Other Dimension's Knight

Chapter 36 - XXXVI: The Return Of The Shadow

While Alexander and Artoria were talking, Shirou woke up with empty eyes. Yesterday completely shattered the only motive that pushed him to push to live tomorrow. His whole existence revolved around an idea, yet Alexander said that he was just faking it. When the immense anger passed, the realization hit him and left him dejected.

Shirou peeled off the numerous bandages he had around his shoulder and arm as his injury finally healed. Although for him it took quite the amount of time, a normal person could never hope to heal from this scale of injury at all. If it wasn't for his abnormal healing speed, he probably wouldn't have made it in the first place.

The first scar he ever had in his life was a horrible mark between his arm and his shoulder. During his life every scar would just disappear, it wouldn't even leave one, to begin with, but this injury was different. Not only was there a scar, Shirou even had the feeling that it would stay with him his whole life. At least he could still move his arm perfectly. Tossing in the bin the bandages that had only a little bit of blood due to being changed regularly, he put on his shirt and opened his door, the discussions of the day before still very fresh in his mind.

Shirou decided to first check on Sakura, as she had stayed with him for a long time after he shut himself in his room. Although it didn't work, she at least tried to calm him down and help him, so he owned her this to the least.

" Sakura ! " called Shirou while knocking on her door. Sakura was currently using the first guest room while Rin was sleeping in the second, just next to her. Rin was still recovering from her near-death experience so Shirou didn't want to scream to let her rest correctly.

Seeing that Sakura wasn't answering, Shirou decided to enter the room by himself. When he stepped in, the crowded yet neat room Sakura lived in didn't stop him from staring at the scene unfolding in front of him. Sakura was quite endowed compared to her sister, or most people for that matter, and she liked to sleep with not many clothes on, judging from her appearance. Her top was that of a pajama, but it was so open that her being in a simple bra would not make much difference, and she didn't wear the down part of the outfit.

Shirou, being a teenager, was greatly fl.u.s.tered by the scene, but immediately left the room as Sakura was slowly waking up. Shirou didn't need much sleep, but they stayed up pretty late so Sakura was having a hard time waking up.

Apparently, the heavy conversation of yesterday was rapidly forgotten in the mind of the 16-year-old boy when confronted with Sakura's body.

In the dojo, Alexander and Artoria suddenly stopped talking when Alexander abruptly stood up and was looking at a certain direction. Although it looked like he was just staring at a wall, Artoria wasn't duped and had long since realized what kind of powers Alexander possessed. His vision was probably the most striking since it seemed like he could see anything.

Seeing Alexander frowning, Artoria couldn't help but ask him what was troubling him. " Angra Mainyu is back at eating souls to empower himself, " revealed Alexander. Artoria raised her eyebrows at the name, searching in her memory for such a mention, but didn't find anything. She followed Alexander out of the dojo since it seemed like they would have to fight, considering the demeanor of the white-haired knight. She had spent quite the amount of time observing him during this war, as her curiosity was killing her since she couldn't force him to speak. So she tried to uncover the truth by orthodox ways, such as focusing on her connection to the Grail for example, but none of them worked, unfortunately. Thanks to that, she has started to understand his habits and so on.

Fighting was seemingly ingrained in his bones, Artoria thought, as every time he needed to resolve a conflict by fighting, it was as if his aura changed, and since she observed him for a while, she could now detect these sort of changes in him.

" Who is Angra Mainyu ? " asked Artoria, as she still didn't know this supposed enemy.

" The shadow that we fought a little while ago... If I'm not mistaken, he is also the god, more specifically daemon controlling the Holy Grail and corrupting it. He has taken the form of a pseudo-servant in this war and his alleged master is Sakura, " said Alexander, his beautiful lion armor appearing. Being attracted to such a sight before processing the information, Artoria realized the numerous similarities Alexander's plate armor had with plate armor of her era, further cementing the fact that Alexander and herself were of the same time.

" Is she controlling this shadow or is Angra Mainyu simply latching onto her ? " asked Artoria, being unable to think of any suspicious actions from Sakura.

" He is latching onto her emotions. The pendant I gave her is controlling her extreme emotions, and the horrors she endured in her family was the food Angra Mainyu preyed upon to materialize in the war. So for now, the shadow is weak because he can't connect to her, he can only keep his feeble form. But he's aiming at strengthening himself after the previous defeat that left him weak by feeding on souls. We have to stop him because he's increasing his power at an alarming rate. "

" I see. " said Saber as she donned her armor herself.

The two of them left a message on the table of the living room. Archer noticed their plans but chose to stay back and defend the masters.

The Shadow was currently feeding on yet another poor soul that made the mistake to enter this building. The atmosphere was extremely scary, on the outside it seemed like a normal building that a large number of people entered and left every day, but on the inside, the lights were blinking and the floor was cracked on many floors. The silence was heavy considering it was supposed to be a highly populated building. The eerie atmosphere was reinforced by the terrifying sound of something eating some kind of flesh that could be heard once you went high enough. Angra Mainyu wasn't only eating people's soul, he was also feeding on their flesh, trying to do his best to recover as fast as possible.

It was working. Although only temporary as long as his connection to Sakura wasn't restored, he could easily reach his previous power. After that, he planned to attack Berserker once again in an attempt to reach a level where he could fight the threatening existence, Alexander.

Although the Shadow was regaining strength, Alexander and Saber were currently on their way.
