Systems And Makers

Chapter 5 - Concepts and Innovations

Reaching such a godlike Game Developer rank should be theoretically possible with the Game Creation System. If not, then it is not an effective system in the first place, and therefore, I should not be wasting my precious time on it.

Period.

I am tasked with creating tutorials for those who would come after me and the others, helping newbies in reaching Zenith in any possible way that they can. Sort of. And becoming a godlike Game Developer is not something that would help anyone achieve that goal, at least not directly.

It is not like the Game Creation System is training them to be powerful Necromancer or Swordmaster or World Devourers or the likes, but it does help me understand how to create those kinds of systems in the future.

There is also a possibility that I would upgrade the Game Creation System to Reality Manipulator later down the line, but that might be way too overpowering for newbies to have. No one should have that kind of power in the first place unless they have managed to obtain such power as the direct result of their so-called efforts, bloods, sweats and sacrifices.

Just like I have done so a long time ago.

Thinking about it now really takes me back, and I cannot help but becoming depressed at the memory, recalling everyone and everything that I have failed in one way or another. The people that I loved and cared so much about no longer exists anywhere but within my memory.

And while I do have the power to create them from my memory, I would know that they are not really the same people that I have loved and lost. I would only be deluding myself.

In any case, I should focus on the task at hand and stop reminiscing about the past. Trying to live within the past would never lead to anything good, especially when I cannot allow myself to die. If I do, those that I loved would truly be dead.

Destiny is what I make of it, but I have to walk that path alone. Always alone.

Sigh.

In order to test the Game Creation System properly and get accurate data, I cannot resort to my cosmic powers and abilities. Any of my powers and abilities, cosmic or not.

And I do have a lot of powers and abilities, not counting the ones that Desora has granted me by using my soulscape as his personal shelter. While I can feel his essence somewhere inside, his consciousness is actually elsewhere at the moment.

Desora might be with the other Primordial, discussing things. Things that I am not allowed to know. It is not like that I want to know either. Unless it concerns me.

But I am insignificant to them in the long run, and I am only here because I have passed whatever they had in mind. The others as well.

In any case, Desora is being secretive lately, and I think it is probably better that way. Without Desora hovering over my head, I am more productive. I do not like him taking jabs at everything that I do. All the actions that I have taken and would have taken.

Taking a seat in front of the laptop, I finally have a good look at the game that I was working on until my untimely death.

But death is not the end. It is merely part of the journey.

Unless the soul is no longer there, of course, and that particular soul is no longer there. It is now a part of me as it should be. I will seek out every fragment of myself throughout the multiverse. There seems to be many.

Infinitely?

Anyway, the game that I was working on is a virtual reality game despite there is no virtual gear within sight. I do not have the money to afford it, and it is not really needed to develop a virtual game, at least in this world.

This world is technologically more advanced than the world that I know, at least in some areas. This is obvious from my high-tech phone. It is all screen and more screens thanks to the holographic displays it is sporting.

Oh. There is also a keyboard in between if I flip it open, allowing it to act like a miniature computer. It dawns on me that I should have put the Game Creation System into the phone instead of the laptop.

Actually, I am still thinking inside the box. It should be on every computer that the user touches, but I think that might cause a problem in the future. In any case, I connect my phone to my laptop, allowing the Game Creation System to initialize on both.

I have a play with the phone for an hour afterwards, and I can say for sure that I would definitely trade it for a proper iPhone or Android Phone. Instantly too. Why? Well. Better technology does not actually mean better user experience.

And the user experience sucks ball.

Honestly, why the hell do I need to go through a dozen screens to adjust my wallpaper? Or why are there so many buttons crowding on the screen with useless tooltips.

This is usually what happen when technology evolves too quickly, far too quickly for people truly learn and appreciate what available, discovering what works and what does not work.

Unleashing what they have in their brain. Imagination and creativity.

While I was not a hardcore gamer myself when I was mortal, I did enjoy video games, at least all before I have to jump from one reality to the next, chasing after or hunting down the others, never truly stop to enjoy what those realities have to offer.

Oh. I am thinking about that again. Stop it! Please focus on the task, William.

Focus.

I take a long breather before checking the application stores on the phone. There are several available on the phone already, and they are not unlike Google Play or App Store.

Since this is not Earth, Google Play and App Store do not exist. Likewise, none of the technology giants that I know exist either. They have all been replaced with something else. Someone else.

It is another world after all, so I do not need to think too much about it.

My goal is do my job and then figure out how to make the others permanently dead.

There are free and paid games for me to download or purchase in the online stores. Free games are obviously free, but most are supported by advertis.e.m.e.nts. Paid games are games that I have to pay to download, and they usually range anywhere from a buck to ten bucks.

And the games available within the free and paid tabs alone make me frown.

What about monthly subscription games? Freemium? Not only that, the genres and types are severely lacking in a lot of area, at least from my point of view.

It is as if the gamers of this world only love a few types of games, thus the Game Developers constantly pumping out those same games over and over again.

But then again, everyone wants to play on their holographic projectors and virtual simulators instead of their personal computer or phone.

While it is quite awesome to know what holographic technology can do, I have never really invested myself in virtual reality gaming when I was a mortal.

Why bother with all the virtual stuff when I can experience the same stuff in the real world? Oh. I am going off topic again. Well. Not really.

The point that I am trying to make here is that this world is incredibly backwards in game concepts as well as innovations, not like Earth where technological progress is much slower, thus allowing people to make do with what they have and use their brain to create countless of interesting and thought-provoking games.

Games that are suitable for people of all ages.

While there are plenty of games for me to download to my phone or my laptop, most of them are just clones from the one that I had just played with different graphics and sounds. Any real game developer from Earth can tell me that better graphics and sounds do not make good games.

It certainly does not make a game worth playing for an extended period of time, and what is with the popular games on the list? They are all variation of role-playing games, but I guess this is due to nature of virtual reality.

Virtual reality can be used to create strategy games, but it is not really a platform of choice for such a game, at least not with some incredible innovations, which this world severely lacking in.

While I can jump worlds and find a world that is more suitable for me to test and stress the limit of my Game Creation System, it probably will not make much of a difference in the long run, and I rather show the game developers of this world what games are truly about.

But before all of that, I should play a bit more free games to understand the whole game concept that exist within this world. I do not have money to pay for premium game. Actually, creating money from nothing to learn game designs should not affect the normal progression of becoming a God of Game Design.

Or would it? I am unsure, and if I open that door, I think I will start cheating. Better not then.

Besides, there are plenty of free games available. More so than premium, obviously.

After spending the whole night playing games, I decide to scrap the idea of developing a virtual reality game to showcase my company in the upcoming competition. For one, it will be quite restrictive. For two, I am more of a casual gamer than actual hardcore gamer, and the Game Creation System should reflect the preference of the user.

Now. What casual game should I create? It should not be something exceedingly complicated as I only have like two days left until the deadline. Two days for me to program the game normally not through my power, which would take a second. Less than a second.

The game should be addicting as well, just so people cannot put it down. Even if they did, they should not forget about it. Somehow, a stupid bird appears in my mind.

I recall being extremely frustrated at how f.u.c.k.i.n.g crappy the game was, but even so, I could not put it down, opting to get that one more point.

Ah. Flappy Bird. Looks like you will be pissing off a lot of people in this world.
