Soul Land: The Savage Star

Chapter 24 - 24: Summit (2/2)

With a bright golden aura surrounding his body, Feng appeared in front of Tang San with such speed that he couldn't respond in time before he got punched. In fact, he faintly perceived Feng's movement but the speed was too much for his body to follow. Instead, his spider legs did, blocking the blow, at the price of five of them cracking.

But Feng didn't stop there, he went for Xiao Wu next. He also punched her and unfortunately for her, she didn't have Tang San's perception or external spirit bones, so she got blown away, only to be caught by Tang San's grass rope. Of course, Feng didn't put much power in this blow, after all, he didn't want to harm Tang San's sister.

So, she only coughed some blood but was able to stand up. Her toughness was high as he was sure he punched hard enough to knock her out. But this didn't matter. Now is not the time to think about this. His time is limited and he had to finish the match fast.

So he once again leaped at his opponents but as he punched, the pink barrier that was able to nullify his blow earlier appeared on Xiao Wu's body, though, her face was pale. Knowing that he wouldn't be able to do anything to her, he ignored her as he went for Tang San again. On the other hand, Tang San took out something from his spatial belt and threw it at him.

It was a bunch of needles, that weren't able to penetrate his skin, but it seemed like they were not intended to do so as they exploded on contact, making Feng take a step back. This was enough for Tang San to yank Xiao Wu toward him and throw her at Beibei, who was seriously observing the short exchange while thinking about what he could do to help.

When Xiao Wu appeared in front of him, he slashed at her without activating his rings' abilities... and as he thought, she teleported behind him, ready to use a weird energy-filled pink rabbit on him, which he slashed with his claw. The rabbit seemed to be made to explode and repel as he was pushed back a few meters.

But while he was pushed back, he used his second ring's ability to create an ice path in front of him as he moved back and when he regained his foothold, he immediately slid on his ice path and while making his claws scratch it from his side and when he was in front of her again, he violently lifted them, making claw-shaped ice arcs that took Xiao Wu by surprise. They froze wherever and whatever they touched while lightly cutting her, making the ice spread from inside her body as well. This move is one he came up with, making his close combat abilities gain a bit of range. He called it ascending ice poison claw extended.

This was enough to paralyze her and he just pushed her outside the arena grounds, as he skillfully led her at the border during their exchange.

Meanwhile, with nothing to protect him, Tang San wasn't able to respond to Feng's blows. He still didn't take a single one directly, but his spider legs, or as he called them spider lances were gone. Seeing that Xiao Wu was dealt with, he was about to forfeit as he couldn't do anything else. Feng's skin was simply too thick for any of his 'unconventional' attacks to be effective and he was too heavy and strong for his blue silver grass to do anything as well.

But, for some reason, Feng backed away and instead let Beibei face him. He was confused but soon smiled as he got ready to fight again.

The battle was lost, he knew it and now, it was only a more serious spar than normal that will take place. Feng was simply his perfect counter while he himself was Beibei's.

Letting out a light shout, Beibei slashed Tang San with his left claw while the right one was building up energy. As expected, his slash was expertly dodged, then countered needles flying his way. Knowing that contrarily to Feng, he would suffer from them should they near him, he released his right claw's built up energy while activating his second ring, freezing them all in the air and sending them back to Tang San.

Not losing his smile for a second, Tang San caught them all with his blue silver grass, but sensing something weird, he used his grass to quickly wrap around them. As he did this, the needles exploded, but not from the original mini-explosives he put in them, but from the tiny ice fragments covering them.

Now he was even more impressed by Beibei. Not only was he a genius in combat sense, he was able to not only replicate but make his a trick that he only briefly saw from afar. A great talent indeed.

The battle was still not finished though as Beibei leaped towards him again, this time, kicking him. It was an unexpected and brilliant move as it took Tang San off guard, making him skid back a few meters and destabilizing him. Then, infusing his claws in ice, he swung and the ice encasing his claws flew at Tang San in the form of ten thick needles. They were caught by Tang San's blue silver grass though. So, even though they exploded like Tang San's original needles, they didn't damage his opponent.

But the area around Tang San was now almost entirely covered in ice, from which Beibei used his ascending ice poison claw extended multiple times. This would have finished the fight if not for a sudden needle that fell from the sky and landed on Beibei's shoulder. The poison in it quickly paralyzed him while Tang San jumped high in the sky then wrapped a grass rope around Beibei and yanked him, then kicked him out of the arena grounds.

This whole process made Feng, who was grimly observing the fight sweatdrop. While his brother expertly did what control type spirit masters had a hard time doing, which was thinking a few exchanges in advance, Tang San saw even farther and responded in kind. Compared to them, he was... a simpleton. A highly effective and tough simpleton but still a simpleton. The way they fought, using everything they had and their environment to their advantage was magnificent to watch as they reeked of genius.

On the other hand, while his techniques were nothing to scoff at, they were just slightly different from just brutally beating others.

As he thought of this, Tang San forfeited the match, to everyone's surprise. Then, he fell to the ground with a good half of his body suffering from frostbite. A short silence ensued before the crowd loudly cheered for both teams after the judge announced the winner.

Gnashing his teeth, Feng reflected on his fighting style more and more but dropped the matter shortly after. It seemed like even though he never thought so, he had grown slightly complacent. Not at the level of overly relying on his strength, but still complacent.

Under the cheering of the crowd, he spent the last bits of his spirit power on healing his brother and opponents, before carrying them to Grandmaster's lounge.

It seemed like training was a never-ending spiral of improving and finding weaknesses.

It was a good thing that he found this out this early though.
