

At the noon of the next day, breezes sprang up, which took away the swelter from the slaves and brought them smile. But as time went by, the breeze increased to strong wind which hindered everyone from opening their eyes.

Nian Gao stared blankly outside the window, seeing the twigs on the tree at the gate were waved by the wind, he called back his consciousness and muttered, “Strong wind.”

As the wind became stronger and stranger, Nian Gao couldn’t help to remember what Bao Ye said the days before. He turned around in shock and stared at Bao Ye, who was chatting with Lao Liu, “The wind disaster is coming.”
