Outbreak Chronicles: Dead Pandemic

Chapter 353 - The Cure of the Dead (I)

Day 352: 7:05 P.M

Osaka: Blood Battalion Base

(Kyosei's View)

We are successful with the crate retrieval and we returned home after our little escapade with the dead though we also lost our lives in the process. We also have to sacrifice our car due to how the undead damaged it. Luckily, a van that we managed to repair allowed us to save our ȧsses in the process.

Right now, the van is just entering the base's door. The rain suddenly fell in the sky around 6:30 so the Night Rage was halted and our ride went smooth without any of the undead trying to bust our car down.

When we arrived, I immediately head straight to the Laboratory where Chie and Dr. Kogure are currently performing their studies to find the cure or either the vaccine to the virus. As for the other content of the crate, Mr. Tanaka was the one who handled it, allowing me to go to where I should go.

Entering the laboratory's door, the smell of different chemicals is fused and is currently wafting in the air. It isn't as pungent as the air of rotten meat but it hurts your nose, nonetheless.

The two are currently busy, Dr. Kogure currently adjusting the microscope while examining something while Chie is currently extracting something on an unknown item I can't see properly in my position.

"Looks like they are busy with their studies. However, this is something they need to see."

When Chie was finished extracting the serum of some sort from the material, she noticed me coming in.

"Kyosei, you are here. Come in. We apologize for all the clutter in here," Chie said.

"No need to be polite. I don't really mind the clutter."

"Alright. Well, why are you here? I doubt you want to come here on your own just to visit. This place is not meant for ordinary visits anyway," Chie said.

"Yes, I didn't come here without any reason. I came in just to show you guys something. Maybe Dr. Kogure would take this a fancy."

I handed her the binder that contains the study and the proper creation of what the author inside the binder called "the cure". Since I have no proper knowledge of many medicinal terms, many of the things being labeled inside the binder are quite hard for me to understand. Someone who is an expert on the field or was capable of doing it might have a better understanding of the words being said on the pages.

Even though Chie is confused, she accepted the binder and opened it. She started to skim the contents of the binder and her face was filled with shock and confusion. Once she finished checking up everything in a skim, she frowned and looked at me with a frown on her face.

"Where did you get this Kyosei?"

"I found it inside the crate that was dropped by the supply helicopters. We took it from the red zone and managed to salvage the contents which include this notebook inside. Is there something wrong with it?"

"Nothing much. However, obtaining this is just a matter of luck for us. The contents of these notes have some credibility and some of their processes are also similar to ours, however, there is some process that we have yet to perform that has been performed and recorded already by the one who created these notes. It was extremely detailed that I doubt it was a fabrication and scam info. It might have solid proof that this stuff is indeed the recipe for the cure that we are looking for."

Chie then went to Dr. Kogure and disturbed his work. The doctor didn't mind the disruption and decided to examine the binder after Chie handed it to him. .

"Are you sure you didn't make this one Chie?"

"No, Doc. These notes were handed to me by Kyosei. They managed to salvage it from the supply helicopters that drop supplies in dangerous areas. Kyosei managed to retrieve one of those crates and salvaged the items that were inside including this binder."

Doctor Kogure nodded and started to read the things inside the notebook. His eyes slowly grew wide and his expression started to change the further he reads on the binder. I don't know what is so shocking on the things he has read on the notes but I am ȧssuming this to be something ridiculous or very astounding in his perspective.

Unlike Chie who just skimmed most of it, Dr. Kogure suddenly became engrossed with the notes that instead of skimming, he started reading it and he restarted his progress, and return to the first page of the binder.

"It looks like Doctor found something. I doubt you will receive any sort of answers to your questions, Kyosei but I suggest you should go back and rest for now. Since Doctor Kogure is already examining it, he might already have an idea and some info about it."

"Alright, I understand. Tell me once he is finished and I wanted to also know if all of the contents of the binder is true or just a hoax."

"No problem."

I left the laboratory after and wondered if the things that have been discussed and explained on the binder are holding some truth and it is really telling us the main ingredients on making a cure. If we have the cure, the survival rate of everyone will drastically improve and those who are bitten can still be saved due to the cure.

Since I have finished giving the notes to the lab, I went to the HQ room and reported the matter to Nanami and Haru.

...

"Are you saying the crate that you guys managed to salvage contains notes about the creation of the cure and how to make it homemade? Are you sure you are not kidding Kyosei?" Haru asked to make sure his ears aren't just hearing things.

"Do you think I am the type of person who likes to joke around?" I raised my eyebrows.

"He has a point though. Kyosei is quite weak at doing jokes and saying one so it would be a miracle to us if he ever did," Nanami said.

"Hmm, true. Anyways, did the doctor already confirmed everything to be true?"

"Not yet. He suddenly got engrossed to it that Chie asked me to return another day since Doctor Kogure is currently in the zone right now and refuses to communicate outside as he was so engrossed by the contents of the binder that I just handed to him."

"So that means the contents inside the binder have some incredible things that caught the eye of Doctor Kogure. There might even be a chance that the cure process making that was told in the binder is also true," Nanami said.

"There is no guarantee but there is indeed a chance. Chie confirmed that some of the procedures done in the notebook are already performed by Doctor Kogure and Chie in the past and due to how detailed the details given out, Chie said that there might be the credibility of info on it."

Haru grinned and clapped his hands. "Finally, there is finally progress in the cure that we are researching for a long time. With this, we will reduce all the deaths and all the infection rates that will occur once someone from us is bitten. That way, we will be able to cure the plague that kills us all."

"We can't be too hopeful with it, Haru. Creating a cure is not that easily done and even if they ever did manage to create the cure, why would they give away the recipe of the cure to the relief boxes?" I said to him.

When I said those, Haru stopped and he scratched his head. "You have a point. What would the person give us those info gain just by giving us the recipe of the cure? Wouldn't it be better for the people giving supplies to just monopolize the cure and make a profit from it from the survivors? After all, a cure that can cure the infection is something of a guarantee to one's life after fighting the undead which caused you to receive so many bites."

Nanami shook her head. "I doubt it is fraud info. After all, Chie confirmed that it has the backbone of credibility backing it up. And look, Doctor Kogure also got interested in it. If that is the case, they must have a big reason why they decided to include the method of making it and dropping it to the survivors. Also, I think this is the main reason the supplies are dropped in the red zones.. With valuable info inside, they would make sure that those who are capable are the only people who will be able to obtain it."
