Other Dimension's Knight

Chapter 37 - XXXVII: Sword Saint

Alexander and Arturia were both confronted with a major problem, it wasn't night. Instead, the current population in the street was at its highest, and they couldn't let the fight last long, or deal a lot of damage. It would attract unwanted attention. Normally, the church was responsible to deal with this kind of problems, but Kotomine died, and the white-haired knight didn't know if the Church was aware of his fate yet. So Alexander had no way of knowing if the Church currently held any information about the Holy Grail War.

Thankfully Angra Mainyu wasn't willing to blow this out of proportion as he was currently feeding in a building. Although he was luring a lot of people in it, it was still hidden from the public eye. In return, Alexander and Arturia couldn't use any of their mightier techniques, lest it would destroy the structure, immediately alarming the people in the surroundings and making unwanted victims at the same time.

The two warriors reached the place in no time, and soon realized Angra Mainyu's plan. The building was in the middle of the city. The most visible place of the whole town. This restricted greatly the way they fought usually and Arturia had no doubt that it would favour the enemy. Meanwhile, Alexander wasn't as concerned as the King of Knights. His strongest skill, the one he intended to use to get rid of the evil god that has been plaguing the Holy Grail for years now, wasn't one to be restricted by such trivial things. If anything, it was a skill that was made to surpass anything that could hinder his sword.

At a reasonable distance, Arturia and Alexander both made their armours disappear and were now clothed in a more suitable disguise. They couldn't just jump on the building as Arturia couldn't astralize so they had to simply enter the construction normally.

Alexander already decided against finishing the shadow from here, as he would simply cut the building in half with it. He could simply get inside and do the same job without alerting anyone. As he kept his strongest ability as a trump card, Angra Mainyu simply didn't know that his fate was sealed no matter what. The white-haired knight made the error of thinking that the last fight was enough to exterminate the Devil King, but he would not make the same mistake twice.

Angra Mainyu's boost in strength was temporary, but he was indeed stronger than before, and he didn't know that Alexander could easily spot him no matter where he was on this planet.

" Arturia, stay here I'll take care of the nuisance quickly, but there is a possibility that someone else noticed something wrong and come here, even if it is in the middle of the day. " said Alexander while they were approaching the building. Obviously, they attracted quite the attention with their looks and aura, but they still managed to reach the building easily.

Arturia wasn't exactly used to being ordered, but she still complied.

As Alexander entered the building, Angra Mainyu became aware of his presence, and simply laughed delightfully, thinking that he would be able to consume him this time and grow stronger.

But the fight did not even last a second, Alexander wasn't willing to repeat his mistake twice. If Angra Mainyu was able to recover from brute force, then he would just have to use another technique.

Compared to the sheer strength he used the first time he struck the demon king, this time he wasn't flashy, nobody could sense the strike. There was no use of mana, no world-shattering beam aimed at the sky and no overwhelming presence of strength felt all around the world, for those strong enough to recognize these kinds of presences. The Church due to Alexander's attack had already dispatched several of its units in order to undermine who or what released such an attack. The Clock Tower wasn't any slower, but since it wasn't united, the various noble families had already encountered hitches in their way in the form of conflicts between themselves.

The various powers were converging towards Fuyuki, and, Shirou excluded, no magus present in the city wasn't aware of it. They were the ones that bore the full brunt of Alexander's mana, so they were the first to act, but unfortunately, no remnants of the strike was left in the City. Whoever was the culprit vanished without a trace. But magus, because of how dangerous their lifestyle was, wouldn't be able to survive if they were stupid. The Holy Grail War already attracted the gaze of major forces in the world and was one of the many sources of conflict between the Church and the Clock Tower, it was logical that some ridiculous servant was summoned and used his noble phantasm. Obviously, even though the Holy Grail War was a major point of focus for forces that were truly beyond them, it didn't stop these rogue magus to try to reap some benefits.

Angra Mainyu was gone instantly. No trace left of him. The right word would have been 'deleted'. Alexander's sword touched him before he could go on a long villain monologue that the white-haired knight clearly didn't want to listen to, and he vanished when struck. Nobody was able to witness the sheer absurdity of what just happened, and the most insightful, those who touched the forbidden realms of existence, those aware of concepts that were omnipresent but also inevitable, only those would grasp fragments of the truth.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, in a way, not a single magus was in the area when that happened. With one swing of his sword, Alexander would have destroyed around 2 millenniums of magecraft theory.

Alexander believed deeply in the simplicity of things, but he also believed in believing. There was no 'true' way to attain greatness, no 'right' path to power, no 'proper' road to excellence. The unified theory of magecraft that advertised the Clock Tower would have been deemed misleading and downright wrong by the white-haired knight if he ever heard of it. This theory was made for the mediocre, to limit oneself while claiming to be improving. The noble families were taught to not listen to what the university was spouting, even though they were the ones deciding what was taught.

The Unified Theory of Magecraft was simply lies fed to the magus commoners in order to rein them in, and the noble families themselves didn't know how to achieve greatness. the True Magic was obtained by cheating the system, the illusion of a system that never existed in the first place.

Although he could not access to even one-tenth of the original's memory and didn't have access to his magic, Alexander's magecraft followed the rules of his swordsmanship. He didn't achieve this philosophy in life by becoming strong, he became strong by following this philosophy. The truth was simple, the path to the truth, however, was complicated.

His essence as a warrior followed these words. He worked relentlessly to achieve his level, surpassed numerous challenges, cheated death multiple times, just to reach an ideal. The dream of perfect swordsmanship. He was far from it, and he knew it, but he was going in one of the many directions that led to the truth. Cut, that was what was required of him, that was the only thing that was required from a swordsman. For one such as Alexander who believed in the simplicity of the truth, he didn't need to go much further than that. The applications of this were numerous, infinite even, but the action required was simple.

He needed to cut better than anyone else, cut faster than anyone else, strike before he was struck, he needed to cut harder than anyone else, pierce before he was pierced. Whether it was to defeat, to kill, it didn't matter. He just needed to separate with the blade of his sword. But the path was thorny and exhausting, many abandoned and most simply didn't live long enough. He needed to be able to cut through everything and anything. Nothing would stop his strike. And so what Alexander used was the culmination of such an art. Stronger, faster and deadlier than anything else, he cut Angra Mainyu. Not his body, not his soul, but what he truly was, the truth that was Angra Mainyu.

Thus was the essence of the Sword Saint.
