RBS Chapter 4.2: Rejecting Confession (4)

When he didn’t make the Olympiad team in First High School, Bai Song went home and created a big fuss, pressuring his parents to approach First High and allow him into the team, but the school held firm and didn’t make an exception.

Until the real and fake young master incident in the Bai family occurred, and that imposter was unconscious with a high fever in B City. Bai Song finally felt vindicated.

Let’s see how he could take part in the competition.

But now, that imposter actually gained direct admission into T University.

Bai Song was pale with defeat.

The people surrounding him no longer spared him another glance.

Only Yi Zhongshen standing not too far away at the main door suddenly raised his eyes and took a good look at Bai Song.

Bai Song had dreamed of getting Yi Zhongshen’s attention, but in his current confused state of mind, he didn’t notice it at all.

The rest of the guests were still in lively discussions about the direct admission into T University. The guests tonight were mostly around Bai Gelei’s age. They were all parents, and this was the period when they were most interested in their child’s studies.

Besides their admiration for T University, their discussion also included awe for Bo Xiyun.

There had been a lot of interest in the Bai family saga recently, to the point where the entire city was aware. The guests could not believe that under this situation, Bo Xiyun could still take part in the competition normally and achieve such good results.

He was only seventeen. He was still considered a child in many people’s eyes, yet he was already able to bear such a large pressure.

This mentality was even more valuable than Bo Xiyun’s ability to enroll at T University.

With regard to the real and fake young master incident, the guests here were all fully aware of the events, which resulted in them being full of respect for Bo Xiyun.

But the same news had a totally different meaning in Bai Gelei’s ears.

“Look for Madam, let her go upstairs and help look for the documents.”

Bai Gelei was still very polite to Yi Zhongshen. He heard his words and immediately sent someone to assist.

He paused and asked.

“Is Young Master Yi here on behalf of T University?”

It was not that he didn’t feel the protection that Young Master Yi was giving Bo Xiyun, but regardless of the opinion of others, Bai Gelei only saw Bo Xiyun as a humiliation to him.

The son he had just found, was the one who had inherited his genes, and his studies were also excellent.

Looking at the time, his son should have finished changing into formal wear. Bei Gelei started speaking again, intentionally shifting the topic of the conversation toward his son.

“This is just a small matter, and Young Master Yi, it’s not worth your time to make this trip personally. Oddly, our family’s Xiao Xiu also managed to get an opportunity to compete in the Olympiad–”

What Bai Gelei didn’t expect was that his words would be interrupted again.

“Who says it’s not worth the time to make this trip?”

Slightly ajar, the carved wooden door was pushed open again and another handsome young man walked in.

His voice was gentle like music to the ears.

“His results are ranked fourth nationally. Not only Zhongshen is making this trip here, but universities that are within this province are also getting their teachers in the admissions department to make this trip.”

When they saw who was at the door, they were all shocked.

“Young, Young Master Gu?”

What was this special day? It was normally so hard to meet members of these two families but now they both each had a representative here?

In Q City, the Gu family’s reputation and status were very high, sometimes even higher than the Yi family.

After all, the Gu family’s riches have been in the family for 3 generations past, a real aristocratic family.

Compared to the up-and-rising Mr. Yi in Q city, the Gu family only had a branch of the main family from B City who settled in Q City. Their main influence was still back in B City, and now, that branch had already moved back to B City.

But still, nobody dared to look down on the members of the Gu family in Q City.

Even the banquet host, the Bai family, was supported by the younger Mr. Gu resulting in their place today.

Thus, Bai Gelei was even more polite towards Young Master Gu, “What is the purpose of your visit today?”

“Some small matters,” Gu Sheng said. Compared to the icy cold Young Master Yi, he was much milder when he spoke. “I should have arrived earlier but there was a traffic jam on the way.”

After their shock at seeing Gu Sheng wore off, the guests’ intentions started to get active.

Compared to Young Master Yi, Second Young Master Gu was a lot more approachable. The Gu family had moved back to B City for quite some time now and it was hard to keep in touch with them, today was a rare chance to do so.

Although they were unsure of the purpose of Second Young Master Gu’s arrival, just being able to chat with him would be an advantage for sure.

The guests had not started making their moves when they heard the question Gu Sheng posed to Yi Zhongshen.

“Have the documents been collected?”

Documents?

Piecing that together with what Gu Sheng had said earlier when he just stepped in, the guests’ expressions all changed.

Why was it that Young Master Gu had just arrived, and what concerned him was also the matter of this “imposter”?

“Collecting them upstairs right now.”

Hearing this question, Bai Gelei explained immediately and asked further.

“Is there anything I can do to help Young Master Gu?”

Gu Sheng said instead, “No hurry.”

“Let’s resolve the problems with the documentation first, if not the teachers will all be jumping up and down.”

The topic of conversation came back to Bo Xiyun and Bai Gelei gave an imperceptible frown.

He wanted to change the topic so he invited Gu Sheng into the VIP room, hoping that Young Master Yi would also move there.

But Gu Sheng, seeing that Yi Zhongshen wanted to wait by the main door, didn’t move away, and instead stood next to the main door with him, almost causing a cold sweat to break out on Bai Gelei.

So far when Gu Sheng spoke, his words were all about the Olympiad and about direct admission into the university.

The guests were interested in this topic of school and studies and were all praising what they had heard, but Bai Gelei didn’t want to hear another word.

If he remembered correctly, Gu Sheng was the same age as Yi Zhongshen, but he was currently studying at P university, another top two university, and wasn’t an undergraduate at T university.

Bai Gelei tactfully opened his mouth, wanting to change the topic, “I had no idea that Young Master Gu was aware of the happenings in T University. Both of you can relax, the problem with documentation will be resolved properly……”

But he had forgotten, Gu Sheng was very good at picking out key phrases in conversations.

“Happenings in T University?”

Gu Sheng gave a puzzled face.

“This shouldn’t be the same. This confirmation of identity is part of the Olympiad’s procedure and not a confirmation for direct admission into T University.”

He added, “Being placed fourth nationally, the universities that want him to enroll in their campus should be more than just T University.”

Before Bai Gelei could react, the guests had explosive reactions first.

“Not only T University?”

“Other universities will also issue direct admission invitations?”

Before, everyone was shocked about the direct admission into T University. After all, this was many people's dream university.

But now, they were given the news.

T University had to depend on snatching in order to get Bo Xiyun to enroll.

With this information, the crowd immediately thought of P University which the second Young Master Gu was enrolled in, and connected it to his rare presence today. What exactly was the purpose……

Oh my god–

The guests were all frozen in shock.

Could it be that T University and P University were all in a race to get Bo Xiyun to enroll with them?

This conjecture may be shocking, but in their discussions, they felt that it sounded more and more reasonable. Just at this point, Bo Xiyun came back downstairs, having collected his documents. The crowd didn’t have time to ask more questions, but the gazes they placed on Bo Xiyun already contained near worship and respect.

Bo Xiyun felt baffled.

He seemed to be……seen as a koi fish again?

Even after Bo Xiyun and Yi Zhongshen left the banquet hall, the topic of conversation was still all about them. Even Gu Sheng, who was still around, didn’t get as much attention.

From what had transpired, no one felt Gu Sheng was here because of the Bai family banquet—Bai Gelei could also sense the shift in the guests’ attitude but it was too late to remedy it.

The real Young Master Bai was tall and outstanding with handsome features. Bai Gelei should indeed be proud of this young man. However, even when this real young master who had just returned to the Bai family entered the banquet hall in his formal attire, his arrival didn’t cause much of a ripple.

The guests celebrated his return politely, but they no longer had feelings of surprise and awe.

That night, instead of the real young master of the Bai family, another person stole the show unexpectedly. The exquisitely prepared banquet became the backdrop to highlight another legend.

  *

Bo Xiyun, holding the bag of documents, left the banquet hall with Yi Zhongshen under the eyes of everyone

The rain had stopped outside but the night wind was still very cold. As the wind blew, Bo Xiyun reached out his hands to cover his ears which had started to hurt in the biting cold and heard Yi Zhongshen’s low voice.

“Wait for me on the porch.”

Bo Xiyun lifted his head and saw Yi Zhongshen’s back, walking quickly towards the west.

Although he was still in a bit of a daze when he got out of the car, he could still remember that direction was towards the parking lot.

“Young Master Yi!”
