Outbreak Chronicles: Dead Pandemic

Chapter 354 - The Cure of the Dead (II)

"Does that mean, we can finally have a chance to fight back the infection from the bite? Are we going to be able to have a chance to push back the hopeless situation?" I asked.

"Although I am sure this is indeed the ingredients to create the so-called "cure", the effects are not even a sure thing to be able to cure the infection. It might even be just medicine to delay the inevitable. However, I am also hoping that this is going to be the real deal that can remove the infection. With our low understanding of the virus and how it works, a cure already established will allow us to get a big edge in fighting," Dr. Kogure pulls out the bottle of samples he put inside an icebox and shook it a little bit.

"But is it reliable? After all, it was the crate that came from the choppers. It was from the government. If our theory that the virus came from the government, is it good enough to trust this cure?"

"We needed further investigation. But first, let's create at least one cure sample. That way, if things get dire and someone gets a bite, we can at least test this if it is effective. We can even test it to another survivor and test its capabilities."

"So in short, you needed a "guinea pig" to perform this experiment?"

"Basically yes. Since we can't just deliberately get ourselves bitten then administer the cure, it is better if it wasn't intentional and occurred normally. That way, we have no regrets."

Dr. Kogure then returned the sample back to the icebox and glance at the notebook before taking it with him.

"Is it alright if I take this notebook and study the contents of it for a while? Me and my ȧssistant, Chie will try to look for any flaws that might result in some sort of malpractice in the future. We have to reduce the chances that this cure is a danger to our body."

"Sure, I have no use to it and all the science jargon on it is too much for me to understand. I might be able to understand some keywords but I am not that smart to understand the main gist of it."

"Thanks. I will let you know if I ever come into something or we managed to break a new development on it. Oh, and in return, you can take a cure that can be tested Wait here for a bit, the cure is easy to make so it won't take much of your time."

Dr. Kogure and Chie started creating the cure and just like what Dr. Kogure said, the cure was easily done. He gave me a syringe of red-colored liquid that seems to look like blood, only not as viscous as the real blood does.

After saying goodbye to the two, I went back to the HQ to report back about the cure and its progress. It was just a brief report so, in the end, I was left with nothing to do.

There are no jobs that I have to do at the moment and most of the time, it was pretty much passive in the base during the morning.

"I think I have to go scouting around and loot the nearby buildings. I can't just rely on other scavengers to do the deed of finding resources."

Day 355: 7:05 P.M

Osaka: Blood Battalion Base

(Kyosei's View)

A few days have passed by after I decided to clear out the surrounding buildings to secure the place and also to loot everything that can be used for the base. During that span of days, some of our scouts contracted a severe fever that we have to quarantine for the time being. After a few diagnoses, it revealed that they have inhaled too much of the air that was being released by a grenadier after its explosion. Since the grenadier is an undead form that explodes upon near contact or if killed, it was best done to kill it by shooting it from afar. They also usually appear only during Night Rage in the very beginning especially when we spotted grenadiers for the first time and they didn't appear during the morning. It seems things have been much different now.

Due to that, I volunteered to clear the buildings for any grenadier threat. They are not that dangerous as long as they don't explode. That is their only problem. If they explode. Other than that, they aren't even lethal in combat.

... .

Today marks the last day of my clearing operation. Looking at the map that I made on what buildings I should clear and loot. I finally arrived at the last building. Compared to the other buildings I cleared out, for some unknown reason, this place is emitting a very bad smell of rot. It isn't similar to the usual smell of a rotten corpse that is now an everyday smell around the streets but something stronger and much more headache-inducing smell. Just by sniffing it will make you feel like you are about to puke. Those people who have are not used to the rotten smell of the dead people rotting on the streets will not be able to hang around here for too long.

I wear the gas mask that I acquired in a military cache not too far from here. It was one of the masks that I looted that serves as something I can use especially if I needed to cover my nose and face to do it. Having only a face mask is not enough to block the putrid smell.

Entering the building, I didn't expect to see a fleshy mess around the place. It was similar to the thing that I saw when I was looting the random shop one time. However, this time, it has been a mass fleshy place that I thought the interior is made from the flesh itself.

"What in the f*ck are these? Does this abomination created by that virus alone?!"
