Other Dimension's Knight

Chapter 19 - XIX: Arrogance

" You mongrel, you shall pay for this isolence towards your king. " said Gilgamesh as numerous weapons appeared from the gates.

" Saber, take Shirou out of here. " said Alexander.

" Understood. " said Saber as she picked up Shirou to flee.

At the same moments, hundreds of weapons came towards Alexander very quickly, but Alexander was faster. His A+++ stat in agility wasn't for nothing. He dashed towards the King of Heroes will dodging the literal bullets coming his way. The distance between the two of them was great, but for Alexander it was still quite close. The closer he went the harder it became to dodge the weapons. Moreover, Gilgamesh was getting angry at the sight of Alexander dodging his attacks, so he summoned even more gates.

Unfortunately, his arrogance has always been his weakness, therefore he thought that he didn't need to draw Ea or even Enkidu for that matter, but Alexander was getting closer. He didn't need to use Mana Burst on his leg since he needed to increase his speed continiously so he used something else. Millions of what seemed to be magic circuits spread on his legs, and glowed in a golden light. It couldn't be called reinforcement, as it was simply too strong to be a basic but useful magecraft. Alexander's speed came close to doubling with the spell he just used, and barely any reinforcement spell could do that feat, even pushed to the maximum.

This increase surprised Gilgamesh, who finally sensed danger. But it was too late. By the time Ea appeared, his arm was already cut and a blade was too close for comfort from his neck, finishing the job.

It was the easiest fight Alexander had since a while. Gilgamesh was arguably one of the strongest servant, but he was himself quite weak, most of his strength coming from his divinity. Compared to warriors who trained for their whole life on the battlefield or not, Gilgamesh was simply lacking, to be called a hero on this aspect. His strength came from his treasury and what lied within it. But as Alexander did, there was no use if the opponent didn't let him take his weapon out or if his arrogance prevented him from even using them.

If you add both condition, what you get is this kind of ending, a pitiful one for someone hailed as the king of heroes. Alexander sheathed his weapon, and saw Saber coming towards him. But she gasped when she saw the body of Gilgamesh, beheaded and starting to disappear at the foot of Alexander. She, among the servant of this war, knew how strong Gilgamesh was, and although she held Alexander in high regards, she didn't except him to kill Gilgamesh in a matter of seconds and even without drawing his true weapon.

" Did you ... actually defeated him ? " asked Saber, not believing what happened.

" Obviously, I took advantage of his arrogance. " said Alexander.

Gilgamesh obviously didn't know who had the weapon who released the pressure he felt earlier, and although he arrived at the scene rather quickly, he didn't think it was Alexander but more Saber since the feeling that exuted the white-haired knight was too weak. Alexander in fact did an excellent job at masking his power and presence although he was a knight and not an assasssin.

With this, Alexander sucessfully destroyed the biggest threats present in this war in a single night. Ironically, most of the people aware of the Holy Grail War didn't even register the presence of Gilgamesh since he got killed as soon as he made his introduction in the war.

---------------------------------------------------

Alexander astralized on the way home, to not alert Sakura but they will have to inform her anyway sometime, to fix her problem. The threats were gone, so Alexander planned to use the limited time he had here to win this war quickly and go to the real battlefield.

Saber still supported her master that was injured, as Alexander's heals were quite weak and couldn't heal these type of wounds, but clearly didn't except to see Sakura under the rain waiting for them, seemingly crying when she saw Shirou's state.

She dropped her umbrella to the ground and ran towards Shirou. It was late, and if Sakura's eye could tell, she has been waiting under the rain for a while now. Saber didn't know what to say to Sakura, and she realized that while Sakura didn't seem to have any ressentment against her and simply wished to help her senior, she really was blaming Saber for this situation. After all, she knew what getting into the Grail War means, but she was free from the ritual right now, and she couldn't sense her grandfather's presence looming around anymore, although her first and foremost wish was for Shirou to not endanger himself like he did, she couldn't lie and say that her current condition lifted a bit of the weight that has been on her shoulders for so many years.

She also hoped that her grandfather's disappearance was only a coincidence as otherwise it would mean that there was a possibility that Shirou knew about her dark secret, and that was something she clearly didn't want to happen. She kept telling herself that she didn't deserve Shirou for all these years, but she couldn't help but be attracted by him aswell. He was to her what Kiritsugu was to him, to a certain extent, except that she didn't see herself worthy of such a thing.... Or that's what she kept telling herself.

She carried Shirou instead of Saber and entered the room, leaving a dumbfounded and somewhat guilty Saber behind.

Shirou would have to sleep for a bit and also not move for a couple of days. The hospital would do not much to change that. Although Alexander realized a while ago that Avalon was inside his master, the effect of the artifact was severely diminished from what he remembers and even that was only when Saber, the original wielder was around. Otherwise a wound like this would be healed in a matter of second on Saber. Then again, he wasn't the one meant for this sheath, no matter for how long it has been inside of him, so the effects made sense.

Alexander now knew that Caster and Lancer were the last obstacle in the war, since he knew he could easily defeat Berserker and Archer if he needed to. But he needed to know what happened between the little white-haired homonculus and his master before. Also, he knew that the master of Berserker was a lesser version of the grail, so she didn't really have that long to live anyway.

The night was calm in the Emiya residence, but as the darkness of the Holy Grail War was fading away confronted to the light of the Sword Saint, another conflict kept getting darker than ever under the shadow of the Fae's Friend.
