Reborn Into Pokémon With An Odd System

The next morning he was woken up by something that kept bumping the side of his head. When Max opened his eyes he was greeted by the hairy, blue head of Deino. "Sup buddy, you ready for a morning run?"

The pokémon stood on its hind legs and yelled "DEINO, DEINO". Max quickly used both his hands to shut the pokémon up "Shhhhh, the others are asleep."

He got up and began yawning as he stretched and walked towards his bag and grabbed his weighted shirt. Once he put it on he walked to the door and opened it, allowing him to feel the comfortable breeze on his face.

As soon as he opened it Deino, who was behind him, ran outside nearly crashing into him. He shook his head and thought "This pokémon is seriously a handful haha". They began running around camp for nearly two hours. Max was impressed by the stamina that the Deino showed, he also enjoyed the company of the small pokémon.

By the time that they finished the people from the camp were heading to the cafeteria. When he entered he once again found his 3 friends with Serena. He began walking their way but as soon as she saw him Serena put her head down. With a sigh he turned around and headed outside while he thought "Don't worry about it, when the battle is over I'll talk to her again even if she doesn't want me to."

He sat back down in the rock that he had found the day prior and began eating. When he and Deino had finished he headed back to the cafeteria to give back the tray and bowl and then made his way towards the pokémon arena behind the lab.

When he arrived he found Cynthia and her Gible in the middle of the arena. They greeted each other with a smile, "Morning Max you ready for your first attempt?"

He scratched his head nervously and nodded "As ready as I can be hehe, I'm honestly pretty excited this is the first time that I'm actually going to have a Pokémon battle."

Cynthia looked at him and giggled "Well then I'm honored to be your first battling partner, but don't expect that I'm going to go easy on you."

Max smiled and shook his head "I'm glad, I want to show you that I can be a capable trainer who is strong enough to be by your side."

She gave him a mischievous look "You really are smart with your words aren't you. Well anyway, let's get started."

They gave each other a short nod and began to take their place at opposite ends. Since both their pokémon were already out, Deino and Gible stood In the center of their side of the field. Max and Cynthia looked at each other to see who was going to be the first one to attack.

The tall blonde haired girl looked at him and smiled "Well since this is your first battle how about you start it?"

He looked at her and nodded, he didn't know what attacks Gible was able to use other than Dragon Rage which he had seen him use the other day. He wanted to see if he could fish out some of the moves that she had so he decided to tweak their plans a bit. He looked at the small blue and hairy Pokémon in front of him and yelled out "Deino trust me, and remember our training."

The pokémon turned its head and nodded "DEINO, DEINO".

Max gave him a thumbs up and they prepared "Deino use Dragon Rage!"

The hairy pokémon quickly opened its mouth and spit out a ray of purple light that transformed into a head of a dragon that made its way in the air towards Gible.

Cynthia gave him a slight smile before she called out to the small land shark pokémon "Gible you use Dragon Rage as well, show them what true power is."

"GIBLE, GIBLE", he opened his mouth, and out came a blinding blue light in the shape of a dragon that soared through the air directly in front of the purple dragon that Deino had released. As soon the two collided a huge explosion appeared filling the air with smoke.

He couldn't see anything through it but suddenly he heard Cynthia yell out "Use Rock Smash"

Max tried scanning through the smoke to see where the pokémon were but he couldn't see a thing. He sighed and yelled, "Deino you're used to navigating while being blind use that and hit Gible with Dragon Breath."

As soon as he finished his sentence a flash of blue light appeared and began to move around. Thanks to the light Max could see the silhouettes of the pokémon.

From across the field, he heard Cynthia, "Use dig!".

Max quickly began to get nervous, dig was one of the moves that were hard to counter, if one had a big enough pokemon then they could smash the ground but with Deino it was difficult. He gave out a whistle and hoped that Deino was going to understand "Try to feel the vibrations and pinpoint where Gible will come out of."

After a few seconds later the small shark pokémon jumped from the ground on Deino's 6 and began to prepare a Dragon Rage. What Gible didn't expect was that Deino was ready for it, as soon as Gible appeared the hairy, blue pokémon did a 180-degree turn and opened its mouth and released a Dragon Breath.

While Gible was underground the whistle that Max gave let Deino know to use Dragon Breath, the rest of the message was given vocally. Fortunately, the hairy pokémon was able to connect both the orders and performed them perfectly.

The attack hit Gibble straight in the face, the poor pokémon was sent flying in the air about 5 feet in Max's direction. It stayed laying down for a few seconds but then slowly began to stand up, Max was really tempted to keep hitting him with attacks but stopped himself when he began to think about what kind of reaction he would get from Cynthia.

After the small pokémon stood up it used dig and made its way back to its side. By now the smoke had cleared away and he could see that they had attracted quite the audience. They were all standing at the side of Vlad's Lab as they tried watching the battle.

He looked at Cynthia who had a wide smile on her face "You sure that this is your first battle? Seems like you and Deino understand each other well. Now it looks like it's time to get serious."

Max gave her a smirk with a raised brow, "You mean that you hadn't gone all out already?"

She shook her head and pointed at Deino, "Gible give us a shower of Draco Meteors"

The baby shark pokémon looked at the sky and a red light began to radiate from its stomach, it opened its mouth and a fireball looking object was ejected into the sky. Max looked at it with interest suddenly after it was about 50ft in the air the fireball split and a rain of fire began to appear heading back to land and directly above Deino.

Max quickly pointed towards Gible, "Deino quickly run towards him", as he spoke he saw the small land shark begin to recharge the attack. "While you run at him try to fire some Dragon Rages" the hairy pokémon quickly did as he was told and began to go after Gible but he wasn't fast enough. The meteor shower began to fall on the ground forming little explosions.

Before long Deino had to give it all he had to dodge the attacks but he wasn't fast enough. From time to time Deino would be hit by one of the small projectiles which made him slow down drastically. When the blue pokémon was finally close enough to Gible and out of range Max was about to ask it to use tackle but suddenly his right sleeve was pulled hard getting his attention.

When he turned around he found a small blonde girl wearing pink, she was looking at him with an angry expression. "Max is it true what Ash told me, are you really battling that girl so that she can be your girlfriend."

He looked at her and tried to form words but they wouldn't come out, all he could think of at the moment was "Ash what the hell man, I should have known not to tell that hollow head of yours. Now, what the hell am I supposed to say."

As he looked at the young girl's head suddenly he heard a feminine yell from the opposite side "Max watch out!". As he turned around he saw a green sphere of light heading towards Serena, he quickly jumped and pushed her out of the way.

Thankfully she was saved from getting hit but he, on the other hand, was sent flying and crashing into the ground. The impact with the ball didn't cause him any injury, what did was the force of hitting the ground after the ball of light exploded. The actual attack felt like a balloon that hit him. What did suck was the wind pressure that seemed to be trapped in it and released when it popped, since he was in the air when it occurred the brunt of the force was sent to him.

The momentum of his body sent him rolling on the ground when it finally stopped Max had his face on the grass. He rolled around and was able to see the sky and the blurry outline of the girl he had just saved. Not much longer and he saw the big hairy head of Deino. Then the tall blonde girl that he was battling against. Suddenly his vision began to get darker and his body colder until all he could see and feel was nothing.

After an unknown amount of time he began to feel the pain in his body, he slowly opened his eyes and found himself in the infirmary of the camp. He painfully got up and found Deino sleeping on the floor next to the bed. He leaned closer and began to pet the head of the blue pokémon, suddenly Deino lifted his head and bit Max's leg. He gave out a small scream and began laughing "seriously I thought that we were already past that."

After a few seconds the door opened up and Professor Vlad, Oak, and Ash walked in. When Oak saw Max up he gave a smile and began to dig into his lab coat pockets. He brought out 3 letters and gave it to him when Max took the letters he could see a different name on each of them. They were labeled Cynthia, Serena, and Jackie. He didn't know who the last person was but at the moment he didn't care.

Max looked at Professor Oak and asked: "Where are they?".

Oak shook his head and sighed "Everyone from the camp left about 4 hours ago, those three girls really didn't want to leave but they had no other choice."

Max closed his eyes and took a deep breath and looked at the letters in his hands. He felt Deino rub it's head on his legs. He slowly crouched and began petting the small pokémon, turned to Vlad, and gave him a questioning look.

Vlad looked at Deino and then at Max "He didn't want to leave you, it kept coming out of his pokéball whenever Cynthia tried calling him back. She decided to hand him to you since she said that she had never seen him act like that."

Max smiled and patted Deion's head "It looks like it's you and me haha."

Vlad gave him Deion's pokéball and together the five of them began walking towards Oaks' car. They already had Max's things packed and in the trunk. He turned around and looked at Deion "I'm going to need you to go inside your pokéball. I can bring you out when I get home okay.

"DEINO, DEINO" he raised his body on his hind legs as he was sent back to his pokéball. Max smiled at him and put him in his pocket and got in the car. They said their goodbyes to Vlad and began driving back home.

After an hour and a half they arrived back at Pallet Town, they dropped off Ash in his front door. The kid looked at Max, handed him 2 letters and smiled "These are from Jack and Jake, they were pretty bummed out that they couldn't say goodbye so they told me to deliver them to you."

Max reached out and took the letters and smiled at the spiky-haired kid "Cya around Ash".

The kid nodded and waved at them as Max and Professor Oak drove away. The next stop was Max's house, this time the professor got out of his car and helped Max with his things. They knocked on the door and his parents immediately opened it and hugged him tightly.

After some giving his family some explanations of what happened at the camp Oak left his house and went to his lab, leaving Max alone as his parents interrogated him. He ended up promising them that he would tell them everything the next day.

His parents hesitated but agreed that he should get some rest, once he was in his room he brought out Deino. The small pokémon began walking around the room biting certain objects, Max smiled and laid a blanket on the floor with a pillow "This is where you're going to sleep."

"DEINO, DEINO" the hairy pokémon quickly laid on his sleeping area and yawned. Meanwhile, Max laid on his bed and began to use heal on his body. Slowly he began to fall asleep, after an unknown amount of time he felt a pat on his right arm. When he opened his eyes Max saw a young man with red eyes and blue hair smiling at him. Max gave him a slight smile in return, "How your week go Lance?"
