69. Too Cruel (1)

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

Three figures appeared in front of the patriarch. They looked like ordinary people, only the pointy ears and longer canines gave out their identity.

They are top devils. Among the semi-devils, the more good-looking ones owned the higher social status as well as the power almost equivalent with the gods in the Upper World. The man in the black shirt was extremely handsome, with black hair covered his shoulders. He tucked the hair on the left behind his left ear and stared at the jade in the box seriously.

The patriarch couldn’t help to kneel on the ground, “Your, your, your, your majesty…”

Others were all scared to kneel.

He is the young master of semi-devils, Jiu Yin. Bao Ye knew him and quickly kneeled in case of being caught. He was more curious about the thing in the box.

“Where did you get it?” Asked Jiu Yin.

The patriarch didn’t dare to tell lies, “One year ago, I dragged it from the pool of the devil during my worship there. I thought it must be the treasure from the mighty devils.”

In the war between the devils and the gods, the emperor of the devil sunk the deceased devil generals into the pool, thus, the semi-devils worshiped at the pool every year.

Jiu Yin sneered, “Treasure…”

The patriarch was nervous, “Is…isn’t it?”

Jiu Yin glimpsed at him, “Kinds of. But it is useful for us too, I’ll take it.”

“As you wish, you Majesty.”

Jiu Yin glanced over the ruined village and lifted his right hands slightly. The power spread out and the village quickly recovered.

The semi-devils were all excited and kneeled to show their gratitude, “Thank you, your Majesty, thank you, your highness.”

Jiu Yin and other two top devils turned around and left.

Looking at the semi-devils, Bao Ye felt it ironic: the merciful gods treat people as animals, and cast disasters at will for fun, but the devils saves people and rebuild people’s house. How ironic.

The male semi-devil said to Bao Ye happily, “Let’s go, I don’t need to build the house, let me take you to find the herb you want.”

He led Bao Ye into a small forest in the south where the Toxin Expelling fruits were flourished. He picked up one fruit and threw it into his mouth, “The fruits here are our after-meal desserts. They are tasty. Oh, by the way, my name is Gubu, what’s your name?”

“Bao Ye.” Bao Ye filled his sack with the fruits and asked, “Do you know where is the Frozen Grass and Blood Ganoderma?”

“Over there.” Gubu took him to ground where the Frost Grass grew, “The grass makes you cold, the Blood Ganoderma makes your nose bleed, why do you need them?”

“Eating them seperately causes that. But if you boil the three herbs together, it is medicine,” Bao Ye thought for a while and continued, “If you see someone covered with black spots, got a fever and the bleeding black blood, you can cure him or her with this recipe.”

Gubu was surprised, “Do they really cure people?”

“Of course, don’t look down on each herb, their mixture makes good medicines.”

“You really know a lot!”

Bao Ye explained the effect of the herb as he collected it. Gubu also took notes seriously, when it came to something he missed, he let Bao Ye repeat for him.

As the chatting went on, all the sacks were filled.

Bao Ye stayed at Gubu’s house that night, but when they woke up the next day, the Forest of Fallen became a world of water. The water reached their calves and grew higher and higher. It seemed that the river dam was opened and releasing the water it saved.

The water damaged a part of the plants and covered their sight.

Bao Ye had to return to the construction site although there was one day’s leave left for his herb collection. He put all the herbs into Dongling Ce’s office.

When he returned to the sanity department, the water level rose for 10 centimeters.

“Luckily, I told my elder sister in the morning that if the flood comes, they can hide in our site.” Lao Liu said in relief.

Nian Gao followed, “I told my parents too, they’ve prepared a boat. But my father fears that their coming will make his majesty angry, they don’t dare to come now.”

“The anger is better than losing life.” Lao Liu said.

Wang Qiao was worried, “We can’t go back today, I’m afraid that my son will cry tonight.”

Bao Ye walked in and said, “Coming here is not perfectly safe.”

Lao Liu became nervous, “Couldn’t the shield of our owner resist the flood?”

Bao Ye frowned, “Haven’t you thought about if the grains here are enough?”

With so many people, the stored grains could hardly support their need. If the flood lingered and they were in short of grains, it would be worse.

Nian Gao said proudly, “My father had considered about it long ago! They will come with grains.”

Bao Ye snorted, “How many grains can he bring here? How many people would these grains support? If everyone is starving, your grains will be a target.”

Fighting each other for the food maybe the most preferred scene for the gods.

Nian Gao turned pale.

Lao Liu and Wang Qiao were all gloomy, “What should we do?”

Bao Ye, “…”
